Sarah & Allen were 12 years old in 1969 Judy & Peter were the same age in 1995. This is the best reaction I've seen of this classic.
@jacobk93224 күн бұрын
Thank you for reacting to this. Any kid growing up in 90s gets the hardcore nostalgia feels for this movie. It’s a kid’s movie that was magical enough but not silly. We all wanted to escape the world we lived in behind for whichever reason. Robin is at his best and James Horner’s score is a masterpiece. I can’t watch this movie without crying. FunFact there’s a deleted scene that shows that Alan got Judy and Peter Parrish Sneakers, a very limited special edition called The Jumanji.

Different era back then. My brother and I were left alone around age ten, we were fine. I flew across the US on my own when I was twelve to visit my grandparents. I landed in Pennsylvania, and I kid you not, my luggage showed up two days later because it went to Jamaica. 😄 The circle is now complete.

You guys are so young, that a couple of references went over your heads. After the grown up Alan tried shaving for the first time, he asked the girl, did the Clampets have a yard sale, he was referring to the 1960s TV show, the Beverly Hillbillies. When the gun store owner asked the hunter was he a postal worker, that was a reference to the saying "going postal". Back around the time this movie was being made, there were a series of shootings around the country at different post offices.

About who hears the drums. It's not just kids that can hear them and I only noticed it after watching the movie several times: "Jumanji: a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind." That's what all the kids wanted for different reasons. Allen wanted to go away, Sarah wanted to be there for him, Judy and Peter because they lost their parents. They might not have realized it, but they wanted to leave their world behind. That's exactly what the game gave them and also taught them that maybe their world isn't so bad. Why did the pelican take the game? Because the game hinders and helps the players. It creates obstacles to overcome, but also helps them by keeping outside interference that would stop them playing away. The game bends time and space, materializes flora and fauna, creates a localized earthquake and a monsoon inside a house. I don't think you can destroy it with nonmagical means. I didn't watch the new movies, because I always figured a sequel would be the same just in a big city. Take New York and see it taken over by the jungle as the movie goes on. Especially with modern possibilities. I realize it's just me, but what I saw of the new movies looked cheap to me. In comparison.

Ryl, I think you were right about the girl making up stories because of the senseless death of the parents. Coping mechanism.
@kaylamackenzie17168 күн бұрын
You guys figured out the sneaker guy from old to young, but didn’t realize that “van pelt” was the same actor that plays Alan’s dad. So when he says things like “time to stand up like a man” it’s a depiction of his father. Took me a while to realize that. Sarah is the luckiest of them all because she got to live life and now got a redo, while also knowing her past life, which I think is what most adults would want. Redoing life knowing what you know now.

My theory is, Jumanji doesn't wipe away the memories of Judy and Peter because it triggers their memories around the time they started playing, like they hear Alan Parrish's name, and the memories just wash over their minds.

I love this movie as it holds a special place in my childhood. Only as I grew I've come to appreciate it even more. I'm glad to have been able to enjoy it and keep on enjoying it. Also fun fact to many who may not know. Judy and Peter don't remember anything. There was a small picture book version of the movie adapted. In it, it has has a still picture, actual still footage, of the two opening the gifts. Inside are unique looking shoes with "Jumanji" written on it. They claim that the name is weird, making Sara and Alan realize that they don't remember anything.

@fallingawayfromthenorm8 күн бұрын
Speaking for myself, it’s a fun family friendly film and I really like the cast and story. If I want to watch people dying in films, I have plenty of horror movies and action films I’m a fan of that I could pop on instead, the lack of confirmed deaths in Jumanji (it’s entirely possible the people who were getting attacked by the mosquitos were dying off camera considering they needed immediately medical attention) doesn’t impact my enjoyment of this movie. I can respect that it isn’t a film for you and why.
@aaaagamedev35248 күн бұрын
Maybe try touching some grass once in a while, helps getting that "human" emotions normal people have. Maybe lead you to understand why people like this movie.
