4:53 this footage has a very cool idea Minnie is Medusa and is on a circle that looks like a shield. Soyeon is Athena. according to legend, Medusa was Athena's slave. Medusa was raped by Poseidon precisely in Athena's temple. Medusa's life was miserable. Also, Athena cursed Medusa to become a snake and banished her from the temple. Poseidon eventually decapitated her and placed her head on a shield(Minnie is on a circle that looks like a shield, hence why she is Medusa. There was also a moment in the clip where Soyeon was wearing Athena's helmet). In the clip they show Soyeon and Minnie hugging the statue of Poseidon and it explodes. Most likely the girls wanted to show female friendship/solidarity and that no man is worth such humiliation and disagreements as Athena and Medusa were having (actually, later, after this theory, it turned out that they were playing Medusa's snakes). Oh, this MV can be taken apart piece by piece Rsrsrs, they have a reaction to this music video on their channel, as well as a Special Performance, that's something! Thanks so much for the response! Can we get more of the (G)I-DLE? For example, Super Lady - Special Performance, idle reactions to Super Lady, Wife, I want that or anything older to see Soojin like Senorita, HANN(Alone), HWAA or Lion?

Omg! I'm waiting for you to react to this! 😊 btw, Soyeon is actually Athena. Her shot with Minnie with the Poseidon statue (or Zeus I'm not sure) and then on the next shot the statue exploded I believe (and I could be wrong) is there take on the version of the story where Athena did not cursed Medusa but rather blessed her with a head of snakes that could turn men to stone so that Medusa can protect herself because she was r*ped

Thank you for your reaction! Imo Soyeon and Shuhua are different characters than some people say. For Shuhua, I have seen people suggest Marie Antoinette or Joan of Arc, but I don't think this would fit with the other characters who are all complex characters with good/bad sides to them. I feel that Shuhua is the queen of hearts from Alice - the Tim Burton version. This is partly because her first scene starts on a queen card and partly because someone said that one of the crew confirmed it, though I have not seen that myself. I was hoping they'd say something in the bts but sadly they didn't😢 I'm pretty sure that Soyeon is Athena, the goddess of war. You see the statue everywhere, including the one she games in, and the helmet Soyeon wears at the end is very similar in shape to Athena's. I also think they are making a statement in the MV because Poseidon uses (very polite way of describing it) Medusa to get at Athena, for which Athena curses Medusa with the turning to stone thing. In the MV you see them both with a statue of Poseidon, which they then destroy. I would agree that Miyeon is probably Cleopatra, so would be the one real person, but in the bts captions she is referred to as "Miyeonphrodite," so she may be representing Aphrodite. I haven't seen is anyone has confirmed their characters on lives. If Shuhua is the queen of hearts and Miyeon is Aphrodite then they would all be fictional/ mythological characters.

Watching this music video again always make me look back to how far they’ve come. Their music video used to very low budget and every year they grew bigger and bigger. And now this music video is literally a flex. I’m proud of them

I'm so glad you loved this MV. It's one of my favorites from them, because everyone just stands out so much. But as for Soyeon and Shuhua's characters, Soyeon is Athena. Scorpions have been connected to her by one of the many (though less told) stories regarding the scorpios constellation, as well as her wearing Athena's helmet, and, well, standing on the hand of a statue of Athena at one point. The costume designer said Shuhua was based off of the Queen of Hearts, which would explain the card in the cake, as well as the fact that she's at a tea party.

I'd like to correct that Soyeon is not Persephone, she's Athena - she appears on top of Athena's statue, she uses Athena's helmet, she has scenes with Minnie aka Medusa and they're surrounding a statue of Poseidon which they smash which, if you know Greek Mythology, you know the story between those three (although there are several variants to it). Also, the fandom is split 50/50 on whether Shuhua is Marie Antoinette or the Queen of Hearts (which is my personal interpretation, with the tea party, the upside down hearts and the cards).

The lyrics have easter eggs of (G)I-dle shouting out to other girl groups of female artists. Baddie - Ive, Savage - Aespa, Fearless - Le Sserafim, and Minnie's Hana Dul Set is a callback to CL of 2NE1's track Hello Bitches. The last one could seem like a reach (as Hana Deul Set is a pretty common phrase in k-pop lyrics), but the fact that visually the MV is basically a love letter to 2NE1, and the song was choreographed by Kristen who is featured in the Hello Bitches mv, so I'm pretty confident in calling it. Just queens recognizing queens!

Yeah, don’t stress girl, take ur time with the recordings and uploads, it does sound like a pretty stressful thing so dwww Yay I’m excited for the guide reaction, I’m always so anxious about what guide people react to bc all due respect to the creators, some of them are kinda incomplete, outdated or don’t include soojin, but there are a lot of really good ones out there so I’m sure it will be fine. Def looking forward to the Allergy & Queencard reactions, it might be my fav Gidle concept ever tbh🤭

So much fun. Also, happy birthday. Oh, and comment on video: Just as in so many videos, Soyeon (it's always Soyeon) leaves room for speculation and interpretation. Some watchers aren't comfortable with Shuhua being Marie Antoinette, and suggest other queens, including the queen from Alice In Wonderland. (Almost has to be a queen, given flash of a queencard (!) stuck in a cake.) I dunno. I'm a bit more intrigued about the references to Greek mythology. Athena is definitely the frontrunner as Soyeon's god identity. (Note: Soyeon says 'I am a god,' not 'I am a goddess,' echoing use of the word 'lion,' not 'lioness' in the MV for, uh, 'Lion.') I have seen some advocate for Persephone, but there doesn't seem to be any connection of Persephone with Medusa. And what about that scorpion? Because of the scorpion, I'm pushing Artemis as a dark horse candidate. Artemis sent a scorpion to kill Orion after Orion threatened to hunt all animals to extinction. Also, Artemis stood up for women in a male-dominated world. The Artemis-Medusa connection, on the other hand, is tenuous, but there is at least one Artemis temple that is famously protected by the figure of Medusa.... Anyway, we shouldn't assume that Soyeon isn't invoking more than one identity; she does do conceptual mashups that way. Finally, did you notice that the people surrounding Shuhua/Marie appear to be cross-dressing men, and that the men with Yuqi/Cruella are signaling gay? I've seen that noted in other comments, but I haven't seen anyone point out that the superficially female figures posing around Miyeon/Cleopatra as she sits on her throne may also be men. How about that? lol cheers
