Always loved the actor that played the judge Fred Gwynne. He was Herman Munster "Frankenstein" in a sitcom that ran from September 24, 1964 to May 12, 1966. It was called the Munsters. He died a year later after his role in My Cousin Vinny

... and before that he was introduced in a weekly tv comedy series calleld "Car 54 Where are You?" in which he co-starred as a cop, officer Francis Muldoon. I remember it well - it was hilarious. Another member of that cast was Al Lewis, who also moved on to "The Munsters" and played Grandpa.

The courtroom scenes are actually quite accurate and have been shown to law students as a representation of correct criminal procedure and trial strategy. Also, as others will tell you, Marissa Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. I'm impressed that you recognize that this movie is deserving of high accolades instead of just enjoying it for the wonderful comedy that it is. Most don't really get that. Thanks!

You notice that Vinny sleeps just fine, like a baby, in prison. Because, the joke here is that an Alabama prison sounds like a normal night in Brooklyn. So the curse has been lifted.

I think in prison while the background noise level was loud, it was STEADY. Having it dead-quiet and then a sudden loud noise was the problem Vinnie was facing.

What's interesting in this movie is that really isn't a bad guy (other than the actual murderers). The police thought they caught the murderer. There is certainly bias and it's a small town so they were personally invested but at the end of the day, they were happy that justice prevailed.

An underrated classic. I, especially, love that there are no, real, bad guys in this film. Aside from the ones who actually committed the murder. The prosecuting attorney was just doing his job like he was supposed to and played fairly, and dismissed the case as soon as it was clear the kids were innocent. The judge was a hardass but still, mostly, fair. Can't blame him for losing patience with Vinny. And the witnesses weren't malicious, just incorrect in their recollection. It's rare to have a film where there is high stakes conflict with no villain.

Somebody already mentioned this subject, but real trial lawyers love this movie, and I have heard that some law professors even use it as a teaching tool, because this movie is more true to the actuals rules of evidence and trial procedural rules than any movie we know of. I mean, they made it all funny, but the only real thing they changed a lot was how quickly the case went from arraignment to trial. No case goes to trial the week after arraignment. But other than that it was almost perfect.

Marisa Tomei technically was in at least one “mob” movie. She played the daughter of Sylvester Stallone, who was a mob boss who was trying to turn legit. It also has Tim Curry in it. If you end up watching it as a reaction or just on your own, just keep in mind that you’re not supposed to take it seriously. It’s 100% a comedy! The movie is called Oscar and it’s kind of like My Cousin Vinny in a way… It has a series of misunderstandings that just don’t seem to stop. It wasn’t a popular movie by any means, which is probably why if you do watch it, maybe just watch it on your own. But it was a really cute and fun movie to watch and I think they did a really good job with it. I’m glad you enjoyed this movie! Great reaction. 💙💙💙

The thing i love about this film.. There is no villain.. No bad guy. Usually they would paint the opposing lawyer as greedy or ambitious.. The cop as corrupt. the judge as biased. But in this the entire film is just made up of people all trying to do the right thing. Even the judge who is hard nosed and doesn't take BS is just that.. Hard nosed. But not evil. He just expects people to follow the law to the letter.

16:50 that was an accident that they left in the movie. 19:01 he beat him up by surprising him with a sucker punch and by throwing his whole body into the punch. 22:24 the funny thing is he got the best night sleep in jail then he did out of jail. Mail reminded him of the city noise back home. Nice ambient noise and it made him more aware the next day. My favorite parts of the movie is in court when he says “Two Youts”, when Mona Lisa takes the stand and the whole messing with the judge on what his name really is.
