Right before Dr. Chilton leaves the cell, he says "clean him up and get him ready to go" to the orderly. Which suggests he was released from his restraints and allowed to shower and or change clothes. So that would have been the moment Dr. Lector stole the pen Dr. Chilton left on his bed.😉

Realistically there's no easy answer for what do when you see something shady just as the women want to get home to their family so do we. Many of us have stopped another man for being creepy or aggressive. But many men and women just stand there recording and yelling for someone else to do it due to crowd psychology. But when you're alone its even more hard to know when. Wish it was easy to know what needed attention and when we could crowd jump someone lol. Men feel fear of dying on the way home unless you have the ego to feel safe in an area you know but if its unfamiliar those types feel far less confident anyway. Women unfortunately have a different layer of fear that's not just death although (in America) that's scarily statistically more likely with someone you know already. So awareness in all life is needed it takes effort to not be afraid of everything yet be aware sadly. PSA Just as a tip men and women please don't think men are invincible they are murdered far more than woman for a few reasons. Even if one might be there to help be ready to fight. We are often raised to help people but women saying they wont help for fear and we should feels dismissive to how risky that mindset becomes with how many men got shot or stabbed. If he goes down you still need to live. EVERYONE needs to carry something even if its a knife some people are actually IMMUNE to pepper spray don't only rely on it I tell my sister the same thing. AND FIGHT DIRTY. Eyes bones anything LIVE! USA has so many guns that you should simply get your own by this point but learn the discipline for when to use it. Too many people whip them out for simple arguments. Of course if just faking being someones friend will save them though we all should do so.

The point of Clarice getting chastised about not checking the corners, is due to it was in HER zone. It did however receive four nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress (two in each category). Pretty sure it's the only film in history to receive four acting nominations for women. There are only three movies in history to win the Big Five Oscars: The Silence of the Lambs (1991), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975), and It Happened One Night (1934). Everything Everywhere All at Once came pretty close, but it fell one short and missed out on Best Actor. It could also be that Clarice never once tried to mislead/lie to hannibal once. She was a straight shooter from the jump, talked with him idk if equal is the right word but she talked with him as a person, and him being a former therapist that probably just did wonders. with the test she asked him straight up although he called her out for asking to early tho. That one agent literally told her if you had an agenda he'd know. Yeah, regardless of what anyone might think of him, and his actions, he still earned his doctorate. It’s also a matter of respect, and courtesy, which Dr. Lecter values. Is he always aware of that susceptibility? Honestly, I’m not sure.

*Fun Facts:* Anthony Hopkins actually based all of Hannibal’s famous mannerisms on animals. His cold yet alluring demeanor, his disturbing stares, his ability to attack with surprising speed, all based on spiders and crocodiles. He also had input into his outfits, he said that Hannibal would want his jumpsuit almost tailored to him and that his hair should be greased back like a rat. During the famous scene of Clarice telling Hannibal about the lambs the script originally called for a flashback of Clarice’s story, but the director wisely decided to have the scene focus entirely one Anthony and Jodie’s performances, saying “I feel like would be kicked out of the Directors Guild if I cut the camera away from these two during this scene”.

The framing of scenes with Jodi Foster was done to show she was in over her head. You have remember she was still a trainee, Clairce is a POV character and severing as the Avatar for the audience. As always Micky is reading too deeply into something he doesn't fully understand, When clearing a room you are responsible for your own Zone which she fails to do because she's still in Training!!! It wasn't a way to show she was some how less than as a woman it was to emphasize SHE'S STILL LEARNING THE ROPES BECAUSE SHE'S A TRAINEE!!!! This is a basic storytelling tropes its not rocket science and you don't need to dig that deep. You establish she's bad at something then when you get to the showdown with Buffalo Bill the scene is more intense playing into what Pat pointed out she she wasn't clearing the rooms right and now you earn your victory when she defeats the villian and is rewarded at the end.

You all had a great and important discussion at the end of this. Men ABSOLUTELY don't spend even 1/100th of the time worried about situations where women are warned over and over again to be careful. I was never told that I should put my car keys in between my fingers when going through a parking garage because it's a way to cause more injury. A lot of people do look the other way because they don't want to "be involved" - but you don't have to fight off the attacker like a superhero....YELL, HONK HORNS, MAKE NOISE, ANYTHING. Those bastards are bullies and cowards who will more often than not run like a startled deer when there's a chance somebody, anybody, might be willing to confront them. 1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real. 2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released. 3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film. 4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice. 5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late😇 Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in "Rambo First Blood II". A great first time/share. 6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony. 7. In the book Crawford did have "a thing" for Clarice. 8. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice 9. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.

It was a good question about Dr Chilton’s pen: how did Dr Lector get it, while restrained in a straight jacket and restraint carrier? Since Chilton’s pen was later missing and the object from Hannibal’s mouth appears to be the pen clip, he got it nonetheless. Hannibal could only move his eyes and mouth when Chilton was in his cell. Hannibal had to outthink Chilton by distracting him as he later reached for his paperwork and pen. No doubt with a hint of knowledge of how to solve the case or who the serial killer was. Chilton clearly desired fame and it would have gotten his immediate attention. If he was paying more attention to Hannibal than the paperwork, the pen could have fallen to the floor to be collected by Hannibal after his restraints were removed. The small sound of the pen hitting the floor could be masked vocally or by a sudden jerking in his restraints. It could be in a seeming rage that he would never tell Chilton that detail, to make him angry and storm out without noticing the missing pen. A long shot that requires intelligence, good timing, and masterful manipulation, but very possible.

So I would suggest watching the tv show Hannibal after this or after the Hannibal movie. The book order was Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising. The first movie made of the series was an adaptation of Red Dragon called Mind Hunter in the 80s with Brian Cox as Lector. They released Silence with Anthony Hopkins which did very well and was followed by the Hannibal movie and then Red Dragon. Then they made Hannibal Rising which is not a good movie and I suggest skipping it as it was a prequel cash grab. NBC's Hannibal takes place before Red Dragon and is set in modern day. You only have to have seen Silence and know who Hannibal Lector is to watch it. It has 3 seasons and stars Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal, Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford, and Hugh Dancy as the investigator Will Graham. The show doesn't have Clarice Starling as a character because a different company/network own the rights to the character. I personally think the Hannibal show is a masterclass. The cinematography blows me away and I am so surprised such a show could have been on a network channel. It has many twists and some really fun characters.
