Bobby was unique, one of a kind. Besides being outrageously handsome, his pitch is insane. This song belongs to Bobby, noone has, or will do it better. He definitely puts you under a spell, and not with just this song, but every solo he does. For me, he was the voice of the Righteous Brothers and he is, and will always be, my favorite male singer!!

“The Righteous Brothers” are considered by most to be the Greatest Male Vocal Duo Of All Time. I agree. Between Bill Medley’s Lows and Bobby Hatfield’s Highs they can hit every note on a piano. No other male singers can do that. Legendary. “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’’ was the most played song on radio in the 20th Century "Unchained Melody" - Bobby Hatfield Live 1965 Andy Williams Show (with his mother sitting right behind him) Considered by most as The Greatest Live Male Vocal Performance In History... I agree. Bobby’s use of “Runs” is masterful. He created the style and set the table that all others have fed off of for decades. 7 notes just to say the word “I” is melodic brilliance. Their name came from doing a show near a marine base in So Calif and a black marine said to them…. You two guys are Righteous Brothers. In 1983, in Newport Beach O.C. Calif. Bill and Bobby at the Jolly Roger Restaurant . I was 13 feet away for... "Unchained Melody"- "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" - "Soul And Inspiration".... They were perfect, awesome, amazing, incredible......

@@bdoeden64 While I posted a comment the other day about Bobby and Billy, and mentioned several other male vocalists that were on my mom’s “playlist” during my formative years in the late ‘50s - early ‘60s - mostly in the crooner/jazz idiom - I think nominating or compiling a list of “greatest” of anything is a bit of a fool’s errand. Paul Robeson, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Joe Williams, Gregory Porter, Billy Eckstine, Freddy Mercury, etc are the first few names that pop into mind who have equally impressive catalogs. Now, having a great natural vocal gift doesn’t necessarily make for a talented singer, or admirable human being. This was a wonderful performance for sure, and they may well have been delightful people, but I think to declare this the best live vocal ever is myopic at best.
@bdoeden64

@@fonkenful I didn't say in the comment you are responding to, and don't think I have ever said, let alone thought, that any given performance is 'the best ever' - as there are so many different subjective criteria. I apologize if I did post something I don't remember, or if I misunderstood your point. Perhaps you were trying to respond to the original commenter (AliasMark69)? My comment was meant to point out to AliasMark69 that RB weren't the only trick in town, that they DID have competition.

As someone born in the late 1950's, like many, I have had the opportunity to be around to hear the birth, growth, and sometimes decline of so many genres of music. For me, besides the great classical music of the past centuries, the greatest music has been that of the 1950's through the 1980's. So much of that music was created out of the hearts of the musicians and songwriters, and much of it is genuine, timeless, and beautiful. There has certainly been some good music created after that, but so much of it today is just canned, formulaic, and meant to sell, rather than coming from the soul of the artist. It's good to see that the younger generations are looking back and discovering some of the best music ever created and performed from their parents and grandparents generations. It gives us depth and helps us all to understand the times the music was created in. Enjoy the journey and the discovery.

Women reacting to this always makes me smile. As the song plays I'm convinced that to 99% of them, nobody else exists and Bobby is singing directly to them. ...and yes I think it would be hilarious to see one of the women in a non solo reaction go batshit insane about halfway through the song and go full UFC on her unsuspecting friend while screeching "HE'S MINE!!!!!!!" That was very interesting. Every single one of the women was HOOKED in the first 3 seconds and owned at the first crescendo. Some of them looked like they were in shock by the end.

If you honestly can say you "don't like" this version of Unchained Melody - you don't like music, period. Even if your thing is rap or hard rock, this song touches the soul.

Ok, ladies of the 2000’s…this is what is called “A Love Song”. Performed by artists like Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers, this man could mesmerize a live audience with his voice and melody. It is the true music of a previous generation that brought young women and men into adulthood with love and bonds to last a lifetime. If you take the time and interest to replay other 1960 artists, you will find a common thread consisting of devotion and adoration for couples in love. Let’s hope music and artists like this return again. 💞

Remember, prior to 2000 except for instrument inhalers, there was nothing to alter the voice. If something was done vocally, there was only your voice.

I'm only 44 years old but I find it inconceivable that there are adults that aren't familiar with this song. Lol Just as I'm sure there are octogenarians that cannot believe us youngins aren't familiar with Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Glenn Miller. Makes me wonder what happens when I'm 85. Will kids not know what Phil Collins or Rod Stewart sounds like?

I'm right there with you. I am in love with 95% of musics from the 30's to the present. From all genres. I love Big Band, Jazz, Blues, Classical, R&R, Pop, Opera, Country, Bluegrass, R&B, Early - mid 90's Rap, Motown....etc...I can keep going and going. Music is amazing. Bobby was definitely in the category of one of the best singers ever. His range was absolutely incredible. The singers prior to auto everything had pure, raw talent. There are very few people today that have talent like those of yesteryear.

He was a young gospel singer and got to make records with his singing partner not here, if you never heard of him before, he was sick or throw up before every performance that's how nervous he was. Bobby died in the early 2000's. Classic stuff there are more musical tunes out there, more than you can shake a stick at, so give these tunes some love. Remember there's some music or someone out there for everyone Love mum
