So while Vin Diesel is the face of F&F now he actually didn’t really want anything to do with the series after the first one Paul Walker was the public face of the franchise for years (he was an actual street racer) he actually convinced Vin to come back and make the series a thing with Fast & Furious (4th movie) It’s one of the reasons Paul and Vin became such good friends, Paul’s passion for racing and Vins action centric movie style.

Hey Seb, not sure if you know this, but Tokyo Drift is not just a sequel to Fast and Furious - but it's also a spin-off of a movie called Better Luck Tomorrow that came out in 2002. Han originated in that movie. Check it out if you have the time.

This falls in line with some Robert Rodriquez films with characters from his previous films showing up in future franchises. (Machete being in Spy Kids LOL)

Fun Fact: Brian Tee (the actor that plays Drift King in this movie) plays Dr. Ethan Choi in the Chicago Med TV series. 9:15 That car is a 1997 Mazda RX-7 (FD) with a Veilside "Fortune" body kit (aptly-named, as the kit alone costs about $17,000, not including installation). 9:20 The man is saying "Okane" (Money) because Sean didn't pay to get it yet. 9:25 The big dude in this scene actually has a very interesting real-life backstory. So... when they were filming Tokyo Drift, the director (Justin Lin) technically filmed illegally, because he couldn't get a filming permit in Tokyo. So he hired a "fall guy" to say he was the director if the cops came to arrest him. The fall guy (the big dude in this scene) is a Hawai'ian man named Saleva'a Fuauli Atisano'e (stage name: Konishiki Yasokichi). Also he was the first non-Japanese person to reach the rank of Ouzeki (the second-highest rank in pro sumo wrestling). 10:07 That's Mahjong. It's a kind of Chinese tile game. Popular in most east Asian countries. 10:40 Never really found out if that's true. Because Japan has Skyline GT-Rs as cop cars, too. And at about 300 horsepower, could catch like 99% of unmodified Japanese cars. Also, Han's RX-7 made around 400 horsepower. 10:59 While Sean is 17 there, Japan's age of majority is actually 20, not 18. Also, to that end, in Japan you have to be 20 to get a license. 11:19 During this scene, the fisherman wearing blue is actually the real-life Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya. He also did most of the drifting for this movie. 12:35 I *LOVE* how strongly they emphasized Han's past without actually giving us any of it (which pays off later, you'll see). 12:45 That silver and blue car is a Nissan Skyline (BCNR33) GT-R, same as Leon's from the first movie (though this one doesn't appear to be a V-spec model). 13:09 The mountain that we see all the togue (mountain drifting) happening on is actually the San Gabriel Dam in Los Angeles. It's actually a very rude term. 19:38 That's a 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. So they actually had flip smartphones way before we had early smartphones. 20:15 In Japanese tradition, missing fingers are indicative of a yakuza member that has done something shameful/bad enough that it warranted severe punishment. Originally, the purpose of this punishment was to render it much more difficult for one to wield a katana/sword. I grew up in a suburb of Vancouver, Canada, and the whole area has a large Asian population, particularly Richmond, which apparently looks like a dragon as you’re flying in. It’s also literally underwater and houses are built on slabs of concrete. But if you’ve ever driven there, you’ll notice that it’s full of kids driving these kinds of cars. We used to call this movie “Richmond Drift” because so many kids had cars that could do that in Richmond. I used to love going there on a Friday night in high school because it was like I was in a Fast and Furious movie - in my 1990 Acura Integra. 😂

Tokyo Drift, even though it came out third in order, is chronologically taking place after Fast 6. So its no spoiler to say Han will return as you watch through the movies, because chronologically that part of his life hadn't happened yet.

I’ve been watching a few Fast and Furious movie reactions lately and there’s something I barely noticed about the first 3 movies: every single one has a race between an American muscle car and a JDM car. The Fast and Furious had Brian’s Supra vs Dom’s Charger. 2Fast 2Furious had Brian and Rome’s Evo and Spyder vs Fabio and Fonzie’s Camaro and Challenger. And now Tokyo Drift had Sean’s Mustang vs DK’s Fairlady.

Funnily enough, he almost didn't do that cameo until Universal made him a deal for him to have the rights to the character of Riddick and that's why there was a third Riddick film with Diesel's own production company, One Race in charge of production

It would be kind of cool to see another Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. Like have it continue on with more series focused on racing such. But then once in a while tie into the main series of Fast and Furious.

The reason for the new cast is because Vin Diesel didn’t want to be in anymore sequels. Paul Walker agreed to be in the 2nd but when Diesel also said no to the 3rd film, Walker said no as well, along with other previous cast. So they decided to try a reboot with this movie. Then Vin Diesel decided he wanted to come back but do something different so Fast 4 is also another reboot of the franchise and then Fast 5 created the formula for all the following movies and they tied Tokyo Drift into the series eventually.
