Ratatouille (2007) - Remy dreams of becoming a great chef, despite being a rat in a definitely rodent-phobic profession. He moves to Paris to follow his dream, and with the help of hapless garbage boy Linguini he puts his culinary skills to the test in the kitchen but he has to stay in hiding at the same time, with hilarious consequences. Remy eventually gets the chance to prove his culinary abilities to a great food critic but is the food good?

As a french girl, I'm always proud when someone like Disney movies who take place in France 😁 If you hadn't understand why Colette (who's voiced in France by the singer of " Le festin ") called ratatouille " a peasant dish " it's because in France, it's not considered as a gastronomic dish so normally it's not the typical dish you can eat in a restaurant like Gusteau's. There's a lot of references if french culture in the names of Gusteau's staff : Pompidou (the baker) for Georges Pompidou, the second président of the french Republic, Larousse who's a french edition (created by Pierre Larousse) and the most famous book is a dictionary, and Colette in référence to a french author. Even Ego's flash-back can be a référence of the french author, Marcel Proust who said madeleines' odor remembered him his childhood : this type of memories is called " a Proust madeleine "

I mean, I think Linguine did get his “act” together. Prior to the interview, he was under the impression that he had to keep it all secret. When he planned to reveal it to Collette, Remy told him not to. Linguine can’t speak rat, how would he know his opinion on the matter changed? Remy simply started wanting more recognition, and Linguine wasn’t wrong either. Colette is also a chef, and her opinions as a more experienced chef also has weight and Remy didn’t want to acknowledge them. Linguine also came back to apologize. He may have owed a lot to Remy, but he also considered him a friend. Despite their partnership, the whole point is that Remy and Linguine sorta looked down on the other, and then realized both were being bigoted. His apology was sincere, but Remy at that point was trying to get revenge. Neither Linguine or Remy were in the wrong, both lacked things, both were wrong, both didn’t know what they wanted or what to do. That’s what makes this movie great. Even Skinner had his own issues, which were cut from the movie and are viewable as cut scenes, where it shows how different Gustau and Skinner were and how both had issues with where the culinary world was going.

Basically, the entire movie is about ppl judging others. Ppl judge the rats for their status as “inferior life forms”, Remy judges his heritage and family for their method of survival, he judges Linguine for not being a good cook, and he judges Collette cus he thinks he’s better at cooking than her. Linguine judged Remy, but nobody else cus he felt he was the bottom of the rung from the beginning compared to other people, using him as a way to survive and then get ahead cuz his input wasn’t that significant and was trying to be someone he wasn’t cus he never had ppl expect things from him before. The industry as a a whole judges Collette for being a woman, so she has to be extra strict. His dad judges Remy for trying to be like ppl, the same ones who kill them, & think his thinking is bourgeois. Basically everyone judges each other. Remy’s heritage and status as a rat is impt to who he is and his skills. His rat nose helps him cook to an extent other humans can’t match as well. And upon being given more chances in life, he could show his stuff. I like how everyone comes to terms. The only one who didn’t change was skinner, tho his story would be more extensive if not for the cut scenes

i watched a couple other videos of yours already before this one and i'm surprised that not every video of yours has at least 1k views yet, i'm sure it'll only be a matter of time that any uploads hit that on the same day they're posted because each video has been so fun. i love how you're giving each movie such attention and bringing these insights about all kinds of elements they have (and some spot on predictions about what could happen lol) while also just having fun with each one and also focusing on how you're feeling about the experience in certain moments throughout. i've enjoyed each video throughout as well. glad you enjoyed this movie too, i think it's my favorite film pixar made even though maybe "objectively" there might be one or two that's stronger, and yeah it's kind of a hidden gem since i don't think it's usually the favorite of like, people who really like disney/pixar stuff and talk about it the most. and i think it's definitely kind of unusual but that's exactly why i enjoy it so much, it maintains this mood with the music and visuals and even when it's ramping up i guess it's kind of relaxed or reined in compared to a lot of other films, where the climax involves a food critic having a sentimental flashback and then giving this signficant, thoughtful monologue, but again that's just why i enjoy it so much. glad you liked it too, and while i'm glad i'm early enough that i can post a comment on a week old video that doesn't already have hundreds of comments to compete with, but i still hope that changes soon enough, because you're already doing some of my favorite media reaction videos that i've seen, with the perfect balance of just letting moments of your individual personality & spontaneous reactions shine as well as more involved / indepth comments and reflections on the specific media and how you offer up both what you're enjoying and maybe what's not so fun lol. love that

I love that Anton came from humble beginnings but lost his way when he became a cretic. It shows that you were in fact right, his approval and influence did inflate his ego (pun intended). Colette even calls ratatouille “a peasant dish”, solidifying the fact that Anton at his core is just like everyone else, but changed when he became famous.

Skinner (the short "bad guy" chef) was voiced by the same actor who played Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings lmao. And Will Arnett voiced the "I killed a man, with THIS THUMB" chef. Don't think they had a single french actor do any of the voices.
