Hi everyone! Please remember: I edit around my REACTION & not the scene. Whenever I attempt to edit more of the scene in, my video gets blocked and unable to publish! I run 3 channels, so editing this way works for me. Otherwise I’ll spend an entire day editing one video. Please remember that and sorry if this style doesn’t work for you! This particular episode reaction is up for individual sale on Patreon since i know it’s a fan favorite! This is 100% fair. If we're watching a reaction, then we should already *_know_* the thing being reacted to. If folks want to watch whole scenes, then they should watch the original again, and come back for the reaction. 🙂
@Oleoay3 ай бұрын
@@derekfnord I understand that and I already know what's being reacted to since I have Firefly and have seen it multiple times. Maybe I'm just not articulating myself well, but I like reliving scenes from shows or movies that I enjoy with someone so if the cuts are a bit too rapid or there aren't any moments to linger in, it makes me feel that I'm not re-experiencing it with the reactor. Then, as you said, I might as well just watch it myself. It'd be the equivalent of wanting to see a reactor enjoy Shakespeare for the first time, then watch them quickly flip through a Cliff Notes version of Hamlet. I don't need the whole movie or even a whole scene, just enough to have an anchor in an individual video for those shared moments/rediscoveries.

Two cool things: After this episode the cinematographer started using this as his signature piece. And when the series was cancelled, Alan Tudyk put the signal button on Joss Whedon's desk with a note telling him to use it when the series was saved.

"You would've done the same thing" A hint to how tough it can be to survive out there for a crew like this. They were like another firefly crew, but perhaps without the strong moral compass of Mal and his crew. Also love the delivery of "We're taking your ship". Maybe you noticed it in previous episodes but poor Kaylee has been warning Mal about this from the beginning. " Compression coil busts, we're drifting..." She never said I told you so. They had to make do with what they had and sometimes that no work. You notice a lot of details when you rewatch the show and you get even more emotional each time. You are very expressive, I don't think we need numbers to see the emotions hehe. Your ending ending made me cry -laugh too haha. I think we're normal people.

The kind of episode that puts fuzz on your face! This episode is a masterpiece of story telling. It's the perfect touch at the end of the episode when we see the ship salesman was trying to sell Mal a different ship but his heart was set on Serenity. This is the episode where I like to talk about Mal metaphorically. I like to think every crew member represents an aspect of Mal. Also, in an abstract way - Serenity is the tenth member of the crew (inability to settle under Alliance rule. Desire to wander). Aspects of Mal: Zoe - Military Comradery and command structure Wash - Wit, seeing the humorous side of things Inara - Love and the inability to express it (Brought on by the war in Mal's case) Shepherd Book - Religion (repressed by War PTSD for Mal), the belief & desire to do right Kaylee - Optimism in life, (Also repressed by War PTSD for Mal), Love and devotion for Serenity Simon - Loyalty & protection (Simon to River, Mal to his crew) Jayne - Mercenary, Pessimistic view of the world (For Mal - Brought on from the war), Justifies doing crime. River - Mental anguish at the hands of the Alliance. Feeling lost. The need to get away from the Alliance. (For Mal - Brought on from the war) Serenity - The ship is the 10th member of the crew. It represents the freedom Mal is seeking, The inability to settle under Alliance rule, and the desire to wander

"Something about him just bothers me" "She likes engines" "That's the last time you get to call me that" Incidentally, I think Mal's "whore" references aren't about her profession, but her relationship with the Alliance. Then the crew reciprocates Mal's loyalty to his crew at the end. Great reaction. I loved the PTLD (Post Traumatic Laughter Disorder.) Whedon is great at slinging people between crying and laughing.

Boom. 669th like. Seriously though, I even get a bit teary from watching peoples' reactions to this episode. But when I do a full re-watch, I'm still a still a blubbering mess by the end, even though I know they're all going to be fine. There's not many shows that will do that to me, and to me that says a lot about how well written, directed and acted this episode was. These people seem to have a way of getting into your heart without you realising, and then they pull this on you. It's like that scene with Mal and the ridiculously huge needle of adrenalin. Couple of small items: First, I’ve always seen the crew of the ship that “rescued” Mal as being a kind of anti-Serenity. Or, if not “anti”, then “turned a little in an unpleasant direction”. Their ship is roughly the same size as Serenity and had a crew of roughly the same size, and they also havea woman on board. It’s just that either by temperament or necessity they’re on a slightly darker path. Regarding Jayne’s 7% at his….previous job, we know from the pilot episode exactly what Jayne gets on Serenity: I got a share of this job. Ten percent of nothing is...let me do the math here….

River was actually wrong. They would asphyxiate before freezing. The human body produces heat as long as it's alive; the problem in the insulating vacuum of space is keeping cool, not keeping warm. That's why space suits have cooling systems, not heating systems. This was certainly a cleverly written episode, to sew three timelines together in a way that made sense to do as a plot device and still kept the plot making sense.

I've really enjoyed a lot of your reactions so far, but I think this one felt it was edited differently. There's only been one reactor I watched their entire Firefly series and most others, I actually stopped watching most other reactors during their first Firefly episode because a lot of them felt a bit too staged. I've enjoyed how genuine you seem in your earlier episodes, yet I didn't really enjoy this video. I guess I never understood the heart monitor thing (What am I hoping for here, a heart attack?) Beyond that though, in terms of the KZbin video, there are just too many jump cuts. I guess I like reliving moments with a reactor and with all the sudden cuts in the replay, including some midsentence or only a sentence long, I just didn't get that feeling on this video. Sure, I understand there's a patreon with a full video reaction and I'll keep watching because I've enjoyed your reactions so far, but wanted to drop some feedback.

Ooh interesting! I actually felt this episode challenged me in terms of editing due to the scene changes with different timelines. Whenever i edit, i typically try to focus more around my reaction rather than the scene itself - this is to help ensure that i don’t have copyright issues and have to cut my actual reaction to the scene since that kinda is the whole point of the video. I wasn’t sure how a HR monitor would do, so i thought I’d try it! Might never wear it again but i use it a lot for my gaming channel & it works well there but maybe not for reactions! Thanks so much for the feedback, sorry you didn’t enjoy this one.
@Oleoay3 ай бұрын
@@NythicalReacts Thank you for responding! There are a lot of cuts with all the nonlinear storytelling in the original episode so I know it's a bit of a challenge. I think you've done a good job so far in hitting that happy medium where we get to enjoy the scene as you do and I know the copyright stuff can be another issue. Nothing wrong with a good challenge :) As far as the heart monitor goes, I really don't care that much either way, so if you and other viewers like it that's fine with me.
