But I think he missed the whole butterfly symbolism near the end... his little girl says in the flash back in car "look daddy, a butterfly" and then he sees butterfly tattoo on woman's neck near the end as well as the cracked glass resembling a butterfly. It's meant as God giving him a sign or that love wins out in the end.

I like the good ending that shows that these vampires have intelligence and feelings too (we were shown why the leader of the mutants took revenge). And in it the main character doesn't die absurdly like a kamikaze with an incendiary grenade.

@@TomBombadil89yea in the alternative ending will smith releases the mutated woman from her restraints because he realizes the mutant leader is her husband/bf. And he picks up his wife/gf and sees her as a human, he then defiantly roars telling the others to retreat and he gives will smith almost an acknowledgment that they will be back to be cured. Honestly I think this would’ve been a better ending🤣we get to realize there was still human left in the mutants, at least enough to care that much about one another and to realize they have been cured and this isn’t how they have to stay.

I usually pride myself on not being an overly emotional person, but I'm not gonna lie. When he was forced to put down his only friend in the entire world, I almost lost it. That hit me so hard because for me, its just me and my dog. And with my medical issues these last few years, my dog has been a lifeline for me, kind of like Sam was for him. I cant even image how hard that was. I know its fiction but still, that hit hard.

To the darkseekers, Will Smith was the boogey man. Using his technology and near immunity to sunlight, he would come and go as he pleased, kidnapping and experimenting on them. None of those taken ever returned alive. That's his legend. The alternate ending is definitely more thought provoking, but not as cinematic.

Poor Sam was the only one he had left🥺😭 His daughter gave him Sam to protect him and she died protecting him and saved his life. Thats man’s best friend right there, she’s free from all that scary crazy danger and chaos of that world now she can go to heaven to wait for him with his family… and they don’t have to wait for him too long because he went out like a hero too saving those 2 that saved him. He did it, he kept trying and never gave up and found the cure!💪 I mean losing Sam made him give up but God sent him a guardian angel to save his life because his work wasn’t done. 🔥👏😭LOVE this movie so much!!

@@TomBombadil89 Yeah he's essentially sacrificed like a spectacle in front of all of the vampires. I don't believe we actually witness it, but we know what's coming in no uncertain terms, and Robert accepts his fate instead of trying to fight it.

In the original ending, the creatures were a more advanced intelligent people and the reason they had beef with Will was exactly because he kept taking their own and experimenting on them. Test audiences didn't like it, so they made an alternate ending for the final cut that shows Will going out like a hero to save mankind. They kept the original ending as a labeled "alternate ending" on home media releases though!

This is remake of a Classic. The first, The Last Man on Earth with The great Vincent Price. The next and best one, The Omega Man with the equally great Charlton Heston. The Omega Man is a must watch!

One of Will's BEST performances. They're making a sequel with Will coming back. They're gonna use the ALTERNATIVE ending where Will's character survives. Also, the "demons" are actually Vampires. That's why the can't be in sunlight and need to feed. They're just feral vamps. In the novel this movie is based on, Robert Neville is just some guy who survives in New York after a pandemic that "kills" most of Earths population and hunts and kills the creatures during the day while they sleep. Unknown to him however, the creatures are actually humans turned Vampires and are as intelligent as humans and have basically created their own civilization in the years since the virus. But since he doesn't go out at night, he doesn't know. He assumes they're mindless creatures. He doesn't know they're vampires. In the novel, it's ROBERT who is the "boogeyman", the "terror of the day", to the Vampires. He is "the legend" of the old world. The last remaining remnant of humanity. When the vamps finally capture him and reveal themselves fully, he realizes he's been killing innocent families. And for his crimes, the vampires decide to execute him by lethal injection, which he welcomes. His crimes and life become Legend to the Vampires.

That's also why he was probably so intent on hunting, humans can technically survive without meat, getting nutrients other ways and if they keep everything balanced it's sustainable, he'd have known that as a scientist, but dogs just can't survive healthily without a meat based diet.

Also in the novels the Darkseekers the monsters in the movie are basically Vampires not zombies that's why they hate sunlight and they're super pale and unless you're immune to the airborne strain you're already turned for sure. Plus if you're not immune to the contact strain like Will Smith then when one of them bites you or something like that you'll be infected with it

The "zombies" are more like vampires and have taken the world over, and he is the only one left, and they talk and have a whole society going where he is the boogey man that kills people in their sleep. Really awesome. the title makes a whole lot more sense.

The fact Leo said it was the dark seekers that captured Will on the first attempt seeing this movie is incredible. I never saw that before. But it makes sense the dark seekers saw what he was doing to them by capturing and using them to find a cure. They used his own tactics against Will to capture him in defense. I never understood that but after seeing the alternate ending I see the dark seekers viewed Will as the evil one trying to kill them. Mind blown
