i think you were right when you said the hand is like a metaphor for drugs tbh, i also like that there's the dimension of the kids filming people using it on their phones, because i fully believe that's what would happen. especially a certain kind of teenager these days, it's their first instinct to just whip out the phone and start filming (even if it's just, like, a stranger doing something weird in public). i also feel like the "why are things bleeding through" thing which ultimately has no form answer reflects the fact that they are all absolutely convinced that they know how the hand works and what the limits are, how long you can use it before you need to stop, but ultimately they're messing with something they absolutely cannot control and don't know exactly how it works. the hand is still a mystery to them. they're messing with something they don't understand, but because they THINK they know the rules, they think they're invincible.

Requiem was traumatic for me and this is definitely the same motif: addiction / self-harm. I feel you. I think the "genre" you're talking about is known as trauma porn. It's just blatant human suffering - not really scary or thrilling, just dark & depressing.

dude when riley started going for his eye that was when i had to look away for a few seconds like holy fucking shit💀💀 i love gore in horror movies but eye stuff always gets me lol. anyways i saw this on patreon already but i fully agree with you, i'm the eldest of 4 and if anybody tried to get my younger siblings to do that shit.. they best hope they can fight💀

I hated Mia but I also saw where she was coming from. She wanted to speak to her mom and get closure so badly, and she put everyone in danger because of that. I loved this movie and would watch it a million times tbh

i love this movie !! i went to see it in theatres 3 times haha .. but yes Michael and Danny are the RackaRacka yt channel and they directed this film !! this whole movie is a big commentary on peer pressure, grief and drug addiction .. the cinematography in this movie is stunning, everyone did great with acting especially miss Sophie Wilde .. very excited for the sequel .. also how does everyone blame Mia for what happened to Riley 😭 his authority figure literally said no and then left the room and left him in there with everyone and the hand lol like what .. Jade was a shit sister in my opinion Riley shouldn’t have even been in the room .. like yes Mia is part of the reason Riley got hurt but with all the times i’ve seen this i’ve watched this i never once just automatically blamed her .. the poor thing was talking to her dead mama .. id do the same 🤷🏼‍♀️ he ain’t my brother ..

It's so insane how many people compare it to Hereditary in the sense that the feelings of dread both movies leave you with are so strong.. only those two horror movies have managed to do that for me ever. (Requiem for a dream is in its separate league, that one was just straight up lifetime scar)

I love the opening so much… we barely get to process that Duckett stabbed his brother in the shoulder before stabbing himself in the head Also you’re not alone on hating Mia, I felt for her and was sympathetic until she went against Jade and let Riley mess with the hand

Mia's friends suck. Like yeah she did some dumb shit, but she's grieving and desperate. Can you imagine it's the anniversary of your best mate's mum dying and you, one, don't even remember or check on her and, two, blow her off to chat with your boyfriend?? Like I cant hate Mia. I just feel real fuckin sorry for her.
