That's a very nice sized trout there buddy and I really enjoyed the video. I prefer sea fishing but I have tried fishing for trout locally many years ago and I totally blanked. It's very handy that you have a river so close to home if you fancy a quick fix fishing wise. You mentioned pike and I know a few people that fish for them with lures so would love to see you give it a try some time. I will say that even when you don't catch you are very entertaining and having the dogs with you was an added bonus. I hope Jack is doing well and all the best to your Mrs too, looking forward to your next session whether it be sea or freshwater, take care buddy.

Just joined you as a member. Derbyshire born, living in NYC and I was totally impressed that you caught anything one your first freshwater outing, let alone that great trout! I fish fresh, Hudson river (brackish) and beach (Rockaways, Queens NYC), so it's interesting to see what's happening in the UK. Never fished in England, only learned in the US. Your dogs are delightful. Hi Eric! And don't worry. I'm a pretty good freshwater angler, but have caught many trees and fish sticks!!

Was born in Tibshelf Derbys, (you'll probably have to look that up!), moved around the UK with family then work, but never fished. Fast forward and my husband bought me my first rod 10 years ago , taught me to tie a knot and here I am ... not catching because the water is still a bit too cold for what I do! Keep up the good work. Todays video looked brutal. And if you end up on the east coast of the US give me a shout. Eat well. Look after yourself and loved ones!

Love it 😂,I normally blank when fishing lures on my local rivers and canals,that trout would make my day,I’ve had some success with catapult casting under trees,i don’t go any bigger than 7ft rods anymore,some days it’s constant snags and tangles😖.

@@theawfulangler I’ve got a couple I use a fox rage drop shot rod 7ft which is great for small lures and an Advanta jig and spin 7ft 15-40g both cheap rods but seem decent enough,it’s nice to watch videos close to me with similar experiences to what I get rather than some of the channels where the fish seem to throw themselves on the hooks every cast😂keep the videos coming 👏👏

Great result with that Brown Trout. That was no small river trout. Thought the Derwent flowed faster than that, but reckon if its that slow along that stretch that there might be some Carp holed up in there too. I'm certainly no spinning expert, but I did watch a Henry Gilbey Bass fishing video the other day where he used a soft plastic lure with a single hook that the hook point "hides" within the body so that you can cast within weed and not get snagged up, but that when a fishes hits it the hook comes through and catches. Stunning stretch of water too.

Cheers Jamie, I was chuffed with it, disappointed i didn't have scales or a measure like 😕 Yeah I have weedless setups for salt water. The shanks on the hooks are different to the ones I had this day. I'll keep my eye open for something similar but smaller that I can use on the riverbank

Have you ever fished kedleston? Fished a few times many years ago before it was a syndicate water. Got my pb fish, 22lb pike. Such a lovely relaxing place, even the long walk is a good head cleaner.

I was on the river yesterday, only one chub, but there is no way out two spaniels could come with me as they would be in the water so much that the fish would be in a different county

I worked in Derby for a while ,contracting, I walked for miles ,(near Derby) along the Derwent. Shallower ,narrower streches , full of fish It is a beautiful place, ..... get the Ginger fisherman down , in the summer for a few joint uploads. Another great upload from the Awful Angler. I wonder if you could "knock up" a fluffy animal lure thingy (no hooks), in order to entertain the dogs, fer a bit.

Control the distance of your cast by looping the braid over the line keeper on your spool, avoiding the trees on the opposite bank.

As I understand it, trout have a slime coat on their skin that is very important, and easy to disrupt. You’d want to wet your hands prior to handling them, if you intend to release. Unless you’re releasing them into the pan, of course. I’ve been enjoying your channel over here in the states, it’s nice to see the differences between fishing styles, particularly bait fishing in the ocean. Cheers

I think it would have been perfect pan size, but again wasn't sure on the seasons for trout in this stretch. well done matey on the trout... i used to fish on the Don for the trout, i found that a nice big fat earthworm did the trick with them, had some nice perch out of the Don aswell. i'm not all that clued up on lure fishing (fresh or sea) but maybe get intouch with the fella from Slippy Limpets KZbin channel. he maybe will point you in the right direction.

Laughing my head off with you and the boys, we have two sprockers and I'm like you get off,get down,put it down, come out. I usually sea fish the holdeness coast but I've found if I want spot on casting is to get your distance right we used to put a big elastic band around the spool which takes out the worry of going in the shrubbery opposite you.
