Wooo here we go! Had to re-edit this one 3 times to clear copyrights but we made it! if certain parts feel choppy it's a sad fate of the re-edits! But I hope you enjoy the reaction. I was not expecting to go back into the arena and I was definitely not expecting that ending, LOL I even thought Gale was dead and a mirage. 😂

Did you notice how Mags didn't get attacked by anyone in the arena? Some think it's because she wasn't a threat. I think it's because she is loved by all the other victors, and nobody wanted to hurt her. Remember how Haymitch said she was a sweet lady? I believe she served as either a mentor to a lot of the older victors, or simply became a mother figure not just to Finnick and Annie, but to a lot other victors

I bet you are right. Mags was such a sweet character. You could tell she volunteered to save Annie from having to go back. Especially since we found out she had intense PTSD (much like all the victors but sounds like some were able to mask it in public more). And then she saves Peeta 😭

she was the first victor after lucy gray's games! so she wont the 11th hunger games. At that point they only had mentiors once, during the 10th games, and they were students (aka Coryo Snow). I always think about the fact that she could have been the first victor to become a mentor. Fun fact! she was the first one to go on a victory tour

It was Peeta that painted Rue on the floor during the individual tests, not the gamemakers. He wanted to hold them responsible for killing her. He was the one who inspired Katniss to rebel during the tests again. Also, I recommend watching the deleted scenes for this movie (and the last if you want) they tend to take out scenes that adds more depth to the characters, which is really unfortunate.

"So how is everyone not super traumitized" they probably are- trauma doesnt always manifest in screaming and crying and hyperventalating. Most often, over 70% of people diagnosed with ptsd, have little outward reaction or delayed reactions. i have ptsd and its triggered by small daily sounds and occurances but when im in a high stress situation thats similar to what caused my trauma, my ptsd takes over in another form. The muscle memory and survival instinct blocks out all emotion conpletely and then overwhelmes me AFTER the situation is over. So its very likely that being in the training room/capitol/arena simply activated the survival instinct again and pushed all anxiety and fear down. Thats part of Fight, Flight or Freeze. Our brains quite literally cant handle the physical and emotional damage simultaneously so our brain breaks it down and files it away so we can deal with the immediate issue and this protective function is what creates what we call PTSD. I had to go to a trauma center where i sat thru 6 different therapies a day and rounded off with a 1½hr class about our brain and how it stores trauma etc etc etc and it was a rediculously long learning/healing process but education on the literal science of it helped IMMENSELY. Its onw thing to talk or work it out, its a whole other thing to fully understand your own brain chemistry and identify your own behavior so that the therapy progresses instead of looping back in every session

There’s something to the way that Haymitch spoke so sincerely about Maggs. We’re getting the Haymitch story next year, and I would not be surprised if she was his mentor during the 50th games because district 12 didn’t have an eligible past winner. suzanne collins (the book author) has also stated she isn’t going to write something unless she has something to say. so it’s very interesting to know that when thinking about this series & the parallels we see in todays society & all over the world. she originally did not plan to write the prequels & they aren’t coming bc of popular demand. so the author more so wants you to understand what she is trying to convey rather than enjoy what she created.

Mags, the old lady from 4, volunteered so another victor, Annie, would not have to go back. Annie is also Finnick’s love interest. Last sacrifice from her, after having trained both Finnick and Annie, deciding to give the two a chance, considering she had lived a long life and was married herself (based on the ring she has) Mags is also the winner of the 11th Games and was the first one to receive compensation for her victory and who did a victory tour as well. The first ten victors were just send back home to live their lives like nothing had happened, if they even survived the Games, once the early Games were much more primitive and brutal

I read the books back when they came out and loved them, and then I saw the movies in theaters and loved them, too. But they are pretty different from one another. In my memory, the books have a restricted first person point of view, so you're only seeing the world from Katniss's eyes. I don't think you get to see the game makers' command room, or President Snow with his granddaughter, or the riot scene from the first movie. This makes the books a lot more focused on what Katniss is thinking or feeling, while the movies are more focused on what Katniss is doing. Really, I think they adapted these books into movies perfectly, but they are different.
@LippsReacts
@LippsReacts Ай бұрын
love to hear this. It's nice that they provide a different experience all while providing an adaption the fans appreciate. That's hard to do but it also makes it so intriguing to pick up the books because you get a layered experience to the story

@@LippsReacts When you said for the first part that you didn't like the added layer, I thought first you meant the extra scenes that aren't in the books, until I understood that you don't know the book materials. The books are really quite a bit different - nonetheless pretty interesting and catching, while giving insight into Katniss' thoughts; the movies give more insight into the stuff happening behind the scenes that Katniss couldn't see.

One thing the movies messed up for me was leaving out the reality of Gale and Katniss's relationship. From the beginning the first book makes clear that he has romantic feelings for her but she doesn't want a relationship with anyone. It's suggested in this movie in the scene where Gale says to Katniss, "You love me, don't you?" and Katniss replies (as was written in the first book) that she wasn't able to think about that. Her biggest fear is having children to be sacrificed to the reaping for the Games. And after Prim's name was reaped, she's even more determined to not have a relationship with anyone.
@LippsReacts
@LippsReacts Ай бұрын
i've heard a few things about how the book portrays Katniss and relationships and it sounds much more intricate than the movies play it out to be. If you look for it, the clues are there in the movie. Katniss is often doing/saying things to keep allies and to play the game.... for lack of better words. But I look forward to getting to know her more in the books

26:49 Peeta was the one who painted Rue. He wanted to show them that he, and the other tributes, are more than just a piece in the Games 36:02 Finnick has the bangle because Haymitch gave it to him. He knew Katniss wouldn't trust a career tribute otherwise (in the books tributes from districts 1, 2 and 4 are career tributes - meaning they train for the games)

@@midnightbluestar13 If I recall right, he wasn't thinking about that at all. He said he wanted to hold the gamemakers accountable for Rue's death, plus we know he was trying to get them to hate him in order to take heat off Katniss. He specifically didn't want her fired up, he wanted her to act normal and not make herself a target for their vengeance. Then she happens to top his act with hers lol, but in the books she can't see the Rue painting because it's covered up, and she's motivated by reminding the gamemakers that they're Snow's tools and their lives are just as much Snow's as those of the tributes.

One detail I love in the books and films is how Plutarch designed the arena without Snow getting suspicious. He puts the water in the trees, knowing Katniss would know what to do if given a spial. The poison fog's antidote is in the puddles of water. In the books, he shows Katniss his pocket watch, which hints at the arenas theme. While Snow thought the watery, tropical environment would extunigish the girl on fire, Plutarch uses the arena to fuel the rebellion while helping Katniss survive. It's subtle but so brilliant.

@@LippsReacts In my opinion, Effie's a much better character in the movies version, and that's been one of only 3 characters that I thought that of we get to see more of her humanity and struggle to come to terms with how she used to view the Games ---"wonderful opportunity" and "All of this is for you, you've earned it"-----and how she now understands how (blankety blankety)-up the whole thing actually is. We don't get that in the books. On the other hand, in the books there's a lot of focus on the rest of Cinna's design team: Flavius (the guy with the orange topknot), Octavia ("It makes you sick so you can go on eating") and team-leader Vinnea, if I'm spelling that right, (the one with the greenish hair and I don't think she even had a line in the movies) and THEIR traumatized realizations to the grim reality of the inhumanity they'd once been enjoying.

Haymitch gave the bracelet to Finnick. Yes, the third book is split into two movies. I suggest watching them close together though because it's kind of annoying that they split it in half. I recommend the books, they are a quicker read than A Song of Ice and Fire (though I also like those books). We don't actually know what happens if there is no previous victor to mentor current tributes. As someone else mentioned in the comments, we are going to find out in March with Haymitch's book because we know there was no one to mentor him through his games (the 50th or Second Quell where twice as many kids were reaped). By the 75th year, each district was able to field one male and one female victor--though it does say some districts only had one female victor (ever), like Katniss and Johanna who must've known from the President's announcement that they would be going back.

It’s not explained in the films, but district 11 is the biggest food producer of Panem, being the agricultural district. This means the people there are very heavily policed by the Peacekeepers and brutal physical punishment is common, as is the death penalty. Rue mentioned that young boy working in the orchards was executed on the spot because he accidentally kept some farming equipment on his person instead of returning it. The Peacekeepers in 12, at least before the arrival of commander Thread, were more lax in their enforcement of the law. Katniss and Gale were breaking the law by hunting and should have been executed as well, but the Peacekeepers were among their highest paying customers due having been provided bad rations by the Capitol. The books also cut out one of the friendly Peacekeepers, Darius, who defended Gale during his whipping. He was later turned into an avox, a tongues slave who serve as the staff at tribute center and other sites in the Capitol (yes those quiet servants in the background have no tongues and are forced into their work)

I’m also a big reader (this series is one of the better book-to-movie translations, and we still lose a ton of detail) So I almost expect anything that was a book to be longer than your average film, because you can include so much more in books. Like Lord of the Rings is my all time fav, and just look at the duration difference between theatrical and extended editions. I get nervous if book adaptions are only two hours hahaha.

You never get off the train! No wonder Haymitch chose to live on a boat in the middle of a sea of alcohol. As for Jennifer, when you're done with the original 4 movies, you might be interested in watching her in "Passengers". A different role, but just as well performed. ❤

Love triangles are so tiresome. The author originally never meant for there to be a love triangle, but the editors insisted on it. Gale was originally meant to be Katniss' cousin of the non-kissing variety. The biggest original conflict for Katniss and relationships and family and children was she didn't want to have any children that would end up in the Games. The second was she couldn't distinguish her real feelings about/for Peeta and the play acting she was forced to do to survive. Thankfully, the author managed to twist the editor's meddling into a workable storyline, which is a testament to her skill.

yeah, from the sounds of the books being from Katniss POV i'm impressed they were able to take the story and create something so good from one POV. It felt palpable, had no idea about the original Gale plot tho

so something that isn’t really showed is that Katniss didnt saw Gale in a romantic way. She and Peeta have a lot of cute moments, she always implies that she watched him in school and stuff. And the kiss on the beach, and the one in the cave, she says that was the only ones that she really felt something, that made her want more. in the last books katniss thinks something that i feel it’s really important, if you watched already, read it what i’ll write rn. Katniss says that her and gale arent a thing, like gale has so much rage, and so does she. That’s why it wouldn’t work, on the other side she needs the dandelion in the spring, the promise that life can go on, that it can be good again, and only peeta can give her that. I think the books really don’t make a doubt since the start that she always wanted peeta, but she was suspicious of everything which makes a great read because she’s so teenage girl coded. I recommend if you really want to understand these characters and may i add that you realize that katniss is SUPER smart, and how much a cutie peeta is, he always made things clear to her! like saying “she’s perfect” and he’s nightmares are she being take away

Love these movies, and love your reactions! Can't wait for the rest of them :) Also, you should really read the books or listen to the audiobooks read by Tatiana Maslany. She absolutely kills it as a narrator. Stephen Fry reading HP is hard to beat, but she might be my favorite audiobook reader of all time

oooo noted! I definitely plan to pick up the books (in Feb when i'm back in the states, I brought 4 Game of Thrones books with me to London so my bags are already overweight) but perhaps I listen to them. I've not had anyone recommend a specific audiobook narrator so if i dive in via audio before Feb i'll make sure to look into Tatiana!

“Would you like to be in a real war” President Snow experienced the rebellion as a child, seeing a lot horrific things in war torn Capitol caused by the Districts, which somewhat contextualizes his authoritarian worldview and dislike for the districts. Doesn’t excuse the Games of course. District 13 was seemingly destroyed at the end of the first was 75 years ago
