Love how Danos character hums the Batman theme and in another scene, Hugh Jackmans character asks him to stop speaking in riddles. And low and behold, Paul Dano is now the Riddler in the new Batman movie.

Legit got Riddler, Wolverine, Polka Dot Man, War Machine, and Amanda Waller. Weird how Marvel and DC have caused this Six Degrees thing to blend into non comic films. Swordfish for instance has Wolverine, Storm/Catwoman, Howard Saint (from Punisher), Juggernaut, and the newer War Machine.

One of the best films of the last decade. The “Prisoners” term actually isn’t just the girls but multiple characters. I felt bad for Alex because I believe he was abducted and just kind of forced into that life. Everything he was taught was probably wrong and he didn’t know it was

Just wanted to say I don't think Alex/Barry kidnapped the kids or had any malicious intent. Since he has the mind of a ten year old he brought the kids over to the "aunt's" house, probably to play, and the aunt detained them. Or maybe he was just bringing kids back to the house for his aunt because that's what he was trained to do ever since he was a child and didn't know any different.

I think the passive torturers represented in the neighbour couple is a concept that is reflected in more people than we'd like to admit, and no one knows their capabilities in _every_ situation, but I don't think I'd feel up to torturing anyone I wasn't certain was guilty.

This was Villeneuve's first American film but he was already well-established in both Quebec and Canada as a filmmaker. His first 2 films, "Polytechnique" and "Incendies", were widely recognized for his writing and casting as well as his direction. Perhaps because they had subtitles they did not catch on in the States and, like this film, they focused on difficult issues. (Based on the mass shooting of women engineering students at a Montreal university and the impact of growing up a region plagued by ongoing conflict on generations respectively.) Both are excellent and here are the trailers: "Polytechnique" kzbin.info/www/bejne/baO2fJRvr8ungLc "Incendies" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp_clJ6prtl_Z6M A short video essay on Villeneuve's depiction of violence: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3WuoHaYic54bbM

It might be easy to have a blasé attitude about torture while you're watching a movie but the movie is clearly showing why torture is unequivocally a bad thing. Keller was driven to do those things not because it might be the right thing, but because he saw no other option.

I wish Hugh Jackman could get an Oscar, which he's waited for a long time. Actually, I find unbelievable to know that he hasn't won an Academy award for this performance despite being a talented actor. As far as i'm concerned, no one can get over him playing Wolverine's role.

Just saw this movie. Loved it. You guys figured everything out faster than me and my GF did. What I do really like about this is all the answers to the puzzle are in the movie if you watch closely enough. I think that's a feature, not a bug. They don't hide anything from the audience that is essential information. It's all there.

When you said so he's willing to die for his daughter but not willing to kill.. it reminded me of an old general George Patton movie line where he says you don't win a war by dying for your country, you win a war by making the other poor bastard die for his. So yeah, I'm willing to kill for my family.

This is an excellent film, overlooked by many. Melissa Leo is spectacular. She and Denzel in ' Flight' and 'Equalizer' (2?). Paul Dano is also brilliant in 'There Will Be Blood'...holding the screen with Daniel Day-Lewis...no easy feat.

Such a well crafted film and easily one of my favorites from the past decade. Mrs. was so close to cracking during a few scenes.

Loved and hated this movie equally.. I think they found him and yeah super confused with who was who with the boys. Also have you ever watched LA Story with Steve Martin? That would be a good one to react to.
