They didn't torture Han "for no reason". They were just doing it to cause pain and anguish that Luke would feel through the Force. They arranged the images that Luke saw as a possible future for his friends. And I loved the delayed reaction to "I know."!! I'm sure others will say it, but it was in improvised line during one take. Such a classic moment!

Three years have passed since the Death Star has been destroyed. 7:20 - No. Obi-Wan is dead. However, what you're seeing is his "Force Ghost" talking to Luke. This isn't something everyone can do, but Obi-Wan learned how. 27:13 - Close. He's testing his ability to remain patient. 31:35 - When Yoda said "Only what you take with you." He wasn't just referring to what Luke was carrying on his person, but everything he was carrying within his mind, as well. Doubts, fears, emotions, memories, beliefs, etc. 33:20 - It's not him, but it IS the same type of armour. While his name here isn't spoken aloud, it is listed in the credits, so not a spoiler to tell you his name; Boba Fett. And yes, he is wearing Mandalorian armour. 52:33 - Actually, Vader is simply toying with Luke, trying to gauge how much he has actually learned so far. He's increasing the difficulty a little at a time, because he doesn't want to kill "The Emperor's Prize" (as he put it). 54:25 - Notice Vader is being a bit more aggressive? 56:40 - That question was the subject of debate on school yards across the world for the next 3 years.

Ohhh shiii, she’s back ❤ So there’s a story of a samurai who was hunting down the murderer of his overlord. After years, the samurai finally finds the man, and as he’s about to deal justice the man spits in his eye. The samurai becomes furious, and then sheaths his sword and walks away. Why? Because it became a personal act rather than one of duty. Maybe that fable will give you some insight into the Jedi. When Yoda says that attachments lead to the dark side, he’s referring to the principle in the samurai story. When he answers Luke about the cave, “only what you bring with you,” it’s more of a centering on one’s own life, balance, ideals, and duty. Whether it’s the easier path or the path he fears, the path to becoming a Jedi is mastering your own emotion and upholding something bigger than yourself. “A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack,” Yoda said. But, it’s interesting to see who attacks first throughout this movie. Did you notice?

that is so very interesting & makes sense bc he said the dark side can be fueled by anger & making it personal can EASILY lead to anger. omg not really. The reason Vader tortured Han is because Han being in pain made ripples in the Force that Luke felt.
@sixstanger00 Жыл бұрын
The reason Vader doesn't remember having children is explained in Episode III. Luke faces three trials in this movie _twice._ The first time is on Dagobah during his training. The trials are: 1. The cave. Luke faces his fears, but fails this test because he gives in to his aggression; he decapitates Vader out of revenge for Kenobi's death. 2. The sunken X-Wing. Luke fails this test because he does not believe in the power of the Force. Luke can't move objects of any size at will. 3. Control of one's emotions. Yoda describes that through the Force, Luke can see the future, the past, and old friends. Luke sees the vision of his friends in pain, and lets his emotions get the better of him; he abandons his training to go to Bespin. Luke then faces these same three trials during his confrontation with Vader: 1. The carbon chamber. Luke again gives in to his aggression and severely underestimates Vader's skill with a lightsaber; Luke nearly loses when he falls into the carbon freezing pit. 2. The "throwing objects" scene. Vader is able to simultaneously move objects in the room while engaging Luke with a lightsaber. Luke is unable to match Vader's skill in this scene because he hasn't mastered control of the Force (the same reason he couldn't lift the X-Wing). 3. The revelation. Luke learns that Vader is his father, and is now tempted by the Dark Side with an offer to rule the galaxy with Vader. This is another trial of controlling one's emotions. Luke *_passes_* this trial, because he doesn't give in to his emotions and instead, chooses to jump off the tower.

@@Anti-HeroTV TESB was a very cleverly written story, and there are many layers to it. Just another quick one: At the beginning, Luke hangs upside down in the cave. In the middle, Luke is upside down during his training with Yoda. At the end, Luke hangs upside down on the weather vane. Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote the story, has said that this signifies Luke's world being turned upside down in this film.

When Vader talks to the Emperor in 'Empire Strikes Back,' what's going on is complicated. My read is this: 1) The Emperor IS NOT telling Vader anything that Vader doesn't already know!! Note that Vader said, in an earlier part of the movie, "...and I'm sure Skywalker is with them." So Vader already knew that someone named 'Skywalker' was a Big Person in the Rebel alliance, and he probably already knew that this Skywalker was THE PERSON who destroyed the Death Star. Vader also knew that when he (Vader) was attempting to shoot down Luke's X-Wing in 'A New Hope' that, "The Force is strong with this one." So, the Force is unusually strong with someone, who happens to have the name, 'Skywalker' - and 'Skywalker' is the same name that Vader had before he was Vader. So, Vader already knew he had a son, before he spoke to the Emperor. 2) If Vader already knew, why did he conceal that fact, and act surprised when the Emperor mentioned it? "How is that possible?" The answer is, that while Vader serves the Emperor, Vader also •hates• the Emperor, and has a different agenda than the Emperor. Vader wants to rescue Luke from death, and to kill the Emperor, and then rule the galaxy with his son - the only family he has left (that Vader knows about). That means turning Luke to the Dark Side. By contrast, the Emperor wants to remove Luke as a threat. That could mean destroying Luke, but when Vader suggests turning Luke to the dark side, the Emperor goes along with it: If Luke is converted to the Dark Side, the Emperor can "trade up" and replace Vader with "a new apprentice, one far younger and more powerful." So, when Vader talks to the Emperor, both Vader and the Emperor are "scheming past one another." Both men want a DIFFERENT final outcome, and while both want to turn Luke to the dark side, both want to use Luke for a different final purpose.

Luke's vision in the cave may be interpreted as premonition about his bloodline. It may also be interpreted as killing the dark-side version of himself. Imagine if Luke were to go to the dark side and rule with Vader. That's one of the options we considered, and dreaded, as we waited three years until the next movie. Originally the conclusion of this trilogy was entitled Revenge of the Jedi. That sounds a bit dark-sidey at first, which is one of the reasons they changed it later.

In the original script of the film, the line was; "Obi-Wan KILLED your father." The original script writer of Empire , sadly passed away before filming began, and George Lucas took over the script. In a weird Dutch-German mix, Darth Vader literally means Dark Father. Lucas took this as his 'inspiration' to make Vader, Luke's daddy. He is his dark father, indeed! That line is the greatest plot twist in movie history, and made Vader an icon. It also shifted the story completely. With that line, it confirmed that Star Wars IS Vader's story, not Luke's. His fall to the dark side must be how this story all got started. The greatest villain of all time, was once good. It makes him the villain and the 'hero' of the story, all at once. Its just unbelievably great.

To be fair, Leia kissing Luke at the beginning of the movie was only to get under Han's skin. Luke might have gloated at the moment, but really he was just a pawn and Leia's kiss was only a tactic. It didn't mean (to Leia) what Luke might have hoped it meant. The kiss later, was really more of a nurturing care-giver's way of comforting an injured patient. And, for that matter, the kiss in Episode 4: A New Hope was just a kiss for luck in a dicey situation. Really, by the context of the kisses, none of them really exhibited any romantic intent. The kisses with Han, on the other hand were a bit more intense and gave a steamy vibe with plenty of sexual tension and finally a declaration of love. Unfortunately, we have to wait to see if he reciprocates. Honestly, I am surprised so many people are shocked that Leia would kiss multiple people in a short amount of time. I am not, however, because I have lived in and traveled through countries where a kiss upon greeting, (2 kisses where I was, one on each cheek), was the norm (pre-pandemic) among even new acquaintances. Furthermore, there is the possibility that polyamorous relationships might be the norm among some cultures in this galaxy, so even if Leia were interested in multiple partners, that's really nothing more than a matter of consent among all involved. It's not like any of the three are unaware of any of the others in this trio. Something to think about.
@Anti-HeroTV Жыл бұрын
you are right. Kisses can be just affection & not romantic, but it has to be acknowledged that kissing for luck can be given by romantic partners too. all I had to go on was Luke's feelings & her kiss. I feel like ppl could say it was romantic or not bc the actress did a good job making it look like it could be either. Leia never spoke her feelings. Also, I didn't care if she was with both. I said in the video that they might have more than one partner on her planet & it be an everyday life thing. more power to her 🙌🏽 the biggest thing ppl are ignoring is that even ep 6 acknowledged it was signals that could've been romantic by Solo being jealous twice in the movie. that shouldn't be ignored just bc we know they're siblings in hindsight.

My favorite Star Wars movie and the one that is considered by many to be the best in the franchise. It's gotten to the point that any time a movie sequel is better than the original while expanding upon the world the original created, it's often referred to as "the Empire Strikes Back" of that franchise. This movie takes place about 3 years after the events of the previous ones. Moving forward with the Star Wars films I'm going to be giving references to when the film is set by using the time reference of "BBY" and "ABY", that being Before the Battle of Yavin and After the Battle of Yavin, which was the battle that saw the Death Star destroyed. So this movie being 3 years later is set in 3 ABY, where if it was 3 years before it would be 3 BBY. Every entry in the Star Wars timeline is always using this timekeeping measure to let us know when things are set in the grand scheme of things. Between the last film and this one, Luke's actor Mark Hamill had been in a pretty horrific car accident and his face had been scarred pretty badly as a result. Rather than ignore it, the sequence of Luke being attacked by the snow monster was put in as an in-universe way of explaining why the pretty boy in the last movie is so scarred up now. I love how the characters haven't had their personal arcs reset just because we're in a new movie. Yes, Han is still the rough around the edges scoundrel he always was, but now that he's proven he cares for others too we see him willing to put himself at risk to go rescue Luke. No hesitation, Luke isn't back from his patrol and it's getting dangerously cold outside, Han doesn't care. He's going out to find him. That water tube they had Luke in after being rescued is a Bacta tank. Sort of a healing tank, the liquid is this miracle substance that is able to patch up wounds. It won't regrow a missing limb but it will fix you up for most injuries. The idea of a healing tank like this actually became pretty widespread following this film. Probably the most notable example would be the healing pods in Dragon Ball Z during the Namek episodes. We see Vegeta and Goku placed in such a pod during that time. Given Akira Toriyama's love of Western scifi, it's fitting he'd include it as a little reference to Empire Strikes Back which had only just recently come out at the time he was writing that saga. Fun tidbit, for the 2004 special edition DVD releases of the films, several members of the cast and crew recorded commentary tracks for the films. George Lucas doing one, the producers doing one, etc. One notable one was Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia herself. During the scene where Leia is giving the briefing to the Rebel pilots, Carrie mentioned that she had no idea what the hell she was saying but had committed the whole thing to memory to try and get through the briefing in a single take. Even then, 20+ years after filming the movie, she still had the lines memorized, and proceeded to recite them from memory in the middle of the commentary. Funny what random bits of info stays with you years and even decades later. It's a blink and you miss it moment but I love the random Star Destroyer bridge being hit by an asteroid and then cutting to Vader's meeting with the holograms of the ship captains where one looks over and panics before blinking out...and no one even notices it. There's something amusing about the idea of Vader going through all the drama of setting up a dinner for the grand reveal that he's there purely for the trap against Han and Leia. "I love you" "I know" is iconic. From what I understand they were going to have Han say "I love you too" back to her but the scene just wasn't working. So the director suggests to Harrison Ford to just wing it in character and he improvs the "I know" response, and thus one of Star Wars' greatest lines was born. "No... *I am your father"* is the greatest twist in cinema. Darth Vader, Darth Motherfucking Vader is the father of our hero. *This* is the reason why I and so many others emphasize watching Release Order over Chronological Order for first timers such as yourself. If you watched in Chronological Order with Episodes 1-3 first, this twist would have been spoiled for you. It's also the appeal of the Machete Order, watching to this point and then watching the Prequels as a way of us getting this reveal and then going to those films to see how it came about in the form of a 3-movie extended flashback before finally resolving it with Episode 6 back in the "present". An entire generation of fans had their minds blown when this dropped and whenever anyone reacts to this series it is this moment above all others I look forward to seeing the most.

I've still been getting comments on which order to watch & ppl damn near insulting others with different opinions. the fanbase is very passionate about this & I know ppl will be mad no matter what I choose lol. tbh I was interested in chronological order bc fanbases are usually bias with preferred release order (Chronicles of Narnia books for example) but this time it seems it really would have been spoiled by that route which is kinda sad bc I'm sure its messed up ppl experience.

@@Anti-HeroTV Oh, forgot to mention this other fun fact. As this was before the age of leaks over the internet, it was much more straightforward to keep movie twists secret. Obviously the whole "Vader is the father" thing was a big deal and if that got out before the movie's release, it would have been a disaster. The script everyone had instead had a plot point that they were setting up as a decoy. In it Vader would tell Luke "Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father." to which Luke gave the proper response as in the film of "He told me enough, he told me you killed him". Vader's plot twist line was written in the script as "No, Obi-Wan killed your father." That was what everyone who worked on the movie was being told, that Obi-Wan had killed Anakin and that Vader just dropped the truth bomb on Luke. So, the day of shooting the reveal scene came and everyone was on set getting ready to go. Literally moments before Mark Hamill was to go on set to film, he gets pulled aside by Irvin Kershner who was the director of the movie this time. Irvin tells Mark "so I know it, George Lucas knows it, and after I tell you, you'll know it, so If it gets out, we know it was you" and hands him a slip of paper with the snippet of script but with "I am your father" on it. So Mark goes up on set and while the actor in the Vader suit is reading the script lines as normal, Mark in his head was reacting to the reveal that they were going to have to add later in post production, imagining the lines in his head and acting against that rather than the Vader actor's lines. Given how early in production it was, Mark had to keep the secret for a year and a half before it finally came out in the 1980 release. In the theater when the movie came out, Harrison Ford was sitting next to Mark and leaned over to him, saying "Hey kid, you didn't fucking tell me that..."

i was so happy to see you not know anything about the I am your father to luke thing.or at least not know the context. i can tell you back when i was 6 and saw this movie in the theaters. we had to wait 3 years for Return of the jedi. and for three years, all of us were dtabint with each other, as were teens and adults. of weather or not he really is the father, or if he lied to Luke about that to get in his head to try to turn him. and i tell you, the color schmes and imagery. particularly toward the later part. in that room with the freezing chamber the smoke with the dark blues and oranges, and then when luke in that same thing with the black figure of vader, and the red/ and blue sabler. it is just amazing

The reason why the emperor looks the way he looks is never fully explained in the movies, but like Yoda said, the Dark-side is faster, easier. Meaning, using the dark gives you a fast power-up. It's like a drug, a performance enhancer, but it is not natural and your body fights it and the darkness takes a toll on your body. So a Dark-side user becomes more powerful in a shorter time than a Light-side user, mostly due to negative emotions overwhelming him, like rage, greed, pain, suffering. But your body begins to age faster and you become like the emperor. The Light-side takes more time and also relies on cooperation with other Light-side users.

it's amazing how realistic Yoda looks to us, even though he's clearly a doll. As for the changes made in the movie, I think that it's in this episode that they're the most relevant. For example, in Cloud City, often where in the original movie there were just white walls, in the new version has windows with a view of the city outside. simple but genius idea!

@@Anti-HeroTV actually this is literally the only no one complains about because the changes actually work. They were some enhanced, improved and added effects, adding the Clear shots of the Wampa snow creature to make it more menacing, adding beautiful CGI scenes of cloud city, where they were all flat painted backgrounds before, adding windows with city views outside the city, as already mentioned, and that scene where Lando tells everyone to leave and it shows hundreds of people outside the city. Oh they also changed the voice of the bounty hunter Boba Fett. You'll have to see the prequels to understand why. As far as his helmet, he's not the Mandalorian but has the same kind of armor

perfect reaction! i love this series, and had so much fun watching ☺ this is definitely one of the best in the franchise, especially with its iconic reveal. and the prequels & return of the jedi just get better and better from here lol. at least imo. anyway, i just wanted to clarify that while luke did have a bit of a crush on leia in the last one, leia really only ever kissed him to like, make han jealous, or just as a friend while he's injured, like in this one. so the love triangle is a bit debatable haha also, wanted to put my recommendation again of watching the prequels next! to get anakin's story first, before the finale. its such a tragic, and incredible story, and i cant wait to see your reaction to them! i've heard people say this is the "machete order", but i believe that order actually says to skip episode i, phantom menace, which i Do Not recommend! so. slight difference, but yeah haha. i actually did watch someone else recently who watched 4 5 2 3 6 for the first time, and it was a mess 😅 i felt so bad for him skipping episode one and having no context for ep 2. but yeah anyway, if you do watch 1 2 3 next, i just hope you have fun with it! ☺

While this has to do indirectly with these movies, have you ever seen any of the "Robot Chicken" parodies? They seem to do it for a lot of things, but there were a couple of episodes devoted mainly to Star Wars. One of my favourites is of Darth Vader altering the deal with Lando Calrissian. For that bit, Billy Dee Williams reprised his role as Lando. Anthony Daniels is also in another one as C-3PO.

There was never a love triangle. Leia was never "interested" in Luke. So she gave him a kiss on the cheek in first movie but it was for luck and innocent. Now in Empire she only kissed him because Han was being full of himself. And as far as the second kiss on the cheek when they rescue Luke she was just giving him a kiss on the cheek cause she was happy to see her friend. There was never a love triangle.

imo they never established that. with how Luke was acting & his convo w/ Solo last movie there was no point Leia made her feelings known before her makeout with Solo. "...this monster just hung him up like some meat?..." [a few seconds later] "...maybe so..." This made me laugh. :) "...is he injured..." In real life, he was. The main reason for the whole getting smacked by a wampa (the monster) thing was because Mark Hamill got in a vehicle accident before filming and they didn't want to have to try to cover it up. Now there's an excuse for the scars! In the _movie,_ he was hit by a bit monster, hung upside down for a long time, and is now wandering in the cold... _all_ of that is _very not good_ for your health. "...how about you send somebody to get the proof..." That's what the probe droids are supposed to supply. You might, at best, send another probe. Sending _people_ is expensive, and you can't chase down every lead (they said they had hundreds of the things). "...that looks like the helmet of the dude that's on The Mandalorian..." Correct. 'Mandalorian' is a group of people, and that character is one of them. "...this came out in 1980...?" Kinda. You're watching the Special Edition, which was released in 1997 with new scenes and CGI... pretty much _all_ of which is either unnecessary _or_ makes the movies _worse._ You got some extra CGI of the city on Bespin, for instance, which is what impressed you, _but_ there were _some_ shots of it that _weren't_ CGI. So... still pretty impressive. "...I dunno how they be livin' on her planet..." They... don't. Her planet got blown up in the first movie. :P In fact, she's _really_ just a 'princess' in name only at this point. "...bro didn't even say it back..." Yeah, but he's been making his feelings pretty clear for the _entire_ movie up to this point. "...what kind a luck was that!?..." Ah yes, the plot armor is thick with this one. ... Maybe the Force was involved, but honestly I just think it was plot armor. "...now she out here kissing Luke again..." Well, it _was_ a kiss on the forehead. There _was_ a time, not so long ago, when little bits of affection like that weren't the ultimate taboo that they've become in the last few decades. That's something that goes up and down in culture. "...'why did he lie to me'... which I feel like that was a mistake..." Was it? Let's look at this from the beginning. Luke runs into Obi-Wan on Tatooine. They've just met. Is this the right time to say 'yo, your dad is the most even being in the galaxy'? ... Likely not, they just met. A little while later, Luke's aunt and uncle, effectively his parents, are dead. Seem like a good time to bring this up? In the cantina? While taking the short flight to Alderaan? Sometime on the Death Star? ... And that's it. Obi-Wan _dies_ on the Death Star, he runs out of time to tell him this horrific thing. And remember that finding out about this nearly broke Luke. I'm not sure it'd really be any easier if his life _wasn't_ in danger at the time. Sometimes there's just... never a good moment, especially when time is short and you don't know it will be. Nice reaction. I look forward to your viewing of the next one.

glad I could make you laugh & enjoy watching it with me! with the proof it seems weird to send probes & then dismiss when they pick up on something. I understood his reasonings bc of the area & the vague info but dismissing it seemed weird can't wait to see the Mandalorian series & learn about them everything seemed great to me but I can't speak on which is better since I haven't seen the original copy just because her planet was blown up doesn't mean her culture/customs are dead lol. I remembered what happened but I know their customs didn't just leave her. I was just making a joke bc the line was golden. it was hilarious & more in character than saying it back but had to have a laugh about it. Plot armor is THICK lol. I'ma go with the force being used 🫣 Idk what the relationships are going to develop to but I thought she liked Luke bc of the kiss in the beginning but then she showed her feelings for Solo so I thought it was continued love triangle bc I didn't think she would use him just to make Solo jealous but ppl are lowkey hinting she doesn't like Luke so idk lol. I went off what I saw through the whole movie 🥴 can't wait to see more of how the lore develops 👏🏽

Actually she did kiss him on the lips but a quick peck, I think for comfort coz he was in trauma and she was stressed out by what was happening. And, again, none of the CGI makes THIS movie worse. It only had some negative affect in the other two movies, but minor.
@robindude8187 Жыл бұрын
@@briansview2886 The extended conversation between Vader and the Emperor pads the run time and is worse than the original. I _did_ mention that there were 'added scenes' _as well as_ the CGI. Still, at least for _this_ movie it's a fairly minor complaint, nothing that really wrecks the thing. You're right that the changes in the other two are _far_ worse. I'm especially annoyed at the Greedo shot in the first one, and the replacement ending of the third. Seriously, that song at the end of the third was _awesome_ and now it's _gone!_ As for the kiss... oops. My bad.

@@Anti-HeroTV *just because her planet was blown up doesn't mean her culture/customs are dead* Maybe. Jewish culture and customs survived them not having a place of their own. But they did so by having a religion to cling to, and having moved around together in a world that was very focused on such things. It's hard to say if the same would survive much for Alderaan. I think it's more like what would happen if Texas blew up and maybe a hundred people got out. Most likely, they'd just... assimilate into other states around them and 'Texas culture' would vanish near instantly. Same with the whole USA blowing up and a few thousand surviving. They'd be absorbed into other countries, and 'American culture' would vanish. The _Jews_ did it because their _culture_ was religiously based rather than _geographically_ based (and, most likely, they _lost_ a _lot_ of their culture which _was_ geographically based). Though, of course, you're correct in that she would be following her own customs to an extent, for a while, before she, too, assimilated. *it was hilarious & more in character than saying it back but had to have a laugh about it.* Oh _entirely_ agreed. *I didn't think she would use him just to make Solo jealous but ppl are lowkey hinting she doesn't like Luke* Whether she did or didn't use him that way is very difficult to say. But she definitely likes Luke. And Han. You'll see in the next movie. It's the end of a trilogy, so they have to wrap that sort of thing up. And, of course, they can't be polyamorous because people wouldn't accept that. Have a nice day!

Nope the Jedi were a cult that started the training as infants. In episode 1 they try saying Anakin at the age of 9 is too old to start training. In this episode you learn just how full of it they really are. Obi-wan told Luke Vader killed his father instead of telling him the truth because both Yoda and Obi-Wan were counting on Luke killing Vader. Something much easier to do when you think you're taking out the person responsible for your father's death instead of your actual father. The also wanted to sacrifice Han, Leia and Chewie not to protect Luke but to keep Luke from learning the actual truth of who Vader was.
