The animation is genuinely some of the worst I've ever seen in a film, but it's what gives it, it's identity. It's instantly recognisable and adds to the charm of the film. This is proof that as long as a film has a good story and characters, people will overlook the rest.

My son loved this movie when he was little and every time I watched it, and I watched it a lot, it reminded me of OM. In 5th grade, my teacher signed up a small group of us to "Odyssey of the Mind". We had to write a parody of stories like this, design and build a set that had to change, make costumes, etc. It was really fun & we got to go to Washington DC to compete in the "world finals". It's still going on & it's for all ages. So, for all the parents out there, look into it for your school and kids. It was a lot of fun 😊

Thanks for reviewing "Hoodwinked" and bringing it to more people's attention. This film is so underrated. Most reviewers take one look at the "cheap" animation style and immediately turn up their noses. What they don't get is that clever writing and witty dialogue can more than compensate for modest production values. This film is like "Rashomon" for kids, and it teaches a valuable lesson: We need to get all sides of a story before we pass judgment.

This film is one of my most guiltiest of guilty pleasures. I saw the bad reviews for 'Hoodwinked!' back in the day panning the film and the animation, and gave it a hard pass. Then soon afterwards, I saw 'Shrek The Third' and was so bitterly disappointed by that film that I went to my local Blockbuster, saw Hoodwinked on the shelf and thought: "...it can't be as bad as Shrek 3, surely..." So I rented it and - despite the technical limitations - I really liked it. It had more heart than Shrek 3 and, IMHO, more laughs, too.

i absolutely loved this one as a kid! glad to see it still holds up haha. i think even at the time, animation was much better than this, so I'm like 99% sure this was a stylistic choice. it worked though, it fit the plot and humor perfectly. there is a sequel, Hoodwinked Too, or something. I know I saw it (in theaters even! 💀) but i don't remember it at all... so it must not have been as good, sadly. but if you watch it i will be happy to revisit it!
@MuljoStpho5 ай бұрын
It was made by some small unknown studio on a low budget. They had no chance of putting out anywhere near the quality of animation that big studios like Dreamworks or Pixar were producing around the same time. Let's see, this was... 2005. So around that time Dreamworks made Madagascar and Pixar made The Incredibles and Cars. Shrek 2 and Shrek 3 were a couple years before and after this as well. Hmm, I checked to see what else Kanbar Entertainment had made. It looks like it's just four movies, including both Hoodwinked movies. But I just read something interesting while looking that up. They made a deal with the Weinstein Company after production was finished on Hoodwinked to handle its distribution (they handled production / financing all on their own, they just needed help releasing it), but when it came to Hoodwinked Too they got talked into making a deal letting Weinstein Company help them finance it, giving them a bigger budget for the sequel. But the Weinstein Company added delays to the project and apparently didn't help out with production / financing as much as they'd promised. There was a lawsuit over it, accusing the Weinstein Company of violating the agreement. The first movie was made on a $8M budget and earned back $110M. The second movie was made on a $30M budget and earned back $23.1M. I have both movies on DVD. Looking at the summary on the back of the second movie, it says that Red has been training with a covert group called the Sisters of the Hood (if I recall in the movie they make it out to be like a a ninja spy organization or something? I think she's supposed to have already been a member before the first movie but she wasn't fully trained yet?) but gets interrupted when Flippers calls her and the rest of the cast of the first movie in to investigate that a wicked witch has abducted Hansel and Gretel. And... Yeah, I don't remember where they went with it from there either.

Some reactors react to it harshly. But you didnt it. I watched this movie i believe just once as a kid and i couldnt remember the name of it but somehow it affected me so deeply that i knew some of the lines. It was until 10 years later that i watched movies that i have and i had no idea what it was about. Its like "oh this is where i know those lines from" and i love to watch every now and then, this movie and Megamind, which is also ahead of its time. The sad thing is it is VERY RARE now, so if you have the DVD, please, keep it, even if it gets scratches. Sure the art is bad but story is good! And i will always be saying "man we need more plot twists like that, more villians, more good stories than what we now have" this movie is more than a 10 out of 10. Its 1000 out of 10. And please dont watch the second one, ever. Its that bad.
