The actor that played Argyle is a cool guy in real life too. He gave up his movie career to become a drug counselor and help addicts get their lives back together.

Roy Rogers was a tv cowboy who, with wife Dale Evans had a weekly show from the early fifties to the mid seventies. He had a Palimino horse named trigger and a German Shepard named Bullet. One of the most famous sayings was yippy kai yai. At the end of every show he and Dale Evans would sing their signature song " Happy Trails". He is an American icon.

"Yippee ki-yay" is probably a variation of "yippie yi yo kayah" from the vintage song "I'm an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande)." Popularized by Bing Crosby, it was also performed by many others including Roy Rogers in his film King of the Cowboys (1943). I couldn't find an example of him speaking "yippee ki-yay" to anyone, especially on his TV show (although I can't rule it out). "Happy Trails" (as in "Happy Trails, Hans") was, as you say, Roy's farewell tune sung at the end of each TV ep. It was written by Dale Evans.

Interesting fact is that even though Rickman by that time had appeared on stage and on television as guest in British shows for a decade, this was his first role on the big screen. Made him (rightfully so) a big star.

15:40 "I don' tknow who Roy Rogers is." He's a very famous actor from the very early days of Hollywood. He mostly made Westerns and in those days, musicals were extremely popular so even cowboys would have lots of singing. Roy Rogers wore fancy shirts decorated with sequins and seemed to always have a guitar, ready to sing cowboy songs as he rode across the plains. He, and other "cowboys" of the Golden age of Hollywood popularized "Yippie Ki Yay" as something they might shout at a herd of cattle to keep them moving. John McClane found another use for it...

Everybody these days seems to think that a stick of C4 would be enough to bring down an entire skyscraper. It most certainly is not. That's why skyscrapers aren't being brought down by random psychpaths every day of the week. Bear in mind, at 9/11 it took a whole jumbojet to crash into and blow up in each of those buildings to bring them down, and even they remained upright for over an hour. And "Die hard" takes place in LA, where buildings are made to withstand whole earthquakes.

It's more a Christmas movie than Home Alone in my opinion. All family members treated Kevin like dirt. They left him home alone, although not on purpose. But even after knowing, the older brother wasn't even worried. This movie however was a about a man man hoping to get back together with his wife wife and children with a detour, the events from this movie. This is more a true Christmas movie than Home Alone. The second one too. Just look at the behavior of the family at Christmas.

27:50 "I don't understand what the news reporter was trying to do." He was trying to capture the hearts and minds of his viewers, to tell a compelling story about a mother and father struggling to survive while their kids wait at home, perhaps never to speak to thei rparents again. Adding the kids to the story makes it 100x more sad, which makes it great news. At least, that is what he's telling himself. To me it just looks ghoulish. That said, we've seen it countless times in real life where some hostage or active-shooter situation makes the news and the real TV journalists always put victims' families on the air.

It’s funny to think that Bruce Willis went from essentially rom coms to doing this, which worked in his favor, because he had a lot more personality than most stoic action heroes called for at the time, and definitely wasn’t afraid to show his vulnerable side, and that he was kind of freaked out, like most people would be in that situation :)

My personal fan theory... there must have been an inside man, someone who told Hans about the $640 million, the vault, the elevators, the security guards, etc. He couldn't describe Takagi any better because there were other middle aged Japanese men working there. And that man's name was... Bill Clay!

When they were rigging Rickman to fall out out of the 'window' and onto padding perhaps 30 feet below, the stunt coordinator said he'd count to three and release him on 3...he released him on 2 which helps explain some of the genuine surprise on his face.

Alan Rickman's first movie. He'd only been in L.A. about a week when he landed the role of Hans Gruber. At this time Bruce Willis was known for comedy in the few movies he'd been in and the tv show Moonlighting that he was still on while filming this movie. None of us thought he'd become an action star.

Edit: They added this scene when the director realized that Alan could pull of a really good American accent. 22:47 In a special ceremony in June of 2007, Twentieth Century Fox and actor/producer Bruce Willis donated objects from the Oscar-nominated "Die Hard" movie to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Series protagonist John McClane will join the ranks of Indiana Jones and Rocky Balboa when items-including an athletic shirt, a poster and a publicity still from the original film "Die Hard" (1988), and a badge and original script from the fourth film in the series "Live Free or Die Hard" (2007)-join the museum's permanent entertainment collections. A selection of the "Die Hard" items will go on display in the new acquisitions case in the museum's "Treasures of American History" exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum which features more than 150 objects from the museum's vast and diverse collections.

19:35 "He's not afraid of collapsing the building?" He shouldn't be. That tiny explosion could not possibly collapse this building. In 1993, terrorists detonated a1,300 pound bomb in the parking garage of the World Trade Center. They thought it would collapse the building, especially since their explosion was trapped underground with nowhere to easily blast out into open air. It didn't work. It did quite a bit of damage to the concrete, but almost no damage to the steel support beams that hold the building up. That building had hundreds of vertical support columns and only one was slightly damaged. Repair crews fixed it and the entire building was reopened 20 days after the bombing. By comparison, that bomb was over 1,000x bigger than this C-4. Even adding in the unfired missiles that detonated, it's still less than 1% of the detonation at the World Trade Center. Also, almost 100% of this blast went out the windows leaving nothing left to damage anything remotely structural. Skyscrapers are really hard to blow up. That said, there's almost no way John McClane would know this kind of stuff; it's not commonly taught at the Police Academy and this movie was made 5 years before that terrorist attack, and the internet didn't exist then either. So I would not be worried about, nor would a structural engineer, but to answer your question, yeah, John McClane might have worried about it.

This is a Christmas movie. The primary conflict is that John McClane wants to go home with his wife, Holly[!!!], and celebrate Christmas with his family, and the resolution to that primary conflict is that his wife - she had stopped using his name but finally retakes his name - takes him home to spend Christmas with his family. That is the general plot of many Christmas movies. We even know that his coming home, involving what Mommy AND Santa can do, is a Christmas gift for his children, and in the end he is "giftwrapped" in a police blanket. This is a Christmas movie.
