I am 24 years old and speak English as a third language. When I first saw this movie, particularly this scene(s), I was rolling on the floor laughing. The misunderstandings due to Pilatus' (and Biggus') speech impediments are so hilarious, I couldn't breathe anymore (-> "The young wascal has spiwit" "Has what, sir?" "Spiwit" "Yes, he did" -> pure gold). Watching you two watching this makes me wonder if we have seen the same material - but what worries me the most, is that people who are natively English speaking cannot understand English, let alone a humor that is deeply rooted in the English language. I understand pretty much every single word in this film (except for those that shouldn't be understood) and believe that this is a textbook example of wonderful English humour. If you don't find this funny, I seriously and worryingly wonder what the two of you do find entertaining. But please, learn your language - it's all you have. It's not like this is the deepest Cockney, Isle of Islay or Essex slang - this is plain British English, and it frightens me to see that me, who is Swedish (and speak Hungarian due to my grandmother), have to explain English things to English speaking people. I really have to take a breather now...

You're partly right They're mainly laughing because both Biggus Dikkus and Cesar have speech impediments One pronounces his R's like W's and the other pronounces W's like R's
@stoneg.barrow99913 жыл бұрын
Actually, you're partly correct: Pontius Pilate appears to pronounce his "R"s like "W"s; and Biggus Dickus appears to have a rather pronounced lisp. It lends an entirely different sort of meaning to the provenantial nature of the tumult brewing amongst the people of Judæa during that particular Passover celebration in Jerusalem in 33; 33, that is: not 1933. The speech impediment debacle apparently extant amongst the local Prefecture appears to provide the preëminent source of Roman-Ruled Risibility that year amongst the Jewish Jokesters in the Julian Judæan Jerusalemite Jocular Jaganatic Jamboree; if you will. We self segregate naturally, and reach across lines to better coexist in larger groups that may differ. Behavior cannot truly be understood through language.
