Ned and the rest are on the road heading South to King’s Landing. Remember -it takes a MONTH to ride.

To clarify, there is only one king, Robert Baratheon, the fat guy who went north to retrieve Ned. Ned Stark is a Lord, and has been given the position of Warden of the North, meaning the other Northern Lords answer to him. The current king took the throne from the father of the last two Targaryens, the blondes across the sea who married into the Dothraki. The Dothraki are not the only people across the sea, but King Robert's authority does not apply over there, it's basically a separate continent with it's own governments. The Dothraki never would have cared about the King, but the Targaryens (Viserys and Danaerys) want to go reclaim their father's throne from Robert; Danaerys married Khal Drogo so that Viserys could use their fighters to take back the throne. It's a politically complex world with LOTS of family houses, rival Lords, and many nations. I'd recommend taking notes, and that's nothing personal, it's just so many names, nicknames, families, sigils, and cultures to keep up with 😅

The thing with Sansa is that, not only is she 13, but she's also betrothed to Joffrey - which is basically an engagement that can last for years until they come of age to marry -, she have been promised to him and this sort of engagement is very very hard to break, so she's basically bound to him for life until they marry. It's not really her choice, and unless Ned broke the match, she'd have to abide by everything he does or says even when he's in the wrong. Fucked up - I know, but that's how things were back then 😬

Not back the. In that universe. Westeros is set in a completely separate and fictional universe. Their timeline is not related to our own.

In this episode, the King, Arya, Sansa, Ned,.... are in a village on the Kingsroad, on their way to King's Landing. The butcher's boy lives in this village. There's 100s of the King's people on their way. Catelyn is far behind, and it takes a month for the King's party to get back to King's Landing. It would take a little less time for Catelyn with a smaller party travelling by horse. Pay attention to the map in the intro. Sansa and Arya are with Ned going to the Capital, King's Landing, for marriage prospects. The woman married usually moves to a new region, castle, with her new husband's estate.

Katlyn is mainly traveling by ship. She was planning on riding to White Harbor, the largest town in The North, and boarding a ship bound for King’s Landing from there.

Please don't stop watching - by the last couple of episodes of this first season, you will be heavily invested in all the characters and various storylines, it's worth the effort! You just need to get your 'medieval' head on, though - I understand why things wind you up, but you can't really judge medieval behaviours and expectations by 21st century standards. Life was very different then, things like position, family name, roles in society, etc, were of utmost importance. Crazy, yes, but it was that way for a very long time!

"Taking the Black". The men of the Nights Watch wear all black. The thing that Lady Catlyn was making is sort of like a protection symbol that is placed near a recovering person. Kinda like something to ward off evil.

Probably a heptagram, a seven sided star, to symbolize the seven Gods (or sevens aspects of a single God, depending on how you view things) of the main Westerosi Religion. Those Gods are the Father, Smith, Warrior, Mother, Maiden, Crone, and Stranger.

The plan was both girls and Bran were to go to Kings Landing with Ned. The oldest, Robb and youngest Rickon were to stay in the north with their mother.

I saw someone say Dany was 17 at the beginning of the show but idk how accurate that is
@-jess--here--4 күн бұрын
@@daniv8500 that's correct. Robert's rebellion was 17 years ago and Dany was born then.
@bill.godwin-austen4 күн бұрын
This! They aged all the kids up for the show. Jon and Dany are roughly the same age, so 13-14 in the books, and around 17-18 in the show. Bran and Rickon are also a couple years older in the show.

My friend, Sansa is 12yo. She grew up in the country and they told her she will marry a literal CELEBRITY, a prince, and she will be queen. Cut her a lil slack. She also paid a huge price by losing her direwolf...
@TooPiece4 күн бұрын
I hear you, talk a bit more about it in episode 3. No slack was shown towards 11 yr old Arya and Joff could have k**led her with the sword while her sister sat there and told her she’s ruining things 😅 Different perspectives
@valbonney25753 күн бұрын
@@TooPiece Different perspectives, yes ... but different children 😉 Arya is the little wild one, allowed to pretty much run free, play with bow & arrow, climb on a cart with a helmet on. Sansa was groomed from birth to be a 'lady' (no surprise that's what she named her dire wolf), trained in the finer 'arts' and behaviours, and expected to marry well whether she liked it or not. Little wonder she became spoiled and a romantic, dreaming of the day when she would be queen. Her prince - her promised husband - was taking her on a romantic walk, giving her wine, trying to impress her, it was all her dreams coming true until the fight broke out. Yes, she was a silly, naive child ... but still a child, who had lived a very sheltered life! Probably hormonal, too! 😜
