Some basic info on Ghouls: In the Fallout setting, lethal doses of radiation don't always kill. Occasionally, the victim will "recover" but their DNA has been permanently altered, resulting in a Ghoul. Ghouls age extremely slowly and can live for hundreds (perhaps thousands) of years, are extremely resilient to physical damage, and are healed/regenerated by radiation exposure. The big downside is "going feral", over time a ghoul's mind can deteriorate and they essentially turn into wild animals. The time it takes for that to happen differs person-to-person, some folks keep on keepin' on for decades and decades while others lose their sh*t almost immediately.

Also it's not just anybody that can become a ghoul you have to have the gene for it, probably not in the show but that's how it is in the game lore.

Yes, the man was killed by a baby doll leg. In Fallout 4, one might discover a gun called the junk jet. It fires any items from your junk column in your inventory. So, any old junk can be fired at high velocity. Ashtrays, wrenches, baseballs, scissors, scalpels. There is a substantial list of junk in the game, that can be used for raw materials. I believe the game gives a quote about this weapon, "You haven't lived until you kill someone with a teddy bear."

Vaults, in almost every instance, are standalone. The 31-32-33 vault system is unique. And no, the personal fallout shelters are not connected.

I'm 63 and I remember in 1966 asking my dad about where was the fallout shelter we were supposed to go to in a nuking war with Russia? He laughed and said we weren't on the list and he added we ive in So-Cal close to an Air Force base that has nukes for bombers. we are also between Los Angeles and San Diego with it's Marine and Navy bases even if we survived the blast we'd die later. and would I really want one of my last acts on Earth to be killing a mother with a baby for the last can of pork & beans in the city to stay alive a few more days before dying anyway? My answer was no so oddly I stopped worrying but continued with the school duck and cover drill due to the threat of a major earth quake.

im 42 and british and i grew up in the last 10 years of the cold war and still remember nuclear drills. the start of this show sends shivers down my spin ,they used to tell us to duck and cover if bombs went off, we also had the IRA bombs to deal with so i also developed a phobis of public bins

Same age, and in NJ at the time. I remember duck and cover drills in school. All the public schools did have a fallout shelter symbol though. It would probably be not enough. Not sure you could get there in time either.

@@cyberash3000 Im of a similar age and ill never forget the one time we had to do one while in gym class and our teacher called it the "bend over and kiss your ass goodbye" drill. He got in trouble because if you tell a bunch of 10 year olds that it spreads like wildfire and that was we all called it from then on.

As a longtime Fallout fan, I'm so happy to see how this show turned out, and how many people who don't know the franchise are getting enveloped by it. Even if it may feel like a lot, you're asking the right questions, so don't feel bad if you're feeling lost. I felt the show did a good job resolving a lot of the plot points in this episode (why Moldaver invaded Vault 33, what happened to Vault 32, where's Cooper's daughter, etc.), so you'll get your answers as you watch. I think the only non-spoilery thing I can address is that, while the show doesn't explicitly state how people become ghouls (you'll meet more, Cooper isn't the only one, or even the only one in the Fallout franchise who was alive pre-war), the show gives you enough information that you can make an educated guess and get it mostly right. Which I think is a pattern in this show, and it works really well. Hope you keep watching 🤠!

16:10 Lucy's vault 33 is part of a three-vault system with 32 and 31, where each vault has a door connecting it to the other two, and also a door connecting it to the outside. Note that it's just for these three vaults, doesn't necessarily apply to others.

16:11 Like others have pointed out Vault 33 is unique in that it's a tripartite society that is divided between three Vaults. Vault 33 has a surface door depicted in the show and I assume that Vault 31 and Vault 32 have surfer doors as well allowing them to visit the surfer whenever instead of going through Vault 33 Everytime. Vaults range in location and layout as well but the idea of a three-vault system is unique to this TV show and is a cool addition to the lore. 16:40 The Brotherhood of Steel are a really interesting faction that first apperinceed in Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game (1997) best described as *Metallic Monks* with origins dating back to the U.S Military. Fallout (1997) was set in California with L.A being a location you could visit so the TV show shares the same setting. Fallout (1997) and Fallout TV (2024) are 135 year years apart so we have alot of Wasteland lore. Fallout New Vegas (2010) set in 2281 is the latest Fallout game to be set in the West Coast, 15 years before the events of this show. The Brotherhood we see in this show are hinted to be from the East Coast (Fallout 3 & Fallout 4) thanks to them wearing T-60 power Armor that only came into service months before the Great War and were only used on the East Coast for policing and riot control. The BOS found a stockpile of T-60 sometime between Fallout 3 in 2277 and Fallout 4 in 2287 replacing the older T-45 model we saw them wear in Fallout 3. Also they mention the Commonwealth in this episode better known as Massachusetts, Boston the setting of Fallout 4 and the last appearance on the Brotherhood timeline wise. So alot of cool Fallout lore stuff going on that is not THAT important for new fans to understand but fun little lore building and context to us fans wondering what may of happened after the events of Fallout 4 for example.

The needle Lucy used is called a stim-pac and in the game as well as in the series it restores your health. The show uses game logic not reality. Lucys dad isn't dead he was tranquilized. The bomb was used to seal off the entrance to 32 so Moldaver couldn't be followed. The brotherhoods armor is heavy but its powered so you do not use your own strength. The guard was killed by a weapon called a junk jet which fires pretty much anything as ammo.

Lol science and the law of thermodynamics says yes, however everything else would also be cooked in the same way the frozen pizzas are, so it’d be unlikely there would be anyone nearby to notice, or eat them. And even if there was the plastic wrap and box around them would also have been cooked so ew

Few things while trying to avoid spoilers. 1. Fallout is set in a universe where there was a different outcome to WW2, transistors were never created so everything is still valve driven but nuclear power took over powering everything from home electricity to cars etc. 2. Monte was the breeder. 3. Lucy used a stimpack on herself when she was stabbed, not adreneline which are the default medicinal technique. There are so many game-based mechanics in the show but they still make sense in an in-universe way, hope you enjoy the show as much as fans of the game do. It's up there with Last of Us as amazing game-to-show adaptations so am as excited for your journey in this as with Fast and Furious and will try to answer any show or game questions you come along with :D BTW, a lot of things you ask for people to explain in the comments are explained in the show over time so be careful of spoilers from people if you want to really experience and enjoy the show

for a general non-spoilery overview of the world. Fallout takes place in an alternate atomic future. Atomic power was integrated into normal life and lended to that retro-futuristic Jetsons style. In the games, very little is laid out for you, it requires you to loot around and learn bit by bit through recordings, interactions and documents about what happened before and after the bombs dropped. We know that the war was against communism but we've never had truly 100% clear answers on certain aspects of the history. The games themselves take place in different parts of the country, with different antagonists and protagonists from different points in time, between 2102 (Fallout 76) and 2296 (this show). The things that are always the same is the state of the world, the bombs dropping in 2077 and that radiation along with experimentation, before and after the bombs, has resulted in some truly messed up things out there in the wastelands. The games start basically the same with you leaving a vault for one reason or another to be faced with the reality of the world and no way of turning back.

As much as I hate this association of PowerArmor with Halo, I know not everyone has played Fallout, and I've never played Halo, and I found out about the Halo TV series an hour ago, but I can tell them apart.
