Because the nobility weren't out in the sun all the time, their skin was white, so you could see the blue veins under their skin - so - blue bloods.

Just think: Tristan would probably have blue blood (or maybe purple blood?) if he got cut within Stormhold, the same way Yvaine is a person in Stormhold but stardust in the human world.

@@chelseashurmantine8153 no Catherine is correct. And they're also not human. The book explains it more but they're an Elf like species. So Tristan was only half human. The book makes a big deal about why he's such an outsider in the town and it's because of his appearance (he has slightly pointy ears amongst other things).

"Why would you want to be reminded that you're the seventh brother?" A lot of folklore, particularly the British and Irish folklore that likely inspired Gaiman, actually revolves around the seventh son, or the seventh son of a seventh son, being lucky or gifted in some way. So Septimus being the seventh is actually a good thing in his eyes, likely why he is so ruthless about getting the throne.

I always read the heartbreak over misunderstanding scene as Tristan giving a pretty explicit message for the guy to give Yvaine, but hurried off before realizing the guy was still half-asleep or hung over, which led to him misremembering and giving the jumbled version to Yvaine.

As mentioned, the blue blood is because of the whole "royalty has blue blood" thing, but it's also because (the book makes this a bit more clear) the royals seen here are royals of Faerie, not our mortal world. In fact, most of the movie takes place in Faerie (the land beyond the Wall).

People say that Travis Bickle and Jake LaMotta are Robert De Niro's most memorable and iconic roles. True galaxy-brains know that the real answer is Captain Shakespeare. Joking aside, Stardust is one of my favourite fantasy films, I've been a fan of it since I was a child and I still really enjoy it. The entire cast is phenomenal, from screen legends like De Niro and Pfeiffer to relative up-and-comers like Mark Strong, even people who are only onscreen for mere minutes like Peter O'Toole (the old king) make the most of their time. The script offers a nice balance of cheesy romance, old-fashioned swashbuckling action scenes and genuinely brilliant comedic moments, to the point where I'm semi-tempted to call it the modern equivalent of The Princess Bride. And then there's the score, which just absolutely slaps, as does the song that plays over the end credits. It's honestly worth putting up with the dated effects and wonky dialogue to get something as unabashedly fun and enjoyable as this. Also, fun fact: Nathaniel Parker, the actor playing the older version of Dunstan, was later cast in the third Narnia film, this time as the *father* of Ben Barnes' character

Yes, this is such an underrated movie. I love how it shows the importance of real love compared with infatuation. Tristan merely thinks that he's in love with Victoria, who strings him along while being engaged to another man. He has true chemistry with Yvaine, who goes on the quest with him.

I love this movie! It's a rare case where I prefer the adaptation over the book 😂 it feels to me very much like the 2000s very own Princess Bride. it's fun fantasy, campy, romantic, leaning into the mid-level special effects, etc. it's a great comfort watch. I also love how you immediately know it's from 2007 without that being a bad thing. it's a product of its time and to me that's why it's got a timeless vibe to it

Easily one of the most underrated fantasy film and it’s even more crazy to realize especially rewatching it the 2nd time that not only was the original book by Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Coraline, the Sandman), but the actor who played Tristan is Matt Murdock/Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox and the director for this movie was the same director who would go on to do _X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass_ and especially _The Kingsman_ films, Matthew Vaughn. Also I think the film and the book it was based are equally as good, but one noticeable difference is that compared to the original book in which the Sky Pirates appeared in which they picked up Tristan and Yvaine and dropped them off a chapter or two later, their roles were expanded in the film in which Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) befriends them and provides Tristan and Yvaine with new clothes, while also teaching Tristan how to fence and Yvaine how to dance. Lastly, much like Giancarlo Esposito and Ben Mendelsohn, Michelle Pfeiffer is born to portray villainous characters in every film she’s in, with her role as Lamia being one of her signature ones next to her roles as Catwoman in _Batman Returns_ and Eris in _Sinbad_

I've always loved this movie and I still do... I feel like it has such a beautiful and wholesome message (although there are some severe misunderstandings). Sadly nowadays they don't make movies like this anymore. Personally I feel like tha main characters had checmistry. Especially given the fact Tristan and Victoria had not and I guess his journey included learning about what love really is (making sacrifices for the person you love). I agree that maybe they could have done better with special effects but I don't really mind. Oh, and about the blood. I got it after waching it like fot the 5th time or so but since he was royal his blood was supposed to be blue (adding to the fairy tale vibe) but I guess they also didn't want to show actual blood :D. For me it was always the more I watched the more details I caught. But I fully understand why you maybe don't like it as much now. Sometimes when I watch movies I really loved in the past I have the same. Maybe because my mindset changed too.

I loove this movie and the story. Corrected me if I'm wrong, but I think that in the book Una being an slave can't age (slave for eternity and all that) that's the reason she's so easily recognized by his brother and is the same actress. Also the "humans" could cross the wall and go to that town, so that explains why they're all at the coronation.

Not gonna lie, I only really watch this film for Michelle Pfeiffer. I love watching her play badass villains like Lamia, Velma from Hairspray, her most iconic role as Catwoman from Batman Returns, and Maleficent Mistress of Evil! As much as I love fantasy films and not to say this movie is bad, I just was never super invested except for the witches and also the pirates. I also do like Yvaine. I think why I'm not a big fan is because I don't particularly like Tristan. He kinda treated Yvaine like shit and I also felt like his reaction to meeting his mother was very meh like he didn't really care. Maybe it's different in the book. That being said, it is a fun movie and I like everything else about it. I just don't particularly care for the main character. Probably an unpopular opinion.

It is a bit of a surprise on rewatch! I definitely recommend the book as well, or pretty much anything written by Neil Gaiman

I had never seen this until about 2016, when a close friend was sleeping over and wanted to watch it. And I fucking LOVED it. It gives me all the feels and is such a comfort film to me now. Such an underrated film.

I used to watch this movie a lot when I was younger but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen it that I’ve forgotten some parts of the movie and that it did have a pretty awesome cast in it. Although what I do remember the most is Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance like she’s so amazing at playing a villain that is to hard not to see her as anything but a baddie and honestly she was favourite character throughout the movie😁thanks Sophia for reacting a underrated gem really and can’t wait to see what you do next 😊😄😄❤️❤️❤️ ps I really love your look 😉💙💙💙

This is one of my favorite movies and short novels. The book is a bit more gruesome; but the point of the story is on point.

I remember liking this movie when I first watched it but there is so many weird and inconsistent edits that cause continuity issues. It's the first movie that made me start catching things like that.

No, because I've definitely watched this movie at least 10 times and it's somehow so niche

I’ve been watching multiple of your videos, and it’s been funny because you of your love of the same underrated movies, like this one, for so many years and your love for Anastasia. I’ve never found anyone with the same movie loves either lol

I used to love this movie when I was in elementary school! I had forgotten about it until it came across my Netflix suggested in college. I’ve NEVER known anyone else who knew this movie when I’d mention it. It definitely wasn’t as amazing as it was in my memory, but the creativity of the story/world is still very fun and just love the campy-ness of it all honestly
