The drug thing is a good example of how tightly written this movie is. When Vincent buys the heroin his dealer tells him he has to put it in a baggy. Vincent also buys the most potent heroin the dealer has. Vincent can barely handle it and he's an addict with a tolerance built up. Mia finds the baggy, thinks it is coke and does a massive line. While Butch was driving to his apartment there was a news blurb about someone stealing the trophy from Jack Rabbit Slim's. Also, Butch keyed Vincent's car. If you follow the timeline, The Wolf got rid of Jules' car so they took Vincent's car to Marsellus' bar. Vincent and Butch had words and Butch keyed his car as he left.

Marsellus and Vincent were watching Butch's apartment together. Additionally, about the briefcase, Pulp Fiction writer Avary said this: "Originally the briefcase contained diamonds. But that just seemed too boring and predictable. She hit it right on the nose with Tarantino and editing. The reason for the editing difference is 2 fold; his long time editor, the great Sally Menke passed away in 2010 and Tarantino's reputation as being a genius. Very few editors would be willing to challenge Tarantino's creative vision by cutting what actually needed to be cut. Sally, knowing him before he become "The Quinton Tarantino" would challenge him for his own good. Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. Success can sometimes be a hindrance in the creation of great art (or anything else.)

Jack Rabbit Slims was actually a set, they spent a good wealth of their reasonably low budget to create it. QT apparently conjured it up as a sort of disdainful parody of restaurants that bother going similarly overboard with the hip nostalgia schtick.

Watching reactions to this film NEVER GET OLD!!! I've been watching this movie for almost 30 years, and I STILL walk away from the film knowing I saw something new. Also, Martin and Louis and Amos and Andy, it's Quentin Tarantino's slang whether you want it chocolate or vanilla.

I love how Vincent goes on about how a foot massage is crossing the line because it’s in the same ball park as oral sex but after that entire rant he casually says he’s taking the boss’ wife out and downplays it like it’s normal. The goddamn irony and hypocrisy lmao.
@adgato753 жыл бұрын
He is taking her out to keep her entertained , on the orders of his boss , in a respectful way. It really isn't the same thing.
@TheRadScientist_3 жыл бұрын
@@adgato75 whether it’s orders or not it’s still weird. Imagine your boss telling you to entertain his wife on a night out that’s uncomfortable af lol. It’s one thing that Vincent has to do it but he’s not even addressing the situation for what it is.
@adgato753 жыл бұрын
@@TheRadScientist_ I would do it , and it would be fine - if I were in odd sort of job between personal assistant and jack of all trades. Which Vincent is , really. It is no different than meeting a business client for the first time and taking them out to dinner and then the opera or a play. It is simply the hospitality side of the business world.
@TheRadScientist_3 жыл бұрын
@@adgato75 bruh either way you missed the joke because Tarantino clearly did that on purpose. You’re meant to feel the irony in that moment via the dialogue, camera angle, and editing. You’re breaking it down way too much lol it’s intentionally ironic.
@adgato753 жыл бұрын
@@TheRadScientist_ I didn't miss anything. I wasn't discussing the scene. I was talking to you. Yeah , he feels weird about it. But he is also a fucking idiot , who also is in possession of bad intel. I understand the intent of the scene. Perhaps you don't understand that things can have layers.

A wild ride. I saw this at a sneak preview thanks to a buddy who had an extra ticket. When Vincent is shot I leaned next to him and said "Oh man there's gonna be a riot they got the reels mixed up!" Never before had there been a non-linear film like this - and a lot happens too. Great ensemble of talent and proving Tarantino to be a master filmmaker and storyteller. Nice job guys.
@MrGpschmidt2 жыл бұрын
*Also - RE: Jack Rabbit Slim's - it's fictional unfortunately and the reference to the milkshake order of Martin & Lewis or Amos & Andy means vanilla or chocolate (the former was a white comedy team; the latter black both in the '50s)
@donpietruk1517 Жыл бұрын
Hate to dispel the myth that Tarantino invented non linear storytelling in film. But the first notable instance was by the Japanese legend Akira Kurosawa in his 1950 classic Rashomon. American film maker Robert Altman also used the same technique in some of his 1970s movies such as Nashville and McCabe and Mrs. Miller.

One of the biggest things that people always miss is the fact that he didn't stop the bullets he made them pass right through them. There are actual bullet holes directly behind them in locations that would have required them to have moved or the bullets to have passed through them.

It's hard to pin the mood of a decade to a single movie, but when i think back on the 90's, my formidable years, I always first think of Pulp Fiction. It was such a cultural phenomenon....and it happened to be a fantastically crafted and acted movie. It was beyond huge when it came out.

Personally, I thought the Ketchup/Catch joke was pretty damn good as far as puns go. But it literally took me basically 25 years to realize the pun because of the way Uma Thurman delivers the line (whether intentional or not) 🤣

As far as Cows (Cattle) go, there is a thing called the ring of repugnance which is a ring of grass around a Cow pat (poop) that cows will not touch. My Dad actually bought a machine to scatter and spread out the poop so it would dissipate faster and there would be less "Rings of Repugnance" and hence more pasture. Also here (in Australia) we imported African dung beetles to do the same job.
@adgato753 жыл бұрын
It is funny that you mentioned the film "It's Pat". Tarantino did an uncredited script polish for that film. Acted as a "script doctor". Possibly where he met Julia Sweeney. Although he may have met her just around the scene in LA , previously.

I think I'm right there with you on the editing of his movies having gone done in quality a little bit overtime, but I think the reason for that is through most of his career he had only worked with one editor. Unfortunately his editor passed away in a hiking accident or she got really dehydrated during a hike and passed away. I want to say the last movie she worked on with Tarantino was Inglorious Bastards.
