The opening of UP is a masterpiece. I cry every time. It's absolutely devastating and sets the stage for Carl's character development for the rest of the film. This is one of the greatest animated films of all time.

"I could help you cross your... yard?" "No." "I could help you cross your... porch?" "No." "Well, I've got to help you cross SOMETHING!" Russell helps Carl cross his heart. And then Carl pins the Ellie Badge over Russell's heart. I love this movie so much.

Up gets you more invested in and caring for its main characters, Ellie and Carl, in the fist 15 minutes than most movies can with a 2+ hour run time, or three-part franchise. That beginning montage is a brilliant piece of visual storytelling.

You may be the only reactor on the planet who wasn't exposed to at least some part of Up's marketing, trailers, or posters. Your look of wonder as he releases the balloons and takes off is magical! What a treat! : ) There's no end of good things about this one. Talking dogs, Kevin, tiny mailman. It's fantastic! And that opening scene will crush anyone but makes the ending all the sweeter.

There are so many little moments you could easily miss. Luckily that gives you a reason to watch it over and over. I can't imagine a better voice for Mr. Fredricksen than Ed Asner (RIP). The very beginning where a very young Carl watches a show about Charles Muntz and his airship, the Spirit of Adventure this was shot in the style of a Movietonews reel. Back in the 30s-50s going to the movie was an all day event. Not only was there the main feature, there was a second movie , a short comedy or action film, a cartoon and the Movietonews reels. Back before TV was people could READ about the news in the paper, or HEAR about the news on the radio but now people could go to the theater and SEE the news for the very first time. As TV gained in popularity, the Movietonews disappeared forever.

You noticed the mood change in the title music. There are several modes of music; each has a different feel. Two of the strongest contrasts are Major and minor chords. Majors like C Major sounds happy, whereas minors like D minor sound sad. The score artist also slowed the tempo or cadence to add to the sad mood. It’s done in almost all movies.

When I was a pre-teen, my friend Darnell, his brother Zion, and I, used to crawl through a drainage ditch under a rock wall to hang out in one of the trailers in an abandoned trailer park. We used to sit in there and hang out for hours. No one would've ever known we were there if it wasn't for the cops seeing our muddy clothes and the fact that I accidentally left a pair of "spy binoculars" in one of the trailers.

This is the perfect first date movie. It’s a Master Class in story-telling that creates a strong bond and empathy with the characters. It makes everyone cry, even if they’ve seen it before. But, if your date doesn’t at least tear up, it’s a huge red flag. It’s a strong indicator of having no empathy, normally associated with a sociopath or worse, a psychopath. Get “Up” and leave!

So ever since this movie came out I've been like I want that freaking caller for my cat. Actually, now they sell buttons that you can put on the floor or mount on the wall so that your cat or dog can technically talk by booping the buttons that you say a word into to let them notify you of certain wishes like outside pets, food, water, things like that. But yeah, the collar is better because they don't need to be standing in the same spot in order to speak and you don't have to pay by the word cuz I've looked online. There's buttons are like $50 per pair and some people who have their pets set up have like several dozen words

I read about this.... and they hired an engineer to figure out the weight of the house vs. the lift power of the balloons. If they were to use real regular size balloons, they'd need 3 million (or something like that) which would make the balloons look like little dots. So instead they used balloons that were twice the size of Carl, amounting to 20,000 balloons for takeoff, and around 10,000 balloons for coasting. Super interesting.

I've seen it so many times because of him and it still makes me laugh and tear up. It's a great movie, but the way it starts with Ellie dying and missing out on her adventures makes it hard for me to watch sometimes. If the sad parts weren't so sad it would probably be one of my favorite animated movies, but other than that it's awesome and hilarious.

It's real !! ! Paradise Falls is a location in the 2009 Disney/Pixar animated feature film, Up. Paradise Falls is based on the real-life Angel Falls, located in Venezuela, South America (where it's also known as Salto Ángel in Spanish).

Another super sad thing about the opening, the funeral for Ellie is in the same church they were married in. Sorry to everyone who didn't know.

I have" the Ellie Pin". Pinned on me in October 1984 when I was married to her. The only " Ellie " I ever kissed . She Passed away in October 2009 from Pancreatic Cancer . Still the only one I've have ever kissed and will be. Like his home, I have pictures every where of her.
