I tell ya, Tobin Bell is a talented actor. And his portrayal of Jigsaw in the Saw franchise is so amazing. The stories are already great, even if the later films are lacking a little. But his portrayal is always a guaranteed highlight of each film. It's just a real shame Tobin Bell hasn't been able to get serious, mainstream work since the Saw franchise. This man has so much talent in him. Like a critically acclaimed actor, Oscar-worthy talent. Honestly, he deserved an Oscar nomination for either Saw II or Saw III.

another thing is like many horror actors like the ones who played Hellraiser and Freddy Kreuger they are actually super nice polite people in real life and the kindest people and big advocates of anti-war and anti-torture, heck the actor who played pinhead from hellraiser since the makeup would take so long to take off would go to bars to get drunk and sleep with women still wearing his horror outfit

Personally, i love William Easton. He has a redemption and he learned the leason, shame he died, after all it was a nice person and try to safe every life (Not like others -JEFF-). I want to add, that the man who was killed in the second trap, is because he didn't have any life besides his job, he didn't enjoy beign alive. All the persons there didn't apreciate the life and show no remorse besides William, it was all a test and lesson to William and Harold's family

The context with Jeff is very different though. The people he encountered were all responsible of taking the most important thing in his life. Its only natural he couldnt forgive them. He was on the same spot the kid and the mother were in this movie. The people William encountered were either his co-workers or people whose lives he ruined.

I honestly don't feel Hank was chosen for being a smoker. That health condition only served as a basis for the first test in which Easton was guaranteed to win. Looking back when Hank was first introduced, it's clear he has full access to the Umbrella offices and therefore was fully aware of the massive corruption all the employees were involved in. Which I feel was the major motivation in having the staff be part of the traps. The same can be said with the secretary and file clerk.
@perrycarters3113

Yeah. John took MASSIVE issue with the clinical, detached nature of the insurance company, plus the downright predatory way they deliberately seek to deny claims.

@ImAlsoMerobiba
@ImAlsoMerobiba Жыл бұрын
Maybe, but it's still a flawed Jigsaw test. If the test is supposed to teach them a lesson, Hank would only learn that he shouldn't be smoking given his health condition. That's how the test is presented. Jigsaw should have directed the message about the insurance policies to both of them. I think he's only chosen because he has some minor connection to William. Your workplace's janitor is different than a random person off the street. Same with the staff. In regards to how much he knows, he's a janitor. If he's anything like the cleaning staff that we have at our work place, they have little idea of the inner workings of our company by design.

@@ImAlsoMerobiba You’re not wrong. In complete honesty, the movies do get more convoluted as they went on over the years. I don’t expect them to be entirely rational anymore. To me at least, it’s a prime example of the “too many cooks” metaphor. Different writers, different directors. Not that they’re bad either. I love this series. But I get intrigued by the elaborate nature of the traps more than anything else. Back to Hank, the whole concept of breathing was entirely set up for him to fail, given his inability to stand any chance. So I entirely agree he was never meant to learn anything or win. Hank was doomed from the start.

I would have liked to known what the original letter John left for Amanda before Hoffman switched it out and blackmailed her. They just opted to connect Hoffman with the letter when he was revealed to be the other accomplice in Saw IV. Four isn't bad it can be confusing with a lot of flashbacks. All the flashbacks in one two and three could have been one prequel movie and the current games in three and four should have been one movie. Tobin Bell would have gotten a lot more screen time in the current time instead of flashbacks and being bedridden after the six month gap.

So you peeping that people are just dying: john still has the belief that ppl can overcome their issues after doing his traps. Sadly its Amanda and Hoffman who keep making the traps hard to survive. Best way to figure out if John actually made the traps is if someone can actually survive. The fact that these were just "choose one person to die" is just Hoffman lol. [I would say after you watch all the saw films, watch CZ Worlds horror history for John Kramer; it fully delves into the psyche of this] [as always love the reactions]
@ImAlsoMerobiba
@ImAlsoMerobiba Жыл бұрын
How does everyone from the 1st movie survive? Gordon needs to kill Adam to free his family. Gordon could have potentially avoided that if his wife shot Zepp, but then Zepp dies. Zepp was also supposed to kill Gordon if he failed to kill Adam, so that's another death. Adam's at bit of a disadvantage, but he basically would have to kill Gordon to survive. Saw 6 also heavily implies all traps for the insurance people are John's designs. Hoffman definitely helped set them up though.

Saw VI is one of my favourites. Very important flashbacks, I loved William as the protagonist. And well, people there were not innocent. Also Carousel was a pure joy to watch because of visuals. Also the whole investigation part of the movie was top notch with feds teasing Hoffman all the time as they clearly knew it since the beginning, but couldn't prove it so they wanted to catch him right on spot. And well, it wasn't "pointless". It was reflection of what William did - choosing who lives or dies, proving that his formula was faulty. Tho I agree most people had very limited options of surviving, but Jigsaw was a hipocryte since day 1. The first trap was obviously not fair, the carousel tho was psychological trap and I loved it.

I see it as john kramer making this test personal but hoffman, the psycho he is, made the game so not everyone can survive, the idea though of william needing to choose who is alive and who isnt is interesting, as he at work denies people that arent healthy or old etc, while now it seems he picks them on a personal level, which made him learn his lesson

I believe John has always put innocent people in danger(except for the 2nd movie) even in the first movie, the mother and daughter were at risk of being killed. I don’t think it was a flaw in the movies, though, I think it was to show a flaw in John’s logic. Yes, John is smart, but he is also insane. His execution isn’t always fair.

I've been going through your reacting to Saw playlist and enjoying the hell out of it. I love these movies and I love seeing people react to them for the first time I will say, in regards to your question at 25:30, there is a lot of continuity when it comes to the series. In the commentary for Saw III, the director, Darren Lynn Bousman, acknowledged that what was written on the note to Amanda "wasn't important," in his words. What was important to him was that it meant something to her, it didn't matter that the audience didn't know. That was his mindset at the time of making the movie, at least. (That was also the last movie to be written by Leigh Whannell, the co-writer of the first three movies) Going forward, the subsequent movies had different directors and different writers, as Leigh Whannell had left the series by then. But I think the new writers kept the spirit of the movies going forward, and so it was them (the team of Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan) who decided to revisit what was on the note written to Amanda, in a way that still meshed with the timeline of the films. Just a bit of trivia and background on the thinking that went into the production. I'm loving your stuff, man! Keep up the great work

This film in the series best proves my argument that Jigsaw isn't always the villain. That often times - I'd argue, the majority of the time - those "victims" in his traps... they're the real villains. And in those instances, Jigsaw (aka John Kramer) is the good guy. That insurance creep, and most of his underlings, deserve to be right where they are.

@@theunknownuser9609 nope. Jigsaw is - AT WORST - an antihero, if even that. Even several survivors have credited him with "saving" them, or "fixing" them. Even thanked him. I mean, he even converted a certain character that I don't want to say because it would be a spoiler. But to convert this particular individual speaks volumes to the positivity that is Jigsaw's method of conversion to decency in regards to people. Hell, some of the villains-not-victims in the traps have stated that THEY THEMSELVES do belong there (i.e., the final two in Saw V). And like Jigsaw says time and again, he's technically never actually killed anyone. HIS traps are winnable, he gives them a real shot a getting out free. Now, two of his protégés, they were outright murders. They had no intention of letting anyone defeat their traps. The people Jigsaw went after - 95% of them, at least - had it coming. Nothing but cxntrag, fxxktwxt, pieces of shxt. Absolute scum of the Earth. Got everything they deserved.

Regarding that final question: lots of planning and retconning in this series. I think it's safe to say since you've already seen all the movies now. Ignoring Spiral and Saw X: • Original Saw was written by itself. • I read there was some planning for Saw II and Saw III together (as a trilogy). They had to do some retconning since the original was meant as a standalone. • Then Saw IV, V and VI were meant as a 2nd trilogy from a new pair of writers. The new writers, Melton and Dunstan, did end up writing all 3, so there was probably a good amount of planning here. There's definitely some retconning too, even basic things like Hoffman being credited as a forensics officer in Saw III and suddenly being a Lieutenant Detective in Saw IV-VI. Saw VI was written with some finality to it, so not sure how much they planned ahead. • Then Lionsgate originally planned for 2 more sequels (VII and VIII), with Melton and Dunstan returning. But... it became 1 final Saw film instead of 2, because VI underperformed. So they combined storylines from VIII into VII (aka Saw 3D). This marked the end of the series for a while. • Lionsgate was convinced to make another sequel when they got a good pitch for a sequel by 2 new writers. So this one wasn't planned for at all.

Every person has a consciousness and working for a company that does ethical shit makes them responseable too, because they are aware of it and still chose to work there. Giving them a pass just because they have mouths to feed is too easy. The employees are just as responseable as the boss they worked for. To a far lesser degree sure but still, a piece of bad is still bad.

I completely agree with your point on innocents. The games that hinge on an innocent person being involved make me extremely uncomfortable, and not in a good way. Because they just don't fit John's MO. I understand his logic; but then he shouldn't be including innocent people. And yes, in some of the later games it's not him - but we also see that THIS game absolutely was him. Maybe he felt like the members of William's team/the other employees were guilty by association?
@ImAlsoMerobiba
@ImAlsoMerobiba Жыл бұрын
Problem is that John is hypocritical. He's never followed his stated MO, even from the 1st movie, when he involved Adam, Gordon's family, and Amanda's unexplained cell mate. Even Gordon didn't deserve the test. Sure cheating is terrible, but one outcome would have been him murdering Adam to save his family. Okay, maybe he's learned a lesson about not taking his family for granted, but now he has to live with the guilt of murder. I doubt Gordon would be very thankful. It also partially stems from the original Saw being written as a standalone film, and them needing to retcon stuff as they expanded the series. But the fact that they're still involving innocent people in Saw 6 says to me that they're staying true to the characterization of John from the 1st movie. He designs some tests that focus on 1 person, and everyone else is collateral damage.
