Truly this has to be the stupidest system for moving cams and oil pumps. Good quality chain system and regular oil changes and you may never have to change it - ever. Even a normal dry cam belt even if you have to do it every 100,000 Km, is usually easier to access than that. Having said that you guys did a good job of it!

I had a 3.2 Ranger. It was absolute crap and cost me a bloody fortune for multiple faults. The last straw was when the adblue system malfunctioned and nobody could fix it! Even a main Ford dealer!! For the sake of a little bit more noise from the engine I’ll take the timing chain idea over this any time. The day I heard about the wet belt idea years ago I never believed they would work. I’ll stick to Mitsubishi diesel thanks.
@michaelw627723 сағат бұрын
The problem with timing chains is that for OHC engines it seems like only Honda and Toyota have them figured out. Every other manufacturer seems to need them changed about as often as a belt. Dry belts were fine, and quiet, so I have no idea why wet belts or chains are used as often as they are.

what an absolute shit design by ford that you have to remove all that for service items like a timing belt. Who ever designs these vehicles are the worst of the worst in the motor trade. Customers moan at the hourly rate , or think its a couple hours work, after seeing a youtube video. They have zero clue. The motor trade wages are shocking bad in this country , and this proves why techs should be earning min basic rate of 40k plus.

Using wet belts is just about the dumbest design option imaginable. It combines almost all of disadvantages of dry belts, along with those of chain drives and adds some of its own. The wet belts, if anything, have a shorter life than conventional "dry" belts and replacing them has all the labour costs of replacing a failed chain. Personally, and I know it's unfashionable, I approve of conventional belts. Yes, you have to schedule in replacements, but you can budget for it and it's a lot simpler process than having to pull off and reseal timing covers, sumps and so on. If timing chains were good for the life of an engine, they I'd go with that, but too many are prone to failures, often without warning (unless you are skilled) and is expensive to fix, at best. At worst, it involved catastrophic damage. But in any event, I would never have a "wet belt" engine.
