No sign of strain whatsoever in his face or body. No modern tech or special effects. Not done in a studio. Just stand up in front of a live audience (which included his mother who he said he was nervous about performing in front of) and belt it out and then scale it up in the finale to those sky high notes (which are uncharted territory for male performers) with a gentle bite of his lip at the very end which said, “yeah, that’s a take.” I imagine Mom was proud and the ladies there were dropping off room keys. 🔑

After almost sixty years, Bobby Hatfield can still make the girls swoon. It was sweet watching you tear up, and that big sigh. I would guess you've never heard an old-school love song sung like this. No edgy posturing, no tawdry sex, just pure heartfelt emotion.

Fact Bobby Hatfield never had a singing lesson in his life and still had 5 octives in his vocal range whuch he does all 5 at the end if this performance. Before Bobby recorded this song him and Bill Medley tossed a coin to see who would record Unchained Melody. Bobby won. Also their name " The Rightous Brothers" was actually given to them whe they were performing at an all black club back in 60s when seg2 was still heavy. After they had finished performing a song one of the male patrons had stood up during the applause and said "you are rightous brothers" bith Bill and Bobby had reiterated this during interviews.

An amazing song from a time when people dressed well, sang from the heart about love and not sex, and put real feeling and emotion in a song. No special effects, no autotune just an amazing voice. I’m sure you would like heart and soul and you lost that loving feeling from the righteous Brothers. This was one of their solos and they flipped a coin to see who was going to do it and Bobby Hatfield won the toss and his partner Bill Medley who is the baritone said he was glad he won because he doesn’t think he could’ve done it any better. Great review!

This song and performance has been sweeping women off of their feet for over 50 years. It is a wonderful song. The Righteous Brothers Could deliver like few if any others could. The contrast between their voices - Bobbie sang the high parts and Bill the low/bass parts. I have heard that Unchained Melody is one of the most played songs EVER. One of the best parts of my life is that when I was a young'n This was the music on TV and the radio. No auto-tune, no fancy studio tricks. Just two men with an amazing amount of talent and skill. This song has a cool backstory. It was originally used in a movie called “Unchained” and was recorded by several different artists in the 50’s and 60’s. The Righteous Brothers’ version (this one) is the most famous and reached #4 in 1965. Their version was used in the movie “Ghost” in 1990 and blew up on radio that year. However, due to a weird licensing quirk, they couldn’t re-release it and had to re-record it, note-by-note. So, in 1990, the “new” version charted based on record sales and the original version charted based on radio airplay. Both versions were on the chart at the same time, 25 years after they originally recorded it. Frikkin’ timeless, classic song. Thanks for the vid!

It is such a joy to watch a young person react to our great music from the 50's and 60's. We loved it back then as much as you did in this reaction. Thanks for sharing.

Fun fact: his mother was in attendance for this and he was so nervous. No auto tune. No re takes. One shot and killed it.

When most people have a vocal range of about 2 octaves, Bobby Hatfield could effortlessly make 3 and and a half octaves. Almost double the normal voice! Watch his performance, though. No autotune, no studio fakery, no recordings of himself behind it to fill out the sound, no fist pumping, hands on his hips, no power poses, no grimacing to make it look difficult. He doesn't even need to open his mouth wide to get this incredible tone. No note is wasted as each one makes the journey even sweeter. This is simply pure talent. I can honestly think of no one today who could do this.

Somehow it's very rewarding to see young people - you could be my granddaughter - being moved by one of the greatest live performances ever of a true love song. At the moment, there's no such music any more. But who knows, if enough young people rediscover these songs, perhaps we will witness a revival of real music - and real singing.

A TRUE love song. I was born in 1960 and these songs are written for when men and women cherished each other. I'm glad it's being listened to nowadays. Maybe true romance will make a comeback :)

Be careful with these two when Bill is putting all of his soul in a song and then Bobby hits one of those insane high notes it is absolutely magic. They are one of the all time greatest things to ever happen to music
