Fun fact: Most of the actors were randomly picked out of ordinary people from the ghetto (especially the kids), and that's what made the cast so realistic, as well as the acting, since they didn't need to emulate any suburban accent or slang. Afterwards, the movie would become so popular, some of these actors would get called to cast on many other productions. Douglas Silva (actor for Lil Dice) being the biggest example, starring in many other movies and so, getting the chance to leave the ghetto as well as becoming a big brazilian celebrity nowadays! 😊

This film was revolutionary. It inspired filmmakers and videographers. It’s even inspired by comics! A Joker comic with scripts by Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets) and drawings by Lee Bermejo features the Clown Kingpin replicating Dadinho's classic pose in the film, with gun in hand. Steven Spielberg wanted to know what technology director Fernando Meirelles used in the chicken scene. Meirelles told the truth: he simply tied the camera to a simple broom with masking tape and recorded it running after the chicken

The movie is based on the book "City of God", by the historian and university professor Paulo Lins (that was raised in the neighboorhod of "Cidade de Deus" (City of God)). Most of the characters and events actually existed and happened

Brasiiiil 🇧🇷 One of our masterpieces, the technicalities are still studied in movie schools. Very unpleasant story and unfortunately still very real here, but tame actually 😕 I highly recommend Central Station too, Fernanda Montenegro was nominated for best actress (rigged Oscars 😡) and the movie for best international picture (Life is beautiful got it though).

This movie is amazing! In the video you mentioned the high quality of the children's acting. Much of the cast was made of people who were real residents of the favela. They received acting lessons from the legendary casting coach Fátima Toledo, she is a specialist in this type of work and has worked on more than 70 movies including the spectacular movie "Pixote". She developed her own method for preparing the cast of ordinary people. For this reason the acting was so realistic.

Outra coisa interessante é sobre aquela criança que levou o tiro no pé. Se não me engano ela ficou afastada do elenco adulto até o momento do filmagem para que não criassem amizade. Então o choro devido a tensão da cena era real.

By the way, as a palate-cleanser, the same directors created a mini-series called "city of men" which even include some of the same actors - same setting, except it is set in early 2000s, and is more of an anthology - telling little separate day-to-day stories, each with some sort of satisfying twist or turn, as well as having a much more optimistic mood, the dark crime world more of a backdrop, one that only rarely looms - a more hopeful and humorous approach.

Two very good brazilian movies that I recommend you react to are Brazil Station (Central do Brasil) and Elite Squad (Elite Squad), I'm sure you'll like it^^

The movie is nice. But why people don’t recommend A Dog’s Will (O Auto da Compadecida). Another Brazilian hit but this one don’t focus on the big cities and the favelas. It’s a nice movie to understand how big and diverse Brazil actually is.

Watch the series Invisible City / Cidade Invisível, it's a mystery and fantasy series, about brazilian folklore. Unfortunately after 2 seasons netflix canceled the series... but it's still worth checking out.

I dont like this movie ( personally ) . Its unreal.....Much stronger to impress who lived out of Brazil. Yes, Rio is a violent city....theres poverty etc. But the movie is full of inconsistences. Its dangerous to go to some favelas if you dont live there. City of God its a name of a real place........
