I know most won't agree but I hate Rise of Skywalker more than Last Jedi. TLJ ruined Luke, that's the worse thing it did, but I can accept a fallen hero that redeemed himself with his death, that's exactly what his father did. By the end the old generation sacrificed itself for the new. TLJ didn't retroactively ruin old movies. You could ignore it and still live happily knowing that the OG characters still made a difference. ROS ruined that, Palestine being alive (or a clone you basically need to read side content to find that out) retroactively ruins Anakin's redemption. Even if Luke failed as a Jedi later in life it didn't erase what he had done in the past...until now. Almost everything bad in TLJ could have been retconned, but they didn't do that. There were a few interesting elements TLJ introduced that weren't followed up, like new generations of force sensitive children around the galaxy, but that was ignored. Finn was sidelined again. Kylo carried the whole trilogy, do we get him living and trying to live the rest of his life redeeming his family legacy? Nope, dies anticlimactically with last minute romance that added nothing.

35:04 Lando, and like...half the known galaxy somehow made it to Exegol. Exegol...which is in the unknown regions. Which is largely unexplored due to being nearly impossible to navigate. There are a few reasons for this, including but not limited to...the constantly shifting hyperspace lanes, nihilistic force cults that worship destructive entropy, madness inducing soul-sucking wraiths made of the dark side of the force (according to the Jedi), and gigantic space monsters the size of the DEATH STAR! But, even if you excluded ALL of that, Lando and the fleet finding there way there doesn't even make sense by this movies own logic. Kylo Ren and Rey required either a Sith wayfinder or following someone who had already been there before (which also makes no sense), the movie established this early on. Lando and the fleet possessed NONE of those. So, one has to wonder (with previous reasons or not) how in the hell they managed to even get there at all, let alone be present for the final battle. Even if they had recieved some transmission of coordinates, it's the unknown regions. If it were that easy to circumvent the difficulties of navigating it, I'm thinking it would have been done a long time ago. This movie totally dissolved the mystique of the unknown regions.

In the comics that Disney retconned and threw out, Palpatine transferred his consciousness with sith techniques to a clone body. Those comics had Luke turning to the dark side to experience what his father went through, then Leia brought him back to the light and Palpatine killed for good. And this completed Luke’s arc of becoming a master of Light and Dark.

DEATH STAR!!! Ok, so FUN FACT: Episode 9 wasn’t originally directed by JJ Abrams. The original director of Episode 9 was Colin Trevorrow (Director of Jurassic World). And after Episode 9 was released, a draft of the script for when he was still in the production was leaked online, and instead of “Rise of Skywalker” it was “Duel of the Fates”. With this leak, it showed fans another potential ending to this trilogy as it was completely different compared to the current final product. There were some great ideas and also some questionable ones thrown in there, I mean it was still in draft stage I guess. First big difference, NO PALPAPINE. Kylo Ren truly became the big bad final boss. I can’t remember if there were new plot reveals for Rey’s backstory (Other than her last name being “Solana” so she would’ve been “Rey Solana”). Rey also turned the broken Anakin lightsaber into a Dual-Wield lightsaber like Maul’s. Rose was relevant and active. Finn would lead a Galactic uprising/revolution with the other’s against the First Order in Coruscant in the final battle while Rey and Kylo fought at another place that you would find out about in the Clone Wars show. There were still a lot of other stuff too but these were one’s I could remember at the moment of writing this. But at the end of the day, this was just a draft of the script for the original Episode 9. A draft. But it did provide what could’ve been. A “What If” scenario. Would it have been a better film? Maybe? Who could say? But in my opinion, I would’ve preferred this original route, with a few more re-drafts and re-writes and polish, I guess.

@roycebracket1010 Well, i would definitely recommend watching it if you get the chance, but to explain a lot of the Clone Wars episodes, essentially go by an episode to episode basis of "this is the story we are telling this episode or this little 3 episode arc or whatever." In that sense, a lot of them you can see as one-off stories that happened in the clone warsyou don't necessarily need to see the entire series to enjoy. The thing about that is you kind of get the feeling that especially early on, they were still working out the kind of stories they could tell in the series. As spoiler free as I can make this, a character introduced, named Cad Bane, is introduced working on this one mission in one episode... and the fallout and events related to that mission are not picked up on until seasons later. Watching the show just in terms of episode release order isn't bad. You're still going to have a good time. You can only do as much as you can with what you are given. It takes really PRIME actors to be able to elevate a movie by their presence alone and actually salvage something out of it. Here unfortunatly the Only Legacy cast member that actually gave a fuck was Mark Hamill, Ford as been asking to kill off his character for the past 40 years so that he doesn't have to deal with all this shit anymore. Carrie did what she could. And the rest, ar enot bad actors, but as a young actor you don't go against what the Direction tells you to do,and thus these movies suffers from what the Prequels suffered, stuffed/bad dialogues that sound like its coming from Exposition machines rather than people actually talking to each others. And thats putting aside that the Plot of each movie is Nonsensical to the MAX. -Ep7 = basicly a copy/past of A Newx Hope -Ep8= half of the movie leads nowhere, serves no purpose and is a total waste of time -Ep9= as no direction, going completly blind, with the characters thumbling in the dark from one plot contrivance to the next Its painfull to watch

Since the rest of the comments has made their grievances apparent (on this and every other Star Wars video online), I might as well actually point out some fun facts. Threepio's actor, Anthony Daniels, is the only actor to be in every mainline movie. The portions with Leia were filmed before Carrie Fisher passed away. The scenes on that planet are all deleted scenes from other movies tweaked and voice edited. It's why her death scene is in shadow like that. It's how they kept Leia relevant while still giving her dignified death scene. The "Festival only happens every 42 years" is a reference to how it many years it was between the release of "A New Hope" and "Rise" The repairs to Ren's helmet were based on Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken objects with gold, though obviously he used a different material. BB8 recharging D-0 with a bit of his own charge is pretty much him copying Rey and the cave worm and that's a little detail I like. When they first enter Babu Frik's shop, the old human with an eyepatch is John Williams, the composer for most of Star Wars' music and beyond. When Leia had a Force vision showing she would go down a path she didn't like, she opted to give being a Jedi to avoid that path.. Unlike her bio dad that had a Force vision and decided he could have his wedding cake and be a Jedi too.

I knew they were gonna bring Palpatine back, but I thought it was going to be a lot more cool an explanation than we got. I guessed since Force Ghosts were a thing, the Sith probably had some vampiric phantom version where they have to constantly drain life from others and even possess them, almost like demons. Having Palpatine possessing the most corrupt, hate filled people around to leech off of them until they become broken husks, and I thought it'd have Kylo Ren become a unwilling host and needing an Jedi Exorcism. The Movie explanation? He's just somehow back.

Then in Episode 8, They introduce Rose Tico because we can't have a black/ white interracial relationship. But the character of Rose became so disliked, they cut her part out almost completely for this movie. THEN they pursue the Kylo/ Rey romance which NOBODY ASKED FOR!!! The only saving grace for me is the theory of the Rey/ Finn/ Poe love (Fin like Rey/ Poe, Poe Likes Finn).

I thought that I was over Star Wars after seeing this movie. Star Wars has been a huge part of my life since I was little. Being born in 1993, I grew up on both trilogies. So it was just sad to see such a big part of my life being squandered by shitty writers who completely break the rules of a universe I thought I understood. So I figured I was done with Star Wars. Then after playing so many Zelda games for the first time, Zelda became my favorite franchise. But then last summer, I started playing Episode 1: Racer on my N64, and Shadows of the Empire on my laptop. Then I played Republic Commando on my Xbox Series S. Then I decided to buy and play the old Battlefront games and loved them, especially the second one. Then I bought the entire Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series and also loved them. Then Revenge of the Sith, since the PS2 copy I have is in rough shape anyway. I also got The Force Unleashed 1 and 2, the more recent Battlefront games, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and The Clone Wars from the early 2000s, which is probably my least favorite Star Wars game, but it's still alright. Listening to Sam Witwer talking about Star Wars in some videos on KZbin also played a part in rekindling my relationship with the Star Wars franchise. So long as I don't bother with the Sequels, I think I will continue to love Star Wars.

Death Star What makes this trilogy such a disaster is that it undid the achievements of the past heroes. The Rebellion didn’t succeed in toppling the empire, Luke failed to restore the Jedi, Anakin didn’t destroy the sith and bring balance to the force, their stories are reduced to backstory and then they die. Palpatine succeeded in destroying everything Anakin cared for, his wife, his son and daughter, and his descendants, the very thing that drove him to sacrifice his life. In the end, Darth Vader turning back to the light is made pointless because everything he achieve was undone anyway.

Deathstar So, Disney recently came out saying that they didn't have a plan for the Sequel trilogy.... Which is BS because if they hadn't made all the Expanded/Legend Universe books noncanon they could've used that. There is quite literally a comic (And maybe a book or two) on Palpatine coming back as a Clone where Luke turns to the Dark Side of the Force only to then betray the newly reborn Sith Lord so he could kill him permanently. Han doesn't die, Leia doesn't die, Luke doesn't die and all of them go on to bigger, better adventures where Luke's new Jedi Order includes his and Leia's kids, she has three and he has one with one of the best, now noncanon female characters Mara Jade. Usually don’t make multiple comments but didn’t make any comments on this film. It… I want to like it. Just like TLJ there are things I like. The whole trilogy was unfocused. Rian Johnson destroyed Luke, so JJ didn’t have Luke to use with Carrie Fisher having passed away. So we got footage from Force Awakens frankenstein’d into these scenes with Rey or weird shots with a body double from behind. Not to mention JJ Abrams basically tried to undo TLJ after its backlash which led to an even more uneven story in this film. Then killing Kylo and leaving the Skywalker name to Rey, who was just given everything and could instantly do everything, and who was a Palpatine. It’s an infuriating ending that the franchise really hasn’t recovered from. Love Mandalorian but they can throw CGI Mark Hamill at me a day, but I still know where Disney decided to make Luke end up.

This movie was a series of blunders (honestly IMO the entire trilogy was). It shows that they basically had zero solid idea what they wanted to do with the story and characters (the two directors didn't help). And of course this was in the middle/end of GoT hype so their idea of unexpected and "mystery box" just killed the trilogy. See: Snoke is the villain, but we kill him with no trouble! But Palpatine (somehow) returned! Or Rey's parentage: somebody important (theories went from Kenobi, Skywalker and Palpatine) - nobody important - Palpatine's granddaughter. Finn (what did he want to tell Rey?+ his arc). Rose... new lady whos name I don't even recall, Exagol (wayfinder, half the Galaxy turned up /not for Leia by the way/, build 1000 star destroyer) Luke's character, the chase in episode 8 (and Holdo's idiocy), (and just tactics in episode 8, bombers, hyper ram...), the casino scene... Anyone knows who Maz Katana was in episode 7 and her story? It is a mess. Too many characters whos story don't go anywhere or just forgotten altogether, the few story we get got retconned in the next movie. edit: And I still haven't forgiven that it wasn't the Thrawn Trilogy that was made instead. Just The Last Command and Mara Jade would have made it better than this trilogy let alone the entire series.

So many of these scenes and plot "twists" and all that would have irked me to no end. How did Palpatine survive? Why did he have kids? Why didn't he use the Final Order fleet when he was building the Second Death Star? How is the "Holdo Maneuver" a one-in-a-million thing? What stopped the entire galaxy from weaponizing hyperdrives for thousands of years? Why did Palpatine give the exact knife needed to reach his super-secret base to an assassin sent to kill his child and spouse? Why did the entire galaxy ignore the Resistance's calls for help against a couple First Order ships, but came storming in when it was a thousand Star Destroyers? The questions are endless, the answers are practically non-existent, and this movie has killed my faith in a good Star Wars movie ever coming out again.

Disney did answer the first two questions in a comic, though the reasons are crap Palpatine's soul transferred into a clone body after Episode 6. His clone body couldn't contain his soul well which is why it looks so rotten. Palpatine didn't have a child the natural way. His son is one of the many failed clones that he made as he's not force sensitive. The son escaped Exegol and married Rey's mother while in hiding. Snoke was also one of the products of Palpatine's experiments.

Don't give Disney an out it doesn't deserve. It was completely inexcusable to have no idea how their trilogy was going to end before they even finished storyboarding the first film. With all the resources and talent Lucasfilm and Disney had on tap. I'm not disputing how obnoxious the fanbase can be, but every flaw and shortcoming these movies put out is entirely on Lucasfilm and its own ineptitude.

That hurts, don't insult Korra like that (joking)

One major problem that the writers and the, few, fans failed to realize is that Palpatine got what he wanted, and according to the dialog he should now be possessing Rey's body.

There is so much wrong with the Disney trilogy it's hard to summarize. Ep 7: The force never Awakend, Rey beat a trained Jedi/Sith in Lightsaber combat. Ep 8: Luke's whole character is not Luke at all, Rey within than 48 hours (Last move and this one) is on par with Kylo/Ben as a trained Jedi/Sith, the Red Gaurd fight had ass pull coriagraphy to save Rey's life, Rey lifted more objects than any Jedi/Sith ever (again with less than 48 hours of training), Rose saves Finn and tells him to stop saving his friend to save his friends, Snoke was a a nothing villain. Ep 9: Rey finally gets training, Palpatine randomly returns for nistalga bait, same for Lando, sadly, Rey randomly uses force lightning to bait and switch "Kill" Chewbacca, Rey randomly learned on a whim the very force power Anakin needed to avoid becoming a Sith, Rey did not become all the Sith after killing Palpatine like he wanted her to do to him, the knights of Ren finally show up only to die by the man that leads them, Rey is the new chosen one because a woman has to do it and because f*** men.

Palpatine's resurrection was explained in other media sources. Since Sith can't return as Force Ghosts like Jedi because they're too concerned with worldly desires, Palpatine was trying to become immortal by creating clones of himself. Just before he was killed by Darth Vader, he transferred his spirit to one of them. The Dark Side causes the body to rot, hence why he looked all rotten. One of his clones wasn't Force sensitive, so while it didn't rot, it was useless to Palpatine, so he discarded it. That clone was Rey's father, thus making Rey his "granddaughter". Yeah, it was a... creative choice for sure.

then at least attempt to explain it in the movie you're showing him completely out of left field. It's still a dumb explanation and i doubt it would have changed anything, but at least make the attempt instead of just going "Somehow he's back. Major bummer, i guess." it spits in the face of every fan.

The Last Jedi got a lot of hate for trying to change things up. So much so that Lucasfilm over corrected for this one. They brought back the director from Force Awakens who completely rewrite the whole movie. The down side of their initial plan of having each movie have a different writer and director was already that it made it feel disjointed because the different directors were interested in exploring other aspects rather than what the previous one set up. Then this one happened and it was almost like it enhanced all those problems.

Fun fact: In a comic that Disney deemed no longer canon, it was revealed that Palpatine influenced the midi-chlorians in Shmi's womb to birth Anakin. So technically, Anakin is Palpatine's son, which makes Luke his grandson, and Ben his great-grandson. If Rey is his granddaughter, technically, that makes Rey and Ben cousins, which somehow makes their romance subplot worse than it already is.

I’ll never forget how destroyed my Dad felt as we left the theater from watching this. We were genuinely curious how the story would go since the last jedi had left everyone in interesting spots- only for Rise of Skywalker to just be like “Uh… never mind! Go back! Go back!”

So what happened was there was huge fan backlash for episode 8 so they basically went back on every good idea that movie had and made the most generic scifi action movie they could. With as much "fan service" thrown in as possible. And rose was surprisingly one of the things got a lot of hate for some reason. Death stars... death stars everywhere.

Ep8 had NO GOOD IDEAS I have no clue of what you are talking about
@justinschmelzel880617 сағат бұрын
@Mugthraka Rey actually developed in that movie, Poe developed in that movie, Finn developed in that movie. Rey being from nowhere was an amazing idea showing you don't have to be from someplace special to be special. Kylo was set up as irredeemable big bad, which is new and interesting for star wars. We seem to have no issue with "emperor irredeemable" but if we see the persons decent they have to be redeemable for some reason. Episode 8 was the best sequel. There is a reason Hamill LOVED everyone elses part.
