Remember, to be a hybrid you need to have the blood of Corvinus, and what did Viktor say about Markus? he is a decendant of Corvinus. At the end he is being awoken by Lycan blood, his eyes were changing like Michaels were. I remember being so hyped at that ending back in the day. 😄

In case anyone is interested, Shane Brolly, the actor who played Kraven, whose accent Kat found funny when he pronounced "food", is from Northern Ireland. And the tall, Black guy who plays the werewolf with the crazy deep voice is American actor, Kevin Grevioux.

Several practical werewolf heads were created depicting different stages of the transformation, they were then scanned and digitally morphed together to create a seamless transition - at this time they were most likely using the Elastic Reality software for the effect.

Victor vs Michael is an epic battle. Victor found himself face to face with the very thing he'd condemned Sonya for - a blending of the bloodlines. But Michael wasn't a helpless unborn. Michael was faster and more powerful than Victor, but he had zero battle experience. Michael was going on his Lycan instincts for fighting, and Victor had centuries of experience killing Lycans.

I loved Underworld when it came out. This movie really helped to rekindle my love of both vampires and werewolves. It is a pity but the sequels were never as good, in my opinion, but the second movie is at least worth a watch. As for a movie you should watch, I would put forth 'Legend' staring Tom Cruise and Tim Curry. Not exactly a horror movie, but a pure fantasy that features some of the scariest monsters and perhaps the greatest villain in cinematic history!

Watch her earlier roles as a young adult: her face was cute from a lot of angles, but not gorgeous from any, and very meh from some... and then she got a lot of work done and was STUNNING from every angle. Her beauty was an illusion created by surgeons, and she kept that beauty through regular routine maintenance surgeries ever since. Only recently has time begun to show that she had work done... but every second that you thought she was hot back in the day, even before Underworld, she had already had insane amounts of work done already.

Raze (played by Kevin Greivoux) WROTE Underworld. He was a genetic engineer and researcher at John Hopkins and a comic book geek. Eventually he decided to write his own comic and created Underworld. It's why the vampires and lycans are based on genetic mutation rather than magic. The guy is big enough to play professional sports, but he is a scientist.

Ultraviolet isn't known well enough. Hasn't aged that well, but only because most of the ideas have been done elsewhere since then by more successful films/shows, so they don't have the same impact as they did at the time it came out.

It's fun when a reactor's personality matches up perfectly with a movie, and this was perfect. I usually aren't a fan of your reactions but it just fit so well with this epic movie. It's a unique genre and this is a very unique interpretation of it and it's so well written and acted. Kate's Selene should be regarded as the most badass female lead of all-time, but the genre pushes it to obscurity. A GREAT franchise that is WAY underreacted to.

The 2nd film, Underworld: Evolution is a direct sequel to the original here. And opens up with a flashback scene to the Middle Ages where Viktor saves Selene as told by Selene here in this movie. The 3rd film, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, is a prequel to the whole franchise and goes back and tells the story of how Lucian, his vampire gf, Sonja, came to be, and who was killed by Viktor back in the Middle Ages. The whole movie takes place back then. But it's essentially a full filmed version of those flashbacks you saw here in this movie. And fun fact: the actress who played Sonja in those flashbacks was replaced by the actress who played her in Rise of the Lycans, Rhona Mitra, on the 4K Blu-ray set...at least. It wasn't that way on the standard blu-rays. I don't know how they did it, but they did. I don't know if they could have AI-ed the replacement or what, but it's pretty cool that they retconned that scene in the original to match with the 3rd film.

My favorite of the whole series is "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" (2009), which is the third movie. It shows the whole backstory of Lucian and Sonja, and the root of the Lycan / Vampire war. The second film, "Underworld: Evolution" (2006), is pretty good too, but not as good as the third film.

Hi Kat! I love this movie! I love that Bill Nighy is a monster that betrayed Selene, I love Sophia Myles being a cat I love the lore that it sets out. Great movie that has no business being this good!

I feel like this movie would have made so much more sense if 1) Michael had been a child instead of Selene's love interest and 2) Selene had been a reincarnation of Lucian's vampire wife (and when she drank the elder blood she got back the memories of her former life). Everyone keeps talking about how much Selene looks like her. Selene and Lucian spend the whole movie essentially embroiled in a custody battle over Michael, yet weirdly never get to have an actual conversation in the movie. (I don't know if the reason they never had a scene together had anything to do with the fact that before this movie was filmed Kate Beckinsale was married to Michael Sheen who plays Lucian and afterwards they got divorced and she married the director).

I found this very creepy... at first i thought it was the content. Then i thought it was the doll in the corner, bathed in red light. Again, wrong... Ducks do not sit on tables, its unnatural Enjoyed the reaction

The howling (1981) is another good werewolf movie. The fx were done by Rick bakers assistant, Rob Bottin. Oh and Rick baker did the fx for American werewolf in London

I loved your reaction to this, Kat. All of them are good, the best being the first three, the weakest being the fourth (in my opinion) which is okay and still fun, the fifth is better than the fourth, my personal favourite is the third as it deals with the back story and all the history..

Agree. 3>1>2>5>4 Which is a good order because it means after watching the second you then get to look forward to the best one, then after watching the fourth and wondering what they were trying to do there you know the fifth movie gets back on track somewhat.

Whole reason for the lycans wanting to create the hybrid, was Lucian’s pettiness to get back at Victor for not wanting the mixed children that would have come from Lucian and his daughter Sonya. He opposed the union of species so bad he killed his own daughter so Lucian was determined to see the hybrids become a thing for spite. When he’s dying but sees Michael (Lycan) and Seline (vampire) kissing he’s happy cuz he knows jobs done

One of the absolute crimes against movies involved Selene's guns. They were real fully functional full auto Beretta's and we're sold at auction. Then were welded shut and demilled so they could be made into a wall display for a guy in the UK.
