It was more than 'fixing' the children. It's about fixing the FAMILY, communication, structure, discipline and understanding is what they lacked. She just gave a few rules and was a shoulder of structure that they needed.

This movie was and still is one of the most beloved British movies ever, you won't find a single household in the UK that hasn't seen it at least 5 times. And the second movie too 😭

Lmaooooo I can't tell you how happy this comment just made me. I have wanted to name my daughter Evangeline ever since I was a kid when this came out. I have never known what I wanted as the middle name, I would change it every few months. Recently, I started watching House of the Dragon where one of the princess's name is Helaena. This reminded me one of my two great-aunt Helen's real name is Helene (German, pronounced Heleena). Then the other aunt Helen got sick and nearly died, and when she was in the hospital I decided the middle name for Evangeline could be Helaena for both my aunts.(Heleena doesn't sound right with Evangeline, and yes I do know what happens to the princess in HotD). Well my aunt got better but I decided I sti really like Evangeline Helaena. All this time...all these years...I never realized it was the same actor who played Helena Ravenclaw which I always pronounced as Helaena in my head. Well now I'm having a baby next year so I might have my Evangeline after all!

❤ LOVE Nanny Macfee! (She's Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter. The cook is Professor Umbridge.) You'll learn how beautiful Nanny MacFee really is. There are 2 Nanny McFee movies. Simon was Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones.

I love how obvious the faking sick was. Peak kid comedy. I got the idea when I was a kid that being stuck at home sick meant I shouldn't be out of bed, shouldn't have anything but soup, and shouldn't enjoy myself, or I might as well be faking. Even when a spoonful of ice cream would feel wonderful for a sore throat, a walk might feel good, or video games/tv would be fun. It carried on into adulthood to the point where I was punishing myself for being sick. And forget about mental health days. My point is, when children feel ill, they need to feel better and stay away from others. They don't also need to be bored or punished. Humans self-limit on activities that make them feel worse. A kid with a headache doesn't need to be told not to stare at a screen; it hurts.

Actually it's really hitting right now that Nanny McPhee is a fantasy for parents - the magical power to teach their children, plus of course good lessons for the parents too.

The actor who played the ringleader (redheaded boy) was 15 at time of filming. He always looks so much younger than he is. He's in his 30s now and still looks like a teenager.

This movie is one of my personal favorites! It's a shame they never made a third film in the series, it would have been interesting to see what Nanny Mcphee would teach to children in modern day London. Also, the movie's bloopers are hilarious, especially when Colin Firth pulls a prank on the kids and Imelda Staunton!

Not only are there quite a few Harry Potter actors with Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhee also Professor Trelawnwy) Kelly Macdonald (Evangeline also the Grey Lady) and Imelda Staunton (Mrs. Blatherwick the cook also Umbridge), Thompson and Macdonald also played mother and daughter in Brave as Queen Elinor and Princess Merida!

Emma Thompson is my favourite actress, she's just magnificent in everything she does. Some of my favourite movies of her are definitely Saving Mr Banks (sadly I have barely seen any movie reactions to it, it doesn't seem to be too well known, which is sad bc imo it's truly incredible. Especially interesting since you said you're quite familiar with Mary Poppins, since it's the story behind the author of the Mary Poppins books and how Walt Disney wanted to adapt it into a movie, sounds kind of boring but it really is a magnificent film with a lot of deep morals that I know you'd appreciate), Late Night (who doesn't want to see Emma as a TalkShow host in a comedy drama, I mean come on) and special gems like this where Emma is both acting and has written the screenplay - like here in Nanny McPhee and Sense & Sensibility (no idea how familiar you are with Jane Auten and her novels but it's a beautiful adaption, probably my favourite period drama of all time right next to 2005's Pride & Prejudice)

Angela Lansbury's Aunt Adelaide is a full circle return to an antagonistic character. She played Mrs. Lovette on the stage version of Sweeney Todd. Aunt Selma reminds me of Joanna Lumley's Aunt Spiker (James and the Giant Peach). Can 6ou please review the sequel too? I once had a guy compare me to Nanny McPhee (before her transformation) and would call me thusly.

Oh my god, I remember when this movie came out in the states, I remember seeing the poster for it out front in the lobby. I was 6 years old, and I remember watching it at a friend’s house for movie night when I was like 8 or 9, but I haven’t seen it in full since then. I do remember seeing the sequel to it in theaters when I was 11 years old with my younger sister. Crazily underrated film, it still holds up as a movie nearly 20 years later. All those kids are grown now. The twin baby girls who played Baby Aggie (Hebe and Zinnia Barnes) are now 19, and they will turn 20 later this year. However, sadly, out of all of them, Raphael Coleman is no longer with us. I’d best describe this movie as “Mary Poppins, if it were directed by Tim Burton”. Hope we get a Criterion release of it over here!
