Also, they're all just too damn heavy for the eagles - they can carry a man some short distance, yes, and hobbits and Gandalf the White (who Gwaihir said was "light as a feather") were ok, but the rest just weigh too much for long distance cross-continent flying journeys. I can't imagine them carrying either Boromir or Gimli very far without tiring.

Even though that didn't happen in the book, it is kind of significant, as no one else could ever really make a serious attempt to destroy the ring. Bilbo tries to throw the ring into his fireplace, but instead puts it back in his pocket. However, dwarves are naturally more resistant to magic and its influences, unlike elves and men.

In the book Frodo actually asked Gandalf about destroying the ring in his house. Gandalf actually gave Frodo a hammer and basically said "see what happens if you try to destroy it". Frodo ended up on his butt with the hammer on the ground, having no memory of even swinging the hammer at the ring.

Not really. Arwen isn't even there in the book. It's Glorfindel. They're just emphasizing that she's there to help and that she's important. Elves don't look like that in the shadow realm. You can clearly tell this when Frodo is stabbed. The Nazgul are white and glowing. Everything else is dark. When Aragorn jumps out to defend him, he's surrounded in black mist. Why would Aragorn be a shadow, the Nazgul glowing white and then Arwen even more glowing white? He's wearing the One Ring, not one of the Elvish rings.

In the book it says Frodo, passing into the Shadow Realm after being stabbed, sees Glorfindel as a glowing figure: 'To Frodo [when he first meets Glorfindel] it appeared that a white light was shining through the form and raiment of the rider, as if through a thin veil.' Frodo, talking about the fight at the ford: "I thought that I saw a white figure that shone and did not grow dim like the others. Was that Glorfindel then?" Gandalf: "Yes, you saw him for a moment as he is upon the other side: one of the mighty of the Firstborn." In the movie Jackson just replaced Glorfindel with Arwen

@@Rocket1377 It can enhance a story if it's meant to make a specific point about the time and culture you're writing about. But otherwise, it kind of limits and hinders the story. To be clear, allegory isn't just symbolism and parallels. You'll find that in pretty much everything, and it's everywhere in Lotr. Allegory is when you explicitly are making the story about something else. For instance, in C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, it's explicitly an allegory for Christianity, and reading it in any other way is actually inaccurate. By contrast, In Lotr, the deity/deities definitely parallel Catholicism, but they aren't explicitly allegorical, and are meant to be their own thing in the world of Middle-earth.

Venomous snakes and spiders, though admittedly, not as many as down under. Also large predators like mountain lions and the occasional bear and wolf. We've even had a Bull shark in the Mississippi river. Why the most aggressive shark needed the ability to survive in freshwater, I can't fathom. The weather can get to terrible 104°F (40°C) in summer with high humidity, and -40°F and C in the winter with high winds and blizzards. 😅 spring and fall are pretty nice though. 😂

In previous history there were only two unions of Elves and Men: Beren and Luthien, which Strider was singing about, and Tuor son of Huor and Idril Celebrindal of Gondolin, both thousands of years ago in the First Age of the world. The movie doesn't mention it, but in the book, Elrond tells Strider, "Arwen Undomiel shall not diminish her life's grace for less cause. Glad you chose to watch the extended editions rather than the theatrical cuts. The fact that there are SO many deleted scenes (seriously, return of the king has 50 mins of them) and they are all edited seamlessly into the film rather than being a separate deleted scene collection is just one of the things that make the extended editions so amazing. I hope Natascha doesn't think she is the first to wonder if the giant eagles could just drop the ring into the fire at Mount Doom. There are several good reasons for this. 1) The Eagles don't do someone's bidding just because they are asked. They saved Gandalf's life because he owes them a favor but they are certainly not his servants or his minions. 2) The Eagles are just as corruptible as anyone. If one of them had possession of the ring, he would not hesitate to take it for himself and try to wield its power. 3) The mission depends highly on secrecy. If some giant eagles flew toward Morder, Sauron would see them and wonder why. .He definitely has the resources to stop them and take the ring away from them.

Aragorn’s True name & and mission was a closely guarded secret so nobody besides people like Elrond and the remaining clans of the Dúnedain would know him and also keep his identity secret. Btw, the name Beren in inscribed on the memorial stone of Prof Tolkien, and Luthien is inscribed on the memorial of his wife. In Middle Earth, Luthien is the daughter of King Elu Thingol, king of the Sindar elves, and Melian, a person of the angelic race of the Maiar (other significant Maiar include Sauron, Gandalf, Saruman, and another found on the journey in Part 2 of this movie). The story of Beren and Luthien was important to Tolkien's overall sub-creation. Elrond Half-Elven, Arwen, and Aragorn are all descended from Beren and Luthien (they were Elrond's maternal great-grandparents, and Aragorn is descended from Elrond's twin brother, Elros, who chose to be human).

His heroic father(Eärendil) was half Vanyar elf and Elwing(Lùthien’s granddaughter) was full elf/quarter human due to her father being Dior(Son of Beren & Lúthien. The true title belongs to Eärendil, Eärendil Peredhel, Peredhel is just a way to honour his father whilst being sort of like a surname to know who his sire is. The title stranding back to Dior who was first half elf. But Eärendil is also a fully half elf in his own right too.

Yup, the Wizards are Maiar, timeless angelic beings already in existence and present at Creation, they are undying, although the bodies they "wear" while in Middle Earth are certainly mortal. And yes, might consider them "Angels", while the next rank up, the Valar (the actual Creators of Middle Earth), might be "Arcangels"). But keep in mind the Istari (Wizards) are "under orders", and their divine powers are somewhat "nerfed" while in Middle Earth - they are there to INSPIRE the Free Peoples to rise up and defeat Sauron, not to fight the battles themselves with their full powers. So the only times Gandalf gets to use his full powers in Middle Earth are when the opponent is an actual fallen Maia, as dark angel, if you will. So he can use his powers against Durin's Bane (the Balrog, who fell to Melkor / Morgoth during Creation), and then against the recently-fallen Saruman. If Gandalf had had to face off against Sauron (another fallen Maia, corrupted by Morgoth), he could have used his full powers. I'm not sure about the Witch King, though, I mean, he was a Man, corrupted by Sauron, so maybe maybe not (they never had a face-to-face in the books like they did in the movies).

When Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's hand, it was burning hot, and so Isildur was able to transcribe the inscription before it faded. He described it to be written in an elven-script of Eregion in a language that was not known to him. Gandalf first learned of the inscription when he read the account that Isildur had written before marching north to his death and the loss of the Ring. When Gandalf subsequently heated the ring that Bilbo Baggins had found and passed on to Frodo, the inscription appeared, leaving him in no doubt that it was the One Ring. They then realized his plans, removing the rings from their fingers. The inscription is in black speech. Twisted and cursed elvish and Adúnaic but prime black speech is twisted Elvish. “Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.” These words were disturbing to any Elves who heard them as well as made them gravely ill if it doesn’t kill you or make you go deranged first, as any words of that "Black Speech". When Gandalf recited them at the Council of Elrond, the sky darkened and the Elves trembled and covered their ears. This was the first time words of that language had been spoken in Rivendell. Roughly translated, these words mean: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.” At some point following the gifting of the rings, a verse was written and kept as part of the Elven-lore as a way to make sure everyone remains vigilant since he could always find other ways to interact with the world and deceive someone into toppling the entire world, what's left of it.: (Full poem inaction below) ☆"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. At 15:24, Bilbo did something that noone else had ever done, he willingly gave up the ring. Tolkien said he had taken less hurt from possessing the ring than any could have predicted, in part because he was a hobbit and was resilient, but mostly because he had started his possession of the ring years before with an act of mercy. It is sung by John Le Mesurier to a tune by Stephen Oliver. 1997: An Evening in Rivendell: The Tolkien Ensemble adapted an original melody to the song, composed by Caspar Reiff. 2001: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Parts of the song are sung by Gandalf in his first appearance, and also by Bilbo as he leaves Bag End. 2006: The Lord of the Rings Musical: The poem is the basis of the song "The Road Goes On" sung by Sam, Frodo, Merry, and Pippin in the first act. 2014: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies: Lines of the poem partially make up the lyrics of The Last Goodbye, performed by Billy Boyd(Pippin) for the credits of the film. Firstly: All 16 rings were meant to go to the elves ( which lead to 300-500years of his infiltration & deception down the drain.) but Mairon of the Maiar(primordial angelic beings in simple terms as they are sort of beyond angels) disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is. (A bit too instant in the movies though) Galadriel soon saw right through him and especially when after speaking with him regarding not remembering him when in Valinor long ago where she learned from all the Valar thanks to being dominantly Vanyar/Teleri side over her Noldorin side where she gleaned from that encounter that she did not study under Aulë the Vala with any elf named Annatar ! But later named Sauron by the elves meaning deceiver! After all of this, The three elven rings were made in secret without Saurons touch upon them thanks to Kelebrimbor! Remember Gandalf before he became Gandalf was the same species of entity Sauron used to be!! Wow hey? The Rings in this case, would have lost their powers eventually due to the lack of the One Ring and possibly because they were designed to defeat evil, & evil in the form of Sauron had been defeated twice already in the past. The Three Elven Rings served their purpose for a long time. Two out of three of them had several different bearers Unlike the other Rings, the main purpose of the Three is to "heal and preserve", as when Galadriel used Nenya to preserve her realm of Lothlórien over long periods. The Elves made the Three Rings to try to halt the passage of time, or as Tolkien had Elrond say, "to preserve all things unstained". I can expand upon this based on any further statements & questions you have for me as a reply to this comment ! ❤ There is problem here with the Rings, the Three were supposed to be never touched by Sauron and that's why they were not corrupting…Sauron had not taken part in their making which made the Three more 'pure' unsullied by his dark power, unlike the Nine and Seven Rings! But Sauron in the show touched the very material they were made of!!! So technically he could have tainted them and corrupted! Even appendices of Lot tell us the order of making the rings, so they didn't even need the righs to more detailed writings in UT or Silmarillion: 1200 Sauron endeavours to seduce the Eldar. Gil-galad refuses to treat with him; but the smiths of Eregion are won over. The Númenoreans begin to make permanent havens. c. 1500 The Elven-smiths instructed by Sauron reach the height of their skill. They begin the forging of the Rings of Power. c. 1590 The Three Rings are completed in Eregion. c. 1600 Sauron forges the One Ring in Orodruin. He completes the Barad-dûr. Kelebrimbor perceives the designs of Sauron. 1693 War of the Elves & Sauron begins. The Three Rings are hidden." 'Did you not hear me, Gloin?' said Elrond. So if Sauron is defeated then the three rings power will fade and basically become almost useless or diminished versions of their original design since by this era magic has bled from the world by a huge degree thanks to Morgoth’s poisoning the world itself with his very essence that he poured into it. Tolkien(the OG of all Authors) was a veteran of the First World War and many other battles such as The Battle Of Somme etc. his works of art were to give back to the England as a form of restoring lost mythologies that he himself was a master of since he was a top professor of philology at Oxford. He did ALOT of his writing while in the trenches during WWI during small “breaks” while down in those trench forts built into the ground. And while he eldest son was in the Second World War; his Lord Of The Rings writings was strictly created above all else to give his eldest something to read while stationed wherever he was stationed. I forgot that part. They sent letters back and forth about it all the time. He was also the one and only son that actually protected his fathers legacy and work. A lot of his other work were put together BY his son after his father passed away. It’s well worth to react to the documentary behind the scenes film the director and crew and cast created together as well as the interview with the son Christopher Tolkien who you get to sort of enjoy a nice indoor and outdoor chat for like what came to about 1-2 hours of wonderful footage from an era that really must not be forgotten. His work shed a light on things like The Finnish Kalevala, Norwegian Elder Edda, The Welsh Mabinogion, The Norwegian Nibelungen, The Indian Bhagvagita & Several Irish Folklore + other Cultural things! The man also restored and translated ancient relics for the governments as one everyone trusted. Much of what’s in our dictionary come from his efforts as well. Anytime he spoke & even posted several comments into the paper as an editorial or response to certain issues as a very involved man for the world and the environment everyone turned their head to listen to him as everyone knew his worth and respected him greatly. His works show how NOT to glorify war; shows in the films if you pay close attention while watching the next films. Sharing what you know now via the after thoughts at the end of the second film! Remember. Extended edition. There is a lot missed out on especially in the second movie regarding Boromir backstory which there is much more in the books but the films WANTED to keep more but the cinemas literally harangued him into making a “theatrical cut” which is why you have two versions. The real version and the “theatrical cut”. It was all to make more money for the company that is the theatres/cinemas. To get more showings in per day during the year. And believe me. People were camping outside and travelling the country to watch it MORE THAN ONCE. His creations literally lead to inspiring the most currently famous books games & movies we all literally wouldn’t have enjoyed and be touched to our souls core without him and his spiritually connected brilliance. That and he was a philologist professor at Oxford first and foremost which covers so many things. Not just linguistic. The man was a true genius and Jack of all trades but ultimately LOVED the simple life. The inspiration for Lord of the Rings was not any war, but author J.R.R. Tolkien's love of language. Especially Welsh, Finnish and Old English. He lamented the loss of any true English folklore, that was wiped out after the Norman invasion of 1066, so Tolkien wrote many books on these new "legends" he came up with himself. Much of which is centered around three languages he fully developed himself. Two Elven languages and Dwarvish. They all have alphabets, syntax and vocabularies and can be learned. Tolkien did draw upon his personal experience in the trenches of World War ONE, not Two, as inspiration for some parts, most notably, the Dead Marshes that Frodo and Sam and Gollum pass through in The Two Towers. But war was not the inspiration for the entire series. World Of Warcraft. Skyrim, Harry Potter, Diablo, D&D, even Warhammer and so forth wouldn’t have. Existed without taking inspiration from and or completely ripping off from Tolkien. At 48:55 you ask, "Are the Elves quite tall, like taller than humans?" In general they are. Tolkien's writings equate tallness with virtue; it's one reason the Elves (literally) look down on the Dwarves. I believe Tolkien envisioned Elves as averaging around 6'8" or so. This would make casting elven extras pretty hard for Peter Jackson & Co., but they wanted their Elves to be well over six feet. Aragorn and Boromir are both tall Men, height not otherwise specified.

Well. there is some on Aragorn's height, as a pure Dunedin, he inherits the height as well and "should" be (or so I've read) closer to 7' tall. I mean, mad respect to Viggo and all, but he's just too damn short to be Aragorn. Boromir was said to be somewhat shorted and broader than Aragorn, but as near-pure Numenorean blood himself, should have been well over 6'.

Aragorn and Boromir both have specific heights, Aragorn is 6’6 and Boromir is 6’4. Legolas is far shorter at around 6’. Elves were not envisioned to be 6’8, specific elves were far taller but Teleri like Legolas weren’t all that special.

Elrond has full hope in mankind. Especially the Númenoreans remaining in Gondor and the far North where the Dúnedain rangers and chieftains of said rangers. Aragorn is the main chieftain. Elros was the first king of Númenor who was Elronds twin brother. Tar- Minyatur: meaning "High first-ruler" in Quenya, consisting of tar ("high") + minya ("first") + tur ("master, lord"). All the Kings and Queens after Elros also used the prefix Tar- in their royal titles in the Scroll of Kings. Aragorn directly descends from Elros through Isildur into Arvedui and so forth. Gondor hasn’t had a king in over 1000 years.

I love how inspirational Tolkien's work was for the entire genre of fantasy. I always viewed it, not that people stole from him, but that he's the father of it all. The same level of awe and inspiration and appreciation that learning about Tolkien brings you now is very similar to what it was like for me to discover the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov, the father of all modern scifi. I hope one day we get movies to do the full Foundation Trilogy in all its glory and they do justice to the books just like the LotR movies. (commenting on your video as I watch it, I feel like I'll have a lot to say, this is a great review, I love getting to see you re-experience it as an adult, and enjoy it so much.)

The magic here is actually just requesting the elements help. Arwen asks the river, which is the border of the Elven realm of Imladris(Rivendell in Westron/modern human tongue), of which the darkness fears, for its help, Saruman asks the mountain to wake up and stop the fellowship, Gandalf asks the mountain to go back sleep and be at peace. It’s authority based and the type of relationship you have with the world around you. All waters in middle earth are connected to one of the 7 Valar who sang the world into being long ago named Ulmo and this is another main reason why they are afraid and he had huge influence and connection to their now sunken island continent of Númenor. That and the water reflected + echoed the first song of that creation(The Ainulindalë) which is why they cannot stand it. Magic here is is authority based, not simple latin based incantations, like Harry Potter (JKR a genius in her own right though); or Game of thrones, just two of the stories highly influenced by JRR Tolkien's scholarly works. Even Diablo, D&D and WORLD of WARCRAFT was heavily influenced by Tolkien. Even EldenRing Bloodborne, and DemonSouls/DarkSouls but those ones took major inspiration from the folklore and mythologies of our own world which is Arda/Eä(our Midgard). Just like professor and WW1 veteran Tolkien himself ❤ which is why they are beloved games. They have great depth!

At 40:25 you say, "That is the woman he was talking about before." You're close. Strider was singing about Luthien Tinuviel, the Elf-maiden who gave her love to Beren, a mortal Man, back in the First Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years ago. Their offspring gave rise to Elrond, Isildur and the Kings of the Dunedain, and Strider himself. Beren met Luthien in exactly the same way as Strider first met Arwen.

Seeing British people get turned on to Tolkien makes me happy in a way I can't explain. And, yes, pretty much all MODERN popular fiction lifts heavily from his writing, but usually only in aesthetic ways. Tolkien, in turn, lifted heavily from Beowulf, the Arthurian legends, Biblical writings and other sacred Christian legends as well as many other specifically medieval stories. So people steal his tropes and aesthetics, but no one really writes he did. Also, I've got good news: You're just going to keep loving Sam more and more. As one should.

First off, you make a most lovely elf. 🙂 I first heard this story when I was a kid, ten years old back in 1978, when my dad (a huge fan of Tolkien) read The Lord of the Rings to my little sister and I as a bedtime story for a year or so. My sister, being six, went to sleep quickly, but I was enthralled and stayed awake most every night until dad was done reading, and then I dreamed of exploring Middle Earth and taking part in adventures there. While the movies diverge from the books and leave quite a bit out while altering other things for ease of presentation (otherwise the movies would each be thirteen hours long instead of three and change) they are brilliantly and wonderfully done. A complete masterclass in all aspects of movie making. I never get tired of watching them. The actors all deserve immense respect for their dedication to the craft. Viggo Mortensen especially went to the max in becoming Aragorn, all but living every moment of his day in Aragorn's kit so that he grew used to it and could move as freely and effortlessly in it as he could his regular clothes. This is why he seems so very comfortable in his kit on screen, because he was. It adds so much verisimilitude to his character. And Sean Astin as the ever loyal Sam was just perfect too. Extra props to the craftspeople in charge of all the physical FX. Making all the orc, goblin, and Uruk-hai outfits to scare the snot out of the unprepared seeing their hideousness for the first time. It requires so much dedication and so much hard work to make all these individual pieces to give so many individual looks for each of these evil creatures. So bloody brilliant. To be fair its not entirely Isildur's fault he didn't throw the ring in. The Ring's influence is at its greatest when its that close to its source. Its so strong that nothing can resist it and willingly cast it into the fire, Elrond himself would have walked out with it too.

I love these films they really are part of a cultural zeitgeist at this point, I think you choose a great trilogy to start your channel on. Also the reason everyone stole from tolkien is because much of his work was inspired by a varity of historical influences including Norse and and Germanic folklore mixed with a bit of Christian influences as well as other sources, definitely looking forward to the rest of theese. Also 10/10 on the cosplay, you did a great job in my opinion.

He didn’t mix Christian stuff into it he hated allegory ontop of the fact it was the Norman war that destroyed the Anglo Saxon culture to a huge degree which was a crusade of sorts which lead to this culture he used all 25 of his books to recreate and revive ancient knowledge! Especially on Anglo Saxon and olde English cultures/mythologies and so forth. Whilst shedding a light on the Finnish Kalevala(more than one) and the Welsh Mabinogion etc. ❤

English Greyhound catching up on the older videos and I love them… Tolkien is the grandfather of modern fantasy and he took things from old medieval folklore and wrote his own story around it while writing this in the middle of World War II. He wrote The Hobbit which was a relatively short light hearted fantasy story before this. The publisher wanted a sequel and after approximately ten years he came back with a 1200 plus page manuscript that was less lighthearted and far darker. They decided to split it into three novels. These novels created the epic fantasy universe culture that almost every other fantasy universe has emulated to this day. You can never be a Hobbit, far too slender and ethereal. Definitely a elve.

I still think they could have incorporated them both in the scenes somehow and included the other important stuff that went on in that forest meeting Glorfindel and his company of elves)- he’s over 2,000 (although he had been re-embodied after dying in the First Age which means his Fëa {spirit} is far older than 2000.) 5. Thranduil - over 8000, (as he was born in the First Age and lived in Doriath with his father Oropher; Thranduil is also the father of Legolas. (As Haldir mentioned him when speaking to Legolas in Lothlòrien during the first movie’s extended scene. He shares the same kindred elven clan as to Celeborn(Galadriel’s husband). It's worth noting that Elves could choose to die voluntarily, usually when they grew weary of life or when they had fulfilled their purpose in the world. However, their spirits would then depart to the Halls of Mandos and could eventually be re-embodied in a new body I meant to add that Frodo was 51 when he left due to the whole Gandalf coming back to the shire after many years. that explains why his youthful appearance didn’t change much throughout the entire film!

All of the rings were "rings of power". The more powerful the wearer, the more they would be affected by them, especially the One Ring. Hobbits being the least powerful, and the least interested in power, could therefore carry Sauron's ring the longest without being corrupted by it. But it even attracts evil and the corruptible from a distance. Being lost in a river or with Gollum in a cave in the mountains is why it wasn't found for so long. I truly believe you have elf in your DNA! Great cosplay! Tolkien himself said he didn’t invent medieval fantasy, just rediscovered it. The world building in his stories is off the charts. He did the maps himself and made languages and their alphabets for multiple races and cultures. The history of middle earth (The Silmailion) reads more like a text book than novel, and given he was an Oxford English professor that kinda makes sense. Sadly he passed away before he fully finished the Silmarillion. The task to finish it fell to his son Christopher Tolkien who had it published. Also props to you for watching the extended versions!

He found it amusing even though he’s a big Tolkien scholar who reads the books multiple times a year and met Tolkien more than once and Tolkien himself said if they were to do a proper adaptation that he wanted Christopher Lee to play as Gandalf or Saruman. ❤

I felt the same way that you do about moths until I was 14 years old and my family and I went on a cross-country trip. At one point we stopped at a place called Devil's Tower and when night came it was a moth breeding Frenzy and we were literally walking through an endless cloud of moths slapping against us Non-Stop. There were so many that you couldn't even see the lights any more because they were blocking it all . Funnily enough after all of that it seems to have served as exposure therapy and I didn't fear moths anymore.

47:01 In a weird way LOTR is both monotheistic and polytheistic, there is a single God(Eru) from whom all things are created or drawn from but he created lesser beings to shape creation these can both be considered gods or archangels(Ainur or Valar in universe) but then they also had helpers whom were actually angels(Maiar, Sauron and the wizards are these). The firstborn children(Elves) can hear the song of the Ainur thus allowing them to act in accordance with creation however the secondborn children(men, hobbits) can't thus giving them true free will and the dwarves are not originally of Eru's creation but of a Valar whom grew impatient however after being scolded by Eru the Valar went to destroy his creation as apology but Eru breathed life into the dwarves and adopted them as his own but bade them sleep until after the firstborn children awoke(this is why dwarves and elves seem not to get along sometimes).

He wasn’t scolded. Eru isn’t some sort of Enlil figure. He was simply pointing out he was getting ahead of the song of creation which creates preordained events that be set to occur such as this one. He was one of the main reasons dwarves are resistant to Sauron and the 7 rings. It didn’t effect them at all thanks to the dwarven forefathers being created from the hands of Aulë himself + life breathed into them and set to wake up at a later time by Eru Îlluvatar.

Way older. Gandalf (Olórin) is the same species of being as the Balrogs/Sauron before twisted by Melkor[Morgoth]. They are all Maiar (primordial spirits) created by Eru’s Thought (extensions of Eru Îlluvatar himself whilst they had their own free will & individuality. He essentially got the chance to experience and study other parts of himself through this.) among the other Ainur before the Years of the Lamps roughly 9,000+ years before arriving in Middle-earth; In Valinor he was known as Olórin.(Remember though he formally existed before the world existed and his form becoming Gandalf hadn’t happened yet. He was sent to Middle-earth in human form around the year 1000 of the Third Age. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ So his many forms had different ages in length of existing. He’s very cool right! These lamps are what were before even the two trees. These were Giant mountains but also like light houses but housing a great power but it may have also been where two special Maia lived that helped in the creation in the sun and moon after Melkor With eldrich terror Ungoliant killed the trees, so yea “Arien” is the Maia who basically exists with the sun and her brother and or lover of sorts is the one who wanders with and guides the moon. Arise, waters of Bruinen, against Ulair.” Hitlaeglir is translated from Sindarin as “misty mountains” (Misty Mountains). Bruinen is the name of the river. Ulairs - this is what the elves called the Nazgul (Ring Bearers). P.S. Also, please note that in the book, it was not Arwen who foamed the water in the river, but Elrond and Gandalf. And the water horses that we see in the film are the work of Gandalf. Personally, I think that the film slightly overestimates the abilities of an ordinary elf. Elrond is one of the wisest elves of Middle-earth, Gandalf is a Maiar, a younger angel. Who is Arwen? Although, at the same time, one cannot help but pay tribute to the director, who was not lazy and composed this appeal to the waters in accordance with all the rules of Sindarin.
