FF villain Dr. Doom. Ben has a catch phrase..."It's Clobberin' Time!!" Johnny's is "Flame On!". 😂

The 90s cartoon gave some very good reasons behind why each got their specific powers They were still caught by cosmic energy, but their ship was damaged. Ben was directly exposed due to tears in his suit, Sue was trapped beneath some debris (Which ben was trying to lift), Reed was trying to reach Sue, and Johnny had been set on fire. In the comics, I don't believe they were ever elaborated upon

You have met Reed Richards before in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but Reed was played by John Krasinski. For a long time, everyone wanted a Fantastic Four reboot to star Krasinski and his real life wife, Oscar-nominee Emily Blunt (who was the first casting choice for Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in Iron Man 2). The new Fantastic Four is cast and is as follows: - Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) - Yep, The Mandalorian himself! - Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Girl) - Lots of movie work, also played Princess Margaret in seasons 1 & 2 of The Crown - Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch) - Eddie from Stranger Things. - Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) - currently on The Bear. Oh...and Doctor Doom has been recast with Robert Downey, Jr. But, it's not entirely clear if he is Victor von Doom, or an different Dcotor Doom. However, RDJ will be in the next Avengers films as the big bad. Reed Richard in these Fantastic Four movies is Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd (pronounced YO-an Griffith). He was the Titanic officer who went back for survivors after the sinking and rescued Rose in Titanic. He was also known for his television role as Horatio Hornblower in several made for TV movies called Hornblower, which told the story o a British Royal Navy officer as he rises from Midshipman to the top of the chain of command during the Napoleonic Wars. They only covered to the point where Hornblower became Captain of the List. Ben Grimm is played by another TV actor, Emmy-winner Michael Chiklis who is best known for the series The Commish and The Shield. In the Commish he was a Police Commissioner who was a lot like his Ben Grimm character, a sweet and lovable family man who is a great cop. In The Shield, he was a sleazy, dirty cop who was into everything...and won an Emmy for it. As a kid growing up, he had a dream of playing Ben Grimm. When he got the role, he was over the moon. In many ways, Chiklis is the heart of both Fantastic Four movies...his love of Ben Grimm is obvious, even when he's playing the sad moments.

These movies weren't as bad as people made them out to be. The only fault was how the handled the second one and honestly had it come out a few years later it probably would have been more faithful. Sadly, these movies came around a time where studios were still hesitant about going full comic book and honestly were quite resentful. Wasn't till Dark Knight and Iron Man that things got better after comic book movies hit a bit of a rut between 2004 and 2007 with many lukewarm or straight up bad sequels, like Spider-Man 3, Blade Trinity, X-Men Last Stand.

7/10 A pretty good film As a reader of the comics, I was really excited to finally see a movie about my favourite characters. I've learned that a FF film was in "development hell" for some decades, so when it finally came out, obviously I rushed to the theater. And, I was not disappointed at all. Of course it's not as good as X-Men 2 or Spider-Man (the original, with Tobey Maguire), but it's good for what it aims to be: a sci-fi/action movie about comic book characters. You have to understand that the Fantastic Four are not as popular as other heroes, like Iron Man i.e., besides, their stories always covered the most strange, bizarre, far out things imaginable. And, because they are a family, there are many corny moments in the movie, but the comics too have those moments, then you just have to "let it go", to really enjoy the story.

The reason there's some similarities between the Incredibles and the Fantastic Four is because it's kind of intentional. Both are families, with four people in the main cast, but the powers have a lot of alignment, too. Sure, they're distributed differently, but you still get super strength, elasticity, and invisibility/force fields. Sure, the fire powers were swapped out for super speed, but such is as it is. There's even a parallel with the comics version of the team in two other ways: for one, their main villain has no powers (Doctor Doom in the comics doesn't have any powers, but he is a omni-disciplinary scientist and knows almost as much magic as Doctor Strange) and the child of the primary couple is one with unlimited potential. While Jack-Jack in the Incredibles has every power, Franklin Richards (Reed and Sue's son) is a mutant with the ability to alter reality. No Fantastic Four movie has been particularly well received, and the Incredibles (the first one) is seen by many to be the best adaptation of the team, despite not being one in actuality. Let's hope the MCU does a better job (not holding my breath). But, just know that there are four Fantastic Four movies currently (fittingly): this one, as well as a follow-up in Rise of the Silver Surfer, a 2015 reboot film (often considered the worst of the lot), and a 1994 movie which was never officially released. That last one may not be good, but it's worth a watch (especially since it has the most comic-accurate Doctor Doom we've seen in live action), especially after hearing the backstory behind it: The studio with the film rights to the Fantastic Four needed to make a film in a certain amount of time, or the rights would revert back to Marvel. So, they hired Roger Corman, who was known for making movies on the incredibly cheap, to produce. It's unknown if he knew the plan from the start, but the cast definitely didn't know that the idea was to film it but never release it, because the contract only said that they needed to make a film in the certain amount of time, not anything about distribution. Much of the cast paid their own money to go to conventions to promote the film, seeing it as potentially their big break. It was only later that it was revealed that said film wasn't going to be released, though it had a screening at a comic convention, I believe. A tape of the film began circling through the fan community, and has a cult status as the-movie-that-never-was. It's better than it should be for an ashcan copy of a film, but its circumstances means that there's also a lot left to be desired. It's definitely an experience, though.

@@AddieCountsSomething you need to understand about Sue. She was created in the 60's, by a dude, and as such was pretty neutral bordering in submissive at a lot of times during the comic's history. She's been written much better over time, but sometimes writers *over*compensate for the past. This leads to a phenomenon my friends call "Scary Sue", where she's written as someone who could totally kill anyone if she wanted to, and that she knows it. The key is in finding a balance between these two extremes.
