It was clear to see from the gate that Michael was destined for stardom. We will never again witness a kid so advanced in singing, dancing, and entertaining all at once.

The Jackson 5 was my very first concert. I was like 8 or 9. They were really good. Michael was clearly the shining star of the group.

It is absolutely insane that from that time there, literally until the day he died he was performing.......and not at a reduced level at all. That's just crazy.

I was the same age as Michael and remember this appearance and the Ed Sullivan Show appearance. Forever a fan. In todays world where so many beat up on Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka, prodigies themselves, for protecting their mental and physical health I wonder how things may have been different for Michael if he could have done the same thing or someone done that for him.

@Mark Barnwell #F💚CTS Oh my goodness!!! What a thoughtful and thought provoking comment!💚💚 The stigma and criticism of Human Beings and anything related to Brain health (it is an organ like a kidney, lung etc. after all) are pervasive and archaic. This is the 21st century yet views and misunderstandings remain (barely changed) on par with the 19th century.

Not just Michael but all of the Jackson kids. And what about child stars like River Phoenix, Todd Bridges, Dana Plato, Gary Coleman, etc.

To have to dance & sing, while playing that ridiculous🎶I Want You Back🎶 bass line, makes Jermaine a genius.

incredible - he absorbed everything and put it out with so much style and how tight was the whole band?!

“I Want You Back” was sung and played live since it had already been out for several months, burned into the public’s brains, and it had already reached the #1 spot. It was their debut single and it reached #1. This was the first time “ABC” had ever been played on the air so they had to just play the record so it could make an impression on the audience and viewers so they’ll go out and buy the latest single. Every musical act did that back in those days. The 3rd song they performed, “Zip A Dee Do Dah”, was on their very first album several months before and it’s a cover that the character Uncle Remus sang in the vaulted live action/ animated 1946 Disney film “Song Of The South”; and “There Was A Time” is a James Brown song. Fun Fact: They were the first group to have their first 4 singles consecutively reach the #1 spot. They were “I Want You Back” in 1969, “ABC”, “The Love You Save”, and “I’ll Be There” in 1970.

Thank you for the info. Some of this I did not know. FYI- I'll Be There is their biggest hit sales wise. It also was their very last Pop #1 hit.

I surely remember seeing this episode of American Bandstand when it first Aired in early 1970. " I Want You Back" was their recent breakthrough hit, that everyone had heard on the radio during the past several months. And ABC was about to be released when this episode aired. It became another big hit within a few weeks.

MJ/Jackson 5 and Janet all make me feel so happy and lighthearted . MJ was also my first crush in the early 90s lol, along with another MJ, Michael Jordan. Michael is a true ham here but so adorable🥰

It wasn't from The Hollywood Palace as seen in The Miniseries, it was from American Bandstand and keep in mind that Dick Clark virtually had every Motown Artist on The Show. Also they were the last Group to Audition for Motown in 1968 before they moved out to Los Angeles. It was the first of many appearances. The Jackson Family hold the Distinction of having every Single Member on The Show. The Jackson Five, Michael Singing Solo, Janet, Rebbie LaToya, and Jermaine.

The. Black n white part is JB's "there was a time" James Brown & lil.mike is killing it !!!

Whoa, man. There was a whole lot of history in that black and white portion. "Shake your moneymaker" is a James Brown slogan and those dance moves were his. It was almost like a tribute to Brown. The other song was "Zip-a-dee Do-dah" from a Disney movie called Song of the South. It was sung by an enslaved man in the movie, but the film has been criticized for its sugar-coated depiction of slavery. Interesting that they in essence give the Wakanda Forever salute at the beginning 11:24 , but of course this was way before that. Just ironic, as it's a slave song.

Grew up loving the J5. I was born 3 months before Michael and felt represented by him and Prince, (also born in 1958). Got to be There, Maybe Tomorrow and Their earliest song Big Boy, are my suggestions for you to react to. Lots of great songs besides those though. Dive deep JJ. Peace.

LOVE IT.....I Want You Back and the medley of songs were live....ABC was lip synched.....Notice who the group admired the most at that time.....The Beatles who remain the biggest selling artists of all times and The Delfonics.....lol....i have suggested in the comment section quite a few times you should react to more Delfonics.....they were a fantastic philly group.....also Dick Clark mentioned Frankie Lymon.....Frankie Lymon was the MJ of the 50s.....he had hits with his group TheTeenagers and solo at a very young age like MJ......Frankie is one of the many who inspired MJ.....i do hope you also react to some Frankie Lymon.....superstar of his time and also tragic life.... there are many high quality performance video of him which is amazing since it is from the 50s......great J5 performance and great reaction

Believe it or not Michael actually lied about his age in this interview, he was actually 12 when he did this performance, They forced him too lie to keep the cute little kid image or something, kinda messed up to be honest,RIP Michael Jackson🙏
