First Timers at Pebble Beach hole #7

Sign me up. About 20 years ago, winds #35mph in my face. Never played here before. I pulled out a nine iron. The caddy (required at that time) laughed and put a 3-Wood in my hands and said: "Hit it as hard as you can and Pray it goes straight.". I waited for a soft wind. One came along and I closed my eyes, prayed as instructed, then hit it as hard as I could. The high wind caught it and dropped it on the green @ 140 years downhill. Unforgettable Pebble Beach. Can't play any more. Sure miss the Game.

I played in similar winds, didn't have a caddy and chose 8 iron. The ball ended up behind me, no lie.

I've probably video'd over a hundred 4-somes tee off on the 7th Hole there at Pebble for corporate groups and private 4-somes. Been with Johnny Miller for 2 or 3 outings and watched him pepper that flag repeatedly - but I don't think I ever captured any individual getting as close as that one guy did. Kudos to his buddy for capturing that moment.

Hey thanks Stephen. I have often taken video of good visibility par 3 tee shots trying to capture an ace. Funny thing is i never knew this guy. We just got paired up with a single. And I never got John’s contact info. Hopefully this spring’s viral video surge on this video will reach him and he’ll get to watch this video on KZbin as it continues to gain popularity now that it’s on the right side of the KZbin’s algorithm.

Wonderful! These gents will remember this forever! I certainly remember my first time at Pebble Beach! I was nervous and was just in awe of the scenery and the location! For most golfers including myself, Pebble Beach is considered hallowed ground! I wish to play St. Andrews someday! ☮️🖖🏽

I was stationed at Ft Ord in 1971. Pebble had a special offer for soldiers to play for a $25 green fee. I forget the details, but I couldn’t afford it. I wasn’t much of a golfer then, but now when I watch the “Crosby Clambake”, I cringe at the opportunity missed.

You dont need to know a member like Augusta to play pebble beach, a 4 some can get a tee time.

I played the 3 times. First was on 1989 in the spring. I'd only been playing for 3 years and was an 18 handicapper. I aced it from front tee and dutifully l passed out. I woke up to my friends telling me I still had to buy drinks. 2 years later I aced Poppy Hills #11. In 94 I aced my home course #5. By 99 I was a scratch player and in May injured my back at work. I lost my game and my dream of playing the seniors just 9 months before turning 50. But my three times playing Pebble still stand out. Love that course. Paid $150 first time and won two rounds I'm 94 and on as club champ. It cost $300 a round by then and you had to stay at one of the Pebble or Spanish Bay properties at another $300/night. It's closer to a thousand to play and stay now and that's the only way you can get on the course.

It's a scary hole when the wind is blowing like it was for me. Happy to walk off with a par. It is the best course I have played every hole is fantastic and worth every dollar.

I got a chance to play there in the mid 70's. My home course in high school had a hole over a quarry, with swirling winds, so this hole wasn't as bad as expected, but the other holes along the water still give me nightmares

When we played there I asked the caddy what to hit, he said 7 iron. The wind was so strong I came up short. When the wind howls there it's unbelievably hard to judge distances. Made a 4.

Same I hit a 6 iron to the edge and hit a chip to 6 feet and holed out. It's not long by any means but my god its scary when wind blows
