The scene at night, when he and Sam are sleeping in the bathtub and outside in the distance you can here the vampires getting closer, howling, shrieking, prowling the night, hunting, is truly terrifying.

This movie is why I'm terrified of mannequins. That scene when Will Smith's character sees Fred is so creepy. It shows the vampires are super smart because they set the trap, and after shooting it, he realizes they're watching him.

There are many theories that before Neville gets caught in the snare trap, he actually set the trap there himself a long time ago. But the isolation he’s experienced for the past 3 years of being alone made him forget he ever set the trap there at Grand Central in the first place.

@@Jovic_00 No. If you look back earlier, Fred was actually one of the mannequins at the front of the store from earlier. That's why Neville was so freaked out. He didn't move it. The vampires were setting a trap for him, just like he set the trap previously to catch one of them.

The actual book explains the "I Am Legend" title. TWO seperate societies develop from the virus. One is the monster zombies and the other are the infected, intelligent zombies (or vampires). After years, the intelligent creatures manage to finally capture Neville. Through hiis "keeper" he comes to realize that THEY are the new HUMANITY on the planet. And as they developed their own society, they also developed their own stories around Nevile. So he realizes that HE is their "boogie man" their "monster in the dark". As the old remnant of the old humanity that was killing them, he became the MONSTER in the story. And thru those stories about him, he realized that HE WAS THEIR LEGEND

There is an alternative ending to this movie that was scrapped last minute because "more explosions please", but I hear they later regretted not sticking with the original idea.

I remember reading the book after the movie and thinking the book had a much better story/concept. The movie is good too, but if I were to choose, the books core idea comes out on top. I wish they kept the original ending that nodded to his realization that they didn't want to be saved, that he was the enemy.

In the book by Richard Matheson written in the 50s, they are vampires. They kind of look like zombies to me though. But when Sam gets bit, he looks at the dogs teeth because she’s becoming a vampire. That’s why they can’t be in the sun. But a virus infected zombie creature is more believable than a vampire. Good movie.

When Sam runs into the building where it’s dark. The fear that Will Smith conveys was Oscar worthy. Remember as a kid you were convinced the sheets protected you from the vampire standing next to your bed. Holding your breath and when you DO breathe trying to take these short, shallow “quiet” breaths. I took my daughter to see this instead of the bucket list. She’s been saying for years that she’ll be sending me her therapy bills due to being so scarred from this movie! 🤣🤣

1. This is my favorite Will Smith movie. 2.The part that gave me real respect for Will Smith is the scene where he's talking to the mannequin right after having to kill his best/only friend and says, "Please say hello to me".😭 THAT'S acting. Where did he go to get that?. 😎 3. This film is mostly a remake of "The Last Man On Earth" and "The Omega Man" staring Charlton Heston. 4. The wild animals escaped from the Manhattan Zoo. 5. He was saving the bacon for Samantha. 6. There's speculation that he's the bad guy because he's the hunter now. 7. I absolutely fell in love/LUST with Alice Braga after I saw this movie. 😍 8. The female was the leader's squeeze. 9. There's another ending where he lives. This one's better. He dies in "OM" too.

Another movie involving a virus and a military quarantine is "Outbreak" (1995) starring Dustin Hoffman and Morgan Freeman. Also, there's a 1970 Simon & Garfunkel song called, "The Only Living Boy in New York". Its not about a virus, but about missing a very close friend. Which is also applicable to I Am Legend's Neville after he loses Samantha.

I basically swore off this movie over a decade ago, not because it isn't good, it IS a great movie. But, like Will Smith's character, I am also a proud German Shepherd dad (3 in total) and Sam's death scene is too much for me. My first Shepherd died right next to me too (natural causes, non-zombie related) and I also buried her in the back yard. So this hits me pretty hard. I could literally watch the Red Wedding on repeat before I can watch the full doggy death scene just once. Always astounds me how deeply connected to our hearts our dogs are, that we often care more about them than actual people. But yeah, I braved through watching this with you guys after all these years, and I'm glad you liked it.... but I'm going right back to never watching this again. Lol😉

I do suggest Men In Black, Independence Day, Bad Boys 1-3, Men in Black 3, Enemy Of The State (highly suggest, this is my favorite of his films), Hancock, and I, Robot. Asia, you're correct, The Last Of Us vibes here along with Omega Man starring Charlton Heston and 28 Days Later. Btw, that's Will's real daughter, Willow in the flashback scenes. nahh, it's a remake of remake of a story based on a book. The "imagination" comes completely from these sources and out of the 4 it has by far the weakest story. Back in the 2000s there were movies that actually respected the source material(unlike today), this isn't one of them. And for that it got well deserved criticism and was rated mid, which its is imho. I do enjoy it, it's entertaining and Will Smith does a very good job carrying it alone, but calling this clusterf@ck of a story underrated is kinda hilarious if you know the other 3.

A movie in a similar vein I would suggest is "The Mist", based on a Stephen King story. Not post-apocalyptic but during a seemingly apocalyptic incident, there are many scary things but the most interesting part is how the people involved react to the situation. It all feels very real and has a similarly bittersweet ending.

Willard Smith is such a talented actor! I’ve been following his musical and acting career since he came out in the 90s. Also, his daughter in this movie is his daughter Willow when she was little. His son Jayden also played alongside him in the movie Pursuit of Happyness and Will and Jada helped create The Karate Kid with Jayden and Jackie Chan.

Back in 2009 & 2010, History Channel aired a series called Life After People. It focuses on what would happen if humans were no longer here & each episode covers a different topic from our buildings, too nuclear weapons, too food. I highly recommend giving it a watch.

I love this film. Great reaction. Did you guy’s know, this movie is a remake that has two older versions. One is, “The Last man on earth” A black and white movie version of the novel, “I Am Legend” starring Vincent Price. The second is from the 1970’s called, Omega man, starring Charlton Heston. That movie is hilariously the same & vastly different at the same time. Please watch the movie -trailer, you will get a kick out of it.

The alternate ending is better, where he realises they’ve come for the girl (because from their perspective he’s keeping her captive and experimenting on her) and hands her over then survives. I think they should have kept that ending but for some reason test audiences didn’t get it. Apparently they’re making a sequel where that ending was the canon one though so ???

This is the alternate ending for this movie that you watched. In the original he lives. Because there is going to be an I am Legend 2 that he is filming right now. He can’t be dead if he’s filming the next movie. But honestly this ending made more sense than the original ending to me.

I read an article about how the book has a completely different and more logical ending (I haven’t read it myself, I never get around to it) Finally, the main character had to see that these monsters had their own language, their own cities, their own society, and they completely replaced people. And these monsters have a legend about a monster that kidnaps them at night and kills them.... This is why “I am a legend”.

There are two endings to this film. On the DvD you can watch the other ending in which he survives . You can probably find it on youtube by now. They screen tested an audience before the film released and showed both endings, asking the audience to choose which was better. Personally I prefer the alternative ending. They're going to make a sequel of this film. Will Smith is in it so I can only assume they're going to pretend the ending shown in cinemas didn't happen and the alternative one was the real one in order to have the sequel make sense
