I met Bruce Campbell about six years ago. He was doing a book signing at Forbidden Planet and the queue (here in London) must have been about 150 metres or more long. He's awesome. If you like him, his show Burn Notice was excellent (and ran for many successful seasons), being basically a 'James Bond-like superspies sorting out local hoodlum problems in Miami in the style of the A Team' premise but with amazing, original writing. Evil Dead 2 is like Evil Dead 1 but cranked-up and awesome. Including one of my favourite movie lines "whoooossseeee lauggghhhingg NNOOOOWWWWWWW!!!" (context required!)

The 'tree-rape' scene is very interesting to me because the sexual assault angle was dropped from later movies in order to make them slightly more approachable to audiences but I actually think it's one of the things that makes Evil Dead 1 stand out from the others in the franchise. Rape can be a really difficult subject to discuss for a lot of people but that's sort of my point - as a scene, it works brilliantly to evoke a sense of visceral discomfort. You very much get the sensation that what is happening to Cheryl isn't just awful, it's straight-up unnatural and wrong and it makes the forces in the woods seem all the more malevolent and cruel as a result.

Evil Dead was Sam Raimi's first feature film released independently in theaters. Prior to that, he and his neighborhood friends would just make films for the hell of it. He was only 20 years old at that time , but stylistically, you can see a lot of the visual techniques he began to develop and use later as a major Hollywood Director. The yellow Oldsmobile in the film was Sam's actual car, and it shows up along with Bruce Campbell in nearly every film he has ever done. There's an excellent documentary or two about the making of the Evil Dead on KZbin that you might find interesting as well. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the other films in the franchise! Keep up the good work! Love the dress!🔥❤👀

Awesome reaction to this horror classic, probably one of the TOP 4 reactions!!!! Can remember when I first saw this movie in about 1984 or 1985. I was at the local video store (anyone remember those???) and saw the artwork on the cover of the VHS (remember those anyone???). Thought the artwork was awesome so - NOT knowing anything about this movie nor never heard of it - decided to rent it for the night. Got home, was alone, put the VHS into the recorder, turned off the lights, and..... let's just say that this is one of the very few movies to scare the doo-doo out of me at the age of 22. Could NOT sleep with the lights off for about 3-months or so. Also, since I was a kid, I would also have literal Demon-themed dreams up until about my mid-30s (realized that those Demon-themed dreams were a warning about my alcoholism for, once stopped drinking about 30-years ago, no longer have those dreams). Also, this movie was a lot like: "Jaws", "Night of the Living Dead", "The Exorcist", "The Omen" and others from the era because, like the other movies mentioned, basically it was THE FIRST movie to venture into its respective genre. NOTHING like this movie was ever seen before - thus the impact it has, just like the other movies mentioned. Now a days, these types of movies are a dime-a-dozen and really do not scare like the groundbreaking movies did back in the 1960s-1980s. Now, any self-respecting cabin-in-the-woods themed movie will have the same look/feel to it (you need to check out "Cabin in the Woods" & "Cabin Fever"). The MILK is supposed to represent the demonic possession. Forget what the movie makers wanted to use, but MILK was on hand, so it was used. The oatmeal-guts were actual oatmeal because they really did not know what else to do to get the effect they wanted. The POV of the Demon chasing the characters through the woods was created by Sam Raimi & Bruce Campbell placing the camera on a board and just running with it - ingenius!! The girl that played Cheryl and had the tree "encounter" did all her own stunts and was actually scratched/bruised up in real life because she was athletic and really enjoyed doing what the movie needed, + it was COLD during the shooting and here she is running in that skimpy outfit falling in puddles of water/mud and doing whatever. The upside-down view of Ash near the end of the movie was Sam Raimi actually dangling from the rafters with the camera. The BOOBIE scenes were part of the movie because, well, that's what you did back in those days - have an obligatory "boobie" scene. Some scenes were shot in one of the actors garage with black curtains. The "Making of..." of this movie is quite interesting what with the lack of budget they had. Hope you give "Evil Dead II" & "Army of Darkness" a try like other people have mentioned in the comments.

I never realized how important the mirror scene was. Ash reached out to touch the mirror just as a way of reaffirming reality. _The Evil Dead_ is absolutely an important movie and worth seeing for anyone who wants to get into understanding the Horror movie genre, but _Evil Dead II_ is _really_ the one you need to see. _The Evil Dead_ was basically a no-budget film made by a couple of old school buddies (Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell) wanting to break into the movie business, using whatever actors they could find to fill out the cast, and financed by relatives, friends, and local businesses. They really only chose to go with Horror because in the early '80s they knew they could sell a no-budget schlock Horror film easier than any other genre. And they happened to strike gold with it, gaining a cult following immediately, including Stephen King who helped spread the word. After a few years and a lot more filmmaking experience later they decided to revisit their original work, and the result was _Evil Dead II,_ where Sam and Bruce's hearts _really_ got into it by mixing the Horror with their true love: Comedy. _Evil Dead II_ is a movie you _need_ to see. and then _Army of Darkness_ is the rest of the story: not quite as good as the second film, and a lot more comedic, but it also has some of the most badass movie moments in history. Ash goes from a Male Final Girl in the first film to become one of the *most legendary* snarky movie badasses throughout the second two movie, and you'll very likely recognize some of his lines because they've been absorbed into pop culture.

@@SektorSieben But you sounded like these movie reactors and other commentators saying films like The Evil Dead, original Halloween, original Night Of The Living Dead, The Exorcist and others are funny not gross scary, terrifying, but funny it's disturbing to me.

I have to admit, horror is not my genre but I just love your channel. You do such a great job breaking down the story and pointing out things that we don’t always pick up on. As always, you look amazing! Totally rocking that outfit.

I saw this when it came out at the theater. Little did we know that Sam Raimi would go on to direct blockbusters like Spider-Man. And that Bruce Campbell (Ash) would become an icon. Bruce also has memorable smaller roles such as in Escape From L.A., Sky High and Spider-Man. Many other roles inclding many "B" movies as the star and mutiple TV series as well. But he will always will be Ash Williams to his legion of adoring fans (me included). BTW, if you ever get the chance to see the play, be sure to sit in the first 3 rows. It is a bloody good time haha.

If you want some quality horror/suspense and have never seen it hard to believe you haven’t but if not you really should watch “the shinning” directed by Kubrick

What an be said about this trilogy? True gruesome horror, Sam Raimi at his weirdest camera angles finest, the beginning of horrorcon comicon, etc. my friends met Bruce at several! He was also in Congo, and a western series, a revolutionary war series, and other trippy movies. This movie really changed the horror game!! Even the recent series, ashe vs evil dead, was spectacular! Plus watch all Raimi movies, including first Spiderman, and Drag me to Hell!😮😮😮
