I remember seeing the trailer for this during the Super Bowl and it made the movie look a lot more serious than it was. With that being said I still freaking love this movie. It is not a "good" movie, but it's a fun one. It's definitely one of those guilty pleasure type movies that isn't good, but isn't bad and is quite enjoyable. Plus Kate Beckinsale. Enough said.

Couple of tidbits. It's strongly hinted but not stated that Van Helsing is the angel Gabriel. Also, this was supposed to become a franchise but sadly never got off the ground.

This is a very underrated film, a great little romp through the classic horror literature monsters. I love the werewolf transformation, how every change bursts through the previous skin showing the agony of every change .

October, but not _too_ scary or gory: "Death Becomes Her" (1992) "Shadow of the Vampire" (2000) "Sleepy Hollow" (1999) "Mary Reilly" (1996) "Copycat" (1995) "Kiss The Girls" (1997) "Manhunter" (1986) "Hellboy" (2004 original) "Underworld" (2003) "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1993 original) "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" (1988) "Sweeney Todd" (2007 version)

If you want more Hugh Jackman I highly recommend 1998s original London cast's production of Oklahoma, he plays Curly in that. And if you liked van helsing I think you might like pride and prejudice and zombies from 2016

And if there should be any more questions about why so many soldiers weren't able to go on with a normal life after they got home... well, this is your answer. That and the fact that to the people back home these boys transformed from the hero to be proud of to a murdering monster because of all the uncensored news from Vietnam that reached the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Although I don't recall the back story, Dracula and Van Helsing have always been adversaries. The original book by Bram Stoker probably goes into some detail about it. I've never read it.

You look a bit like the redhead vampire. Under rated movie. Imagine living in Transylvania? Frankenstein, werewolves, vampires... like 24/7 something is trying to kill you.

When Dracula calls Van Helsing “the Left Hand of God,” he actually means that literally. That is the big plot twist of the film: Van Helsing is actually the archangel Gabriel in human form.

If they do a 5 it will probably be a flashback to him meeting his wife and the "impossible task" to get out. Continuing on from this would not make sense.

Oh poor thing seeing the Dewey at the door scene 🥺
In Van Helsing´s first scene, he fought with Mr Hyde (the alter ego of Dr Jekyll, who has a multiple personality disorder). After kill him he came back to Jekyll´s semblance. I highly recommend you to read the historical short novel by Robert Louis Stevenson: "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde".

You hit the nail right on the head: "Van Helsing" isn't a horror movie. Rather, it's an adventure movie with horror elements and trappings, but a horror movie isn't defined by those trappings. As in many things in life, a horror movie is really about the "how" and not the "what".

Stephen Sommers made this as a tribute to his father. They would watch old Black & White monster movies together, hence the silly tropes while still being very entertaining.

I always chuckle when people are shocked the Raban/Gurney fight is short. Gurney Halik is one of the mightiest warriors in the known galaxy. He's the battlemaster of House Atriedes, which is legendary for its legions of skilled warriors. Raban Harkonen is a thug and a bully... that's it. There's a reason his weapon is a whip. Its for beating down weakened and scared endentured slaves, not battling against man killers. In any real fight Raban gets crushed. Its also why he immediately retreated and almost died to a Fedaykin in the earlier ambush set by Mua'Dib.

30:31 Just FYI according to Jewish tradition, the archangel Gabriel stands at "The Left Hand of God" which Dracula says here and thus it's heavily implied that he's the famous archangel.

In this movie, Kate Beckinsale's character kills vampires. In the Underworld movie franchise, her character is one.

I was wondering why you didn't seem to recognize Kate Beckinsale... then I noticed you haven't reacted to Underworld yet! You should react to Underworld! And this time of year is perfect as it is also a vampire/werewolf movie. Again, not really horror! It's a great franchise!

One of the weirdest death in movie history. Why has she died in the end? Did she break her neck? What? Why? A very odd scene.... But the movie is fun to watch and I enjoy it for what it is :-)

5:57 "What? What? What is he?" Since you seem unfamiliar with the "modern myth," that was Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. It's a monster story that is perceived as being of the same era as Frankenstein and Dracula -- one where the skinny, smart Dr. Jekyl creates a potion that turns him into the "hulked out" id, Mr. Hyde. (You may have noticed in editing that Hyde's severed arm also reverted to a skinnier version.)
