Another neat little bow that I think you missed: Vincent was not, in fact, alone while staking out Butch's apartment. Because Jules had left him at that point, Marcellus was at the apartment as well. He had stepped out to get coffee and donuts when Butch arrived to retrieve the watch. That's why Marcellus was crossing the street on his way back to the apartment when Butch ran him down.

The drug thing is a good example of how tightly written this movie is. When Vincent buys the heroin his dealer tells him he has to put it in a baggy. Vincent also buys the most potent heroin the dealer has. Vincent can barely handle it and he's an addict with a tolerance built up. Mia finds the baggy, thinks it is coke and does a massive line. That seemingly throwaway line of dialogue from the dealer about putting it in a baggy actually impacts the story later.

Here's a couple of little things to pickup on in pulp fiction. Mia and Vincent didn't win the dance contest. While Butch was driving to his apartment there was a news blurb about someone stealing the trophy from Jack Rabbit Slim's. Also, Butch keyed Vincent's car. If you follow the timeline, The Wolf got rid of Jules' car so they took Vincent's car to Marsellus' bar. Vincent and Butch had words and Butch keyed his car as he left.

I like that you mentioned the editing. Sally Menke edited all of Tarantino's early films including "Pulp Fiction", but she tragically died just after she worked on "Inglourious Basterds". She had an inventive editing style with a quirky sense of timing which gave Tarantino's work a particular feel. This is why the films after her death can feel a bit bloated and long-winded.

@@ramudon2428 Yeah, I have heard that guess a Lot, and that guess is wrong. The briefcase was indeed a textbook "MacGuffin", added by the writers Roger Avary and Tarantino. The giveaway that it is Not Marsellus' soul is in the diner when 'Pumpkin' (Tim Roth) sees it and says, "Is that what I think it is?". Additionally, about the briefcase, Pulp Fiction writer Avary said this: "Originally the briefcase contained diamonds. But that just seemed too boring and predictable. So it was decided that the contents of the briefcase were never to be seen. This way each audience member would fill in the blank with their own ultimate contents. All you were supposed to know was that it was "so beautiful." So clearly (as done by Many artists of many mediums), the audience / fan / viewer, is given the opportunity to use their imagination- so the "object" is not anything but your own imagination. So let it be whatever you want it to be, but I have add that if it is something that a random little crook (like Pumpkin) can see and recognize, it wasn't a soul pulled from Marsellus' neck. ✌🏼

Last thing, the pilot where she would have told a joke every episode is a riff on welcome back kotter, the show Travolta got his start in. The teacher told a joke at the end of every episode. This is perhaps one of the greatest movies of all time based on the dialogue alone. Some of the most razor sharp dialogue in a movie ever if you catch it.

If you pay close attention, you'll see that several bullets went right through jewels (as seen when they turn around and look at the wall). Vincent however was just really lucky as no bullet holes were in the wall directly behind him. So that explains that both were correct in that for jewel's there was some type of divine intervention, but for Vincent there was no unnatural power saving him just luck.

Fun fact: Quentin Tarantino initially wanted to heroin dealer to be Kurt cobain as a cool little cameo, but Kurt didn't end up doing it and I think died beforehand? But if you read the leaflet that comes with "In Utero" it says "with thanks to Quentin Tarantino" as he was a massive fan of Reservoir Dogs. Quentin returned the favour and insisted they thank nirvana or Kurt on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.

She hit it right on the nose with Tarantino and editing. The reason for the editing difference is 2 fold; his long time editor, the great Sally Menke passed away in 2010 and Tarantino's reputation as being a genius. Very few editors would be willing to challenge Tarantino's creative vision by cutting what actually needed to be cut. Sally, knowing him before he become "The Quinton Tarantino" would challenge him for his own good. Filmmaking is a collaborative effort. Success can sometimes be a hindrance in the creation of great art (or anything else.)
@adgato75

That is why the original Star Was trilogy was good. Lucas' dumb ideas got shot down. This is an effect that in writing circles is sometimes called "Immunity to editors". Happened to Anne Rice , and happens to many others that get big. Some of them really can't do their own rewrites. They need a collaborator.

@@ashleighelizabeth5916 Well, glad you enjoyed it. Sorry I can't say the same. Another nitt pick, though. Having seen hippies IRL in the mid 70's, they were NEVER as clean as they were depicted in this film. Also, the depiction of Bruce Lee was pretty much character assassination. While Lee was cocky at times, he was never the complete as a-hole depicted here. His daughter Shannon should have sued!!!
@ashleighelizabeth5916
@ashleighelizabeth5916 2 күн бұрын
@@helifanodobezanozi7689 A. clean hippies falls under the heading of suspension of disbelief. What you think casting Anne Hathaway as an ugly duckling in The Princess Diaries makes any kind of sense? You think Ugly Betty was actually ugly? B. Remember the scene with Bruce is from Cliff's memory and is part of the concept of the unreliable narrator. Notice how all the other crew standing around suddenly disappears without warning in that scene? C. You can't sue for libel in a work of fiction. Not to mention this is an alternate reality where the Manson murders didn't happen. So you have the recollection of an unreliable narrator in a work of fiction set in an alternate reality. Yeah you'd get laughed out of court if you tried to sue for stuff like that.

Hate to dispel the myth that Tarantino invented non linear storytelling in film. But the first notable instance was by the Japanese legend Akira Kurosawa in his 1950 classic Rashomon. American film maker Robert Altman also used the same technique in some of his 1970s movies such as Nashville and McCabe and Mrs. Miller.

As far as Cows (Cattle) go, there is a thing called the ring of repugnance which is a ring of grass around a Cow pat (poop) that cows will not touch. My Dad actually bought a machine to scatter and spread out the poop so it would dissipate faster and there would be less "Rings of Repugnance" and hence more pasture. Also here (in Australia) we imported African dung beetles to do the same job.

You know one that cuts the cop's ear off with a straight razor, after he asks him You ever listen to K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70's? While dancing to Steelers Wheels stuck in the middle with you.
