The actual book explains the "I Am Legend" title. TWO seperate societies develop from the virus. One is the monster zombies and the other are the infected, intelligent zombies (or vampires). After years, the intelligent creatures manage to finally capture Neville. Through hiis "keeper" he comes to realize that THEY are the new HUMANITY on the planet. And as they developed their own society, they also developed their own stories around Nevile. So he realizes that HE is their "boogie man" their "monster in the dark". As the old remnant of the old humanity that was killing them, he became the MONSTER in the story. And thru those stories about him, he realized that HE WAS THEIR LEGEND

In the book by Richard Matheson written in the 50s, they are vampires. They kind of look like zombies to me though. But when Sam gets bit, he looks at the dogs teeth because she’s becoming a vampire. That’s why they can’t be in the sun. But a virus infected zombie creature is more believable than a vampire. Good movie.

I basically swore off this movie over a decade ago, not because it isn't good, it IS a great movie. But, like Will Smith's character, I am also a proud German Shepherd dad (3 in total) and Sam's death scene is too much for me. My first Shepherd died right next to me too (natural causes, non-zombie related) and I also buried her in the back yard. So this hits me pretty hard. I could literally watch the Red Wedding on repeat before I can watch the full doggy death scene just once. Always astounds me how deeply connected to our hearts our dogs are, that we often care more about them than actual people. But yeah, I braved through watching this with you guys after all these years, and I'm glad you liked it.... but I'm going right back to never watching this again. Lol😉

Another movie involving a virus and a military quarantine is "Outbreak" (1995) starring Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman. Also, there's a 1970 Simon & Garfunkel song called, "The Only Living Boy in New York". Its not about a virus, but about missing a very close friend. Which is also applicable to I Am Legend's Neville after he loses Samantha.

Congrats on this being your first Will Smith reaction. I do suggest Men In Black, Independence Day, Bad Boys 1-3, Men in Black 3, Enemy Of The State (highly suggest, this is my favorite of his films), Hancock, and I, Robot. Asia, you're correct, The Last Of Us vibes here along with Omega Man starring Charlton Heston and 28 Days Later. Btw, that's Will's real daughter, Willow in the flashback scenes. "I whip my hair back and forth." I do suggest the films Cloverfield and Lord Of The Flies.

nahh, it's a remake of remake of a story based on a book. The "imagination" comes completely from these sources and out of the 4 it has by far the weakest story. Back in the 2000s there were movies that actually respected the source material(unlike today), this isn't one of them. And for that it got well deserved criticism and was rated mid, which its is imho. I do enjoy it, it's entertaining and Will Smith does a very good job carrying it alone, but calling this clusterf@ck of a story underrated is kinda hilarious if you know the other 3.

A movie in a similar vein I would suggest is "The Mist", based on a Stephen King story. Not post-apocalyptic but during a seemingly apocalyptic incident, there are many scary things but the most interesting part is how the people involved react to the situation. It all feels very real and has a similarly bittersweet ending.

I AM LEGEND is a remake of a remake. It all started with a 1954 novel by American author Richard Matheson (1926-2013) which was made into a 1964 movie called THE LAST MAN ON EARTH starring the master of hirrir Vincent Price (1911-1993), which Matheson despised. That was remade into 1971's THE OMEGA MAN starring Charlton Heston (1923-2008) who was famous for alot of films, including THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956), the original BEN-HUR (1959) and PLANET OF THE APES (1967). They shot an alternate ending where Neville survived and all three of them reached the sanctuary. From what I understood from the novel, the "zombies" considered Neville to be the abnormal lifeform, as the zombies were now the dominant sentient species. They apparently understood what he was saying, but they just didn't care. As far as they were concerned, the life they lived now was the only life left, no going back to how things were. They saw Neville as a relic of the chaotic past, one that shouldn't be around anymore.

30:19... Well remember tho, the fourth wall is full at all times so, they'Re NEVER alone, and lines and directions are constantly provided for them, we just don't see that in the cuts. \O>

Another one you'll like with Will Smith is Seven Pounds. Actually, Will has been in quite a lot of good movies, except Wild Wild West and After Earth, don’t even waste your time on those.

I would also recommend THE BOOK OF ELI with Denzel Washington. Awesome movie

This is such a great movie but it always makes me cry. Another really good edge of your seat movie is Book of Eli with Denzel Washington. ❤

I live by myself. I got a water jug, orange juice pitcher, and a jug of lemonade. I drink straight from the 2 jugs and pour a glass from the pitcher cause guests might want some. But the jugs are all mine.

This movie has gotten better with age. Along with The Pursuit of Happyness, it’s Will Smith’s best work as an actor IMO

I had a jug of Gold Peak Slightly Sweet in my hand when she started talking about drinking out of the jug.

I really feel this is one of Will Smith's best roles. He was really selling that pain and suffering, felt so real. He also got so cut up for this film! Did you see those abs? Wish I could get that fit!!!!

This is the alternate ending for this movie that you watched. In the original he lives. Because there is going to be an I am Legend 2 that he is filming right now. He can’t be dead if he’s filming the next movie. But honestly this ending made more sense than the original ending to me.

I've seen a bunch of Will Smith movies and enjoyed them, but it was this movie, during the scene with Sam where it holds on his face that I actually appreciated his acting ability. Like you said, when it's just the actor on their own, with no one to play off, that must be really hard.

I just realized this is the alternate ending. In the one I saw, Will realized that the leader was just trying to get his mate back and he gives her back to him and they make peace with each other😮

I love the juxtaposition of him losing faith in God but, ultimately, becoming a god. In the new civilization, he'll be revered as something like a savior/deity.. a legend.
