Tracy wrote this and sang it in the 80's. Luke loves this song and covered it not too long ago. Tracy kind of became a recluse and wasn't seen for many years. They asked her to come sing with Luke on the Grammy's and she did. You can see the happiness in her smile.
@keetahbrough
@keetahbrough 4 ай бұрын
Tracy is not a recluse lolol.. she just made a conscious decision over 15 years ago, that the commercial world was not the best place for her. If she came back, she could sell out entire venues because this song is not the only great song she has. xo

She asked Luke to sing with her at the grammies, Luke agreed (obviously thrilled). Singing with Luke was her idea, not the grammies.

Lol Tracy is an Icon from the late 80s early 90s who chose peace over fame and riches. She's an amazing singer/songwriter. Luke just introduced a new generation to her great music

Tracy Chapman wrote this masterpiece . This is on her debut album. You could pull any track off of the album and it would be good.

I'm glad you like the song. It's sad you know so little about it. I would suggest you know more about the songs you react to but then, that may be your thing! This song is iconic and has a great backstory. Luke just remade it and apparently she held out on the rights for years. As someone who remembers the era it was made, let me say, this performance has all the feels. It takes you back, driving and singing and Tracy! Where has she been?! Her face is so full of happiness, love and peace. He does a good job too. What you just witnessed was an iconic grammy performance for the ages!

Do your homework... In the 1960s, Charley Pride became country music's first Black superstar, lending his warm baritone to music that captivated audiences and led him to a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Legend!

This was Tracy Chapman's song in the 80's and Luke Combs who is a country singer recirded it again. Tracy Chapman is not a country artist but they sound so good together. It was an amazing song and continues to he. It stands the test of time ❤

Your ignorance about the origin of this song & how you made fun of Tracy's appearance insulted me. Don't market yourself as a Christian if you're going to be close minded and stereotype people. Shame on you to judge your own ancestry in such a narrow minded fashion. Tracy Chapman is an icon! Give her the respect she is due.

I literally cringed when they questioned if Tracy was a male or female. They should have already known, unless it was a deliberate dig at her appearance.

Tracy Chapman is a Folk Singer and released her first album in 1988. She sang Fast Cars at Nelson Mandela’s birthday tribute because she needed to give Stevie Wonder more time to fix a technical issue. The song and album took off. Luke Combs covered the song and has brought Tracy to a whole new audience! She won 3 Grammy awards for her album in 1988. In 2023 she won a CMA for Song of the Year. The only black person to do that!! Tracy is Amazing you should check out more of her music.

ALL of Tracy's songs are AMAZING!! Still love her so much! This official recording from the Grammys got over 5 MILLION views so far! Luke said it was his favorite song since her was a child, and his dad would play her songs on cassette and they would drive in his dad's F150! He loves her and her song so much, his cover of it went to #1 as did the original. He is so grateful to her, it's so sweet! This duet and love is what we NEED in this country!

Tracy Chapman wrote this and released it in the 80's. It was a huge song. At least in my opinion. The singer on stage is Tracy Chapman. She wasn't country. She was more along the lines of folk music, but was considered modern or pop/rock. Luke combs loves this song. He covered and released the song. It ignited a new love for her music. They then did the performance.

Tracy Chapman wrote the song and has full songwriting credit. Therefore, all royalties go to her alone. It is NOT a country song. It’s a folk pop song - listen to the original it’s a her face, a guitar, a drum, and her voice. Her face is all you see in the shadows. It’s an iconic video and song.

Country music was derived from the old folk music of Europe and the rhythmic music from Africa. The fiddle came from Europe mainly the British Isles and the banjo from Africa that ultimately grew into gospel then the blues. Both genres were influenced by the other

This song isnt meant necessarily for a duet. She wrote in like the early 90s. Hearing just her sing it and hearing it all the way threw hits different. It tells a story that goes all the way through their lives together and about a cycle that repeats itself by the end. The chorus changes meaning throughout the song. One of the best written songs of all time.

the song was of the Folk Genre when it was first released by Chapman, an openly Queer Black Woman, back then when you heard stuff you weren't as taken into the personal status of artists (well there were and are still bigots who would hate for hate's sake), me i didn't know her status back then and frankly i wouldn't have cared, none of my biz. when you have Queen with Freddie Mercury, Boy George, Cyndie Lauper and all the flamboyant people in that era nobody who was into music for its sake cared. me' i spent my record money on rap records, Sugar Hill Gang, UTFO Run DMC and the like, but i still listened to all kinds of music. a good song is a good song, the genre doesn't so much matter. Big and Rich stated we should "let go of all your preconceived notions" i think this is great advice, especially in the world of today where things that are so little can become so ugly so fast.

I have a country music request for you. You may find this one interesting. It's a little song that Dolly Parton wrote for her singing partner and boss Porter Wagner. Check out Dolly Parton "I Will Always Love You!" 1974. She performs it live on the Porter Wagner Show, whom she fulfilled her contract with to move onto her solo career. She wrote it as a departing song for him. I think you will like it and it will get you a lot of views as a reaction video.

So Jesus answered them, "Do not grumble among yourselves. Nobody comes to me unless he is drawn to me by the Father who sent me, and I will raise him up when the last day comes. In the prophets it is written -'And they shall all be taught by God,' and this means that everybody who has heard the Father's voice and learned from him will come to me. Not that anyone has ever seen the Father except the one who comes from God - he has seen the Father. I assure you that the man who trusts in him has eternal life already. I myself am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate manna in the desert, and they died. This is bread that comes down from Heaven, so that a man may eat it and not die. I myself am the living bread which came down from Heaven, and if anyone eats this bread he will live for ever. The bread which I will give is my body and I shall give it for the life of the world."
