Just went to the biggest women's game, 58,000 people watched the last game of the women's 6 nations in the UK. Over a 1,000,000 people watched on TV in the UK alone I believe. It's rapidly growing and being a men's player it is awesome to see the ladies catching up to us and playing some incredible rugby and being recognised for it.

I remember waaaay back in the early 80's, the wives and gfs of the pub Rugby team my brothers played for used to do charity rugby matches (with two of the men's team wearing wigs and makeup and playing for them) and they played with trainers, but they had great fun and the men all commented at that time how the women were good with just a bit of training and how it was sad not so many women played it. Look at it now! Then think about footy, the largest crowd for a match in England is for a women's game after the 1st world war, as I recall - the FA in the 20's decreed that women's teams couldn't play on the same pitches as men, and that wiped it out, it was more popular than the men's game and they couldn't have that, could they? So the revival of the game now is great karma for those women who played for fun in late 19th/early20th century.. The Charlton brothers mother probably watched it as child and that's why she used to play footy with them all the time as kids.

The woman at the beginning is Ruby Tui, an absolute legend and, from what l've seen of her interactions with her fans, an all round lovely person. The thing she's doing with her eyes is called a pukana and is a ritualised gesture that is part of a haka. Trust us, fear has NOTHING to do with it! Most teams in Aotearoa/ New Zealand begin games with a haka. I'll add a link to Ruby Tui performing a haka at the front of the Black Ferns. Just a note: Many of our national teams have either Black (eg Black Ferns, our national women's rugby team) or White (eg the All Whites, our soccer team) in the names. For us, it's perfectly normal and has nothing to do with the colour of the people in the teams but, are variations on the name of our first globally famous team, the All Blacks. That is a very rare thing, usually accidental, but that was clearly deliberate and I would assume she would have got a red card for that (sent off for the rest of the game). I played rugby and I have watched for more than 50 years and I was absolutely shocked the first time I saw that particular incident; I had never seen it happen before.

There is another from of rugby called "Rugby 7s" which is 7 a side (rather then the normal 15 aside) they play on the same size pitch and play 7 mins each way non stop. There is a international leauge that's played each season which the USA is involved in. I'd definitely recommend finding a 7s highlight real 👍

You need to realise that these are just the initial hits. After the hit, the fight goes on to retain or win the ball. What you're showing is like just the shoot moves in MMA without the ground fight. Hard hits alright but rugby doesn't stop. The game keeps going. No defence/offensive team changes. The kicker(s) are on the field in the fight the whole time... Love this sport!

I must add the relationship between rugby players and refs is very different. The most famous ref has his own Utube clips. Welshman NIGEL OWENS BEING NIGEL OWENS. Some quotes when he is telling a player off for arguing back "this is not soccer" another "I'm straighter than that one" for a crooked line up. Or the iconic " if you don't like getting down in the scrum I suggest changing position".

1:30 No, they can't but some play dirty. I've seen a match (local game, not on YT) where one of the really fast players got yanked onto her back by her shoulders, from behind. She slammed the ground with her head and had a severe concussion. Just to take her out of the game as she was scoring way too many tries. Nobody could get close to her but she wasn't built like a brick shithouse, so one good hit would take her out. As that didn't happen, they other team resorted to dirty tactics. The offending player got sent off and penalties were given, but the other girl was already out with a concussion.

Not only are our women's rugby players harder....this is not even the most violent ball game in England. That would be The Atherstone Ball game. It is comparatively recently that they added the no strangling or eye gouging to the traditional rule NO KILLING. More like the Purge than a ball game it is the grandaddy of all ball games not played on a horse. Over 800 years old. It starts of sedate with women and children too, they withdraw and the blood flows with punching kicking pummelling, climbing buildings to launch off so you can reach the ball holder to wrestle the ball from him any way you can. It has in the past resulted in many injuries but the police just stand by as the modern rules of polite society are ignored for once a year at Easter. Only possible in a country with free ambulance and health care.

Brilliant day of rugby here in Jersey today, not new jersey... The Jersey! SIAM Cup Jersey 4/4 against Guernsey, Jersey Women RFC smashed Guernsey. Check out Jersey vs Russia, small island 9 by 5 miles beating Russia in their warm up game for the world cup, Jersey Reds are a professional team here, and should be playing Premiership rugby, but because of our capacity at the grounds, we are banned from playing in the premiership, even though we just won the Championship which is England's 2nd tier. NFL is no way more popular than rugby, rugby is played all over the world, NFL is played in the USA and 2 games in the UK each year, can't be dealing with 4 quarters and a defensive line and offence, stop start nonsense with pads, 40 minutes each way let them smash bash and play.

No excuse for not knowing. USA are a major force in world women's rugby union, won the World Cup in 1991 and were dominant for most of that decade. Not quite so good now, but still ranked 7th in the world. In men's rugby union, on the other hand, the USA is somewhere way down the list, and is not a significant force. Where you live, it's predominantly A WOMEN'S GAME. In rugby league, the USA is much less of a force, in both the men's and women's game. They tend to look like union players who haven't really converted properly to league.
