Your debates keep making me 🤣. BTW, I think that was essentially Uhtred's mission, to light up the fire there. As far as Alfred, he's frustrating. That debt was dirty as Hell. I think that has to do with some Catholic frame of mind in that Alfred himself is not free, he owe something to God. And he has to abide by all the laws of the bible. So he wants Uhtred to be this way too, to always feel like he owe something inside of him.

As frustrating as Alfred is. Uhtred needs someone like him, he is a ball of chaotic energy that would've probably got himself killed if Alfred, Beocca, Leofrics, basically all his close friends weren't around. Every character is important, which is not an easy thing to pull off. If there are any readers here, check out the books, not very long and the battle scenes are amazing.

Alfred is such a complex character. I love him so much. Season 2 and 3 are the best in my opinion. But I really enjoyed 4 and 5 too :)
