Well done. It's nice to see a line put back in service rather than being abandoned for good and ripped out.
@jamesshanks26147 жыл бұрын
When a line is taken out of service all the grade crossings with automatic protection are shut down commercial power is shut off so the railroad doesn't have to send a signal maintainer out to shut off/raise the gates which is an unnecessary expense when the line is embargoed. Short lines generally have only a few employees and at this point in the reopening of this line they simply hadn't gotten around to turning all the grade crossings back in service. As I've seen by newer videos of this mill they fixed the track to avoid wide gauge and reactivated the grade crossings. All in a day's work when reopening a embargoed rail line. They are doing it right by stopping and flagging each crossing and liberally using the horn as after two years of no trains they have to let people know the trains are back! Congratulations to the Cincinnati East Terminal Railroad at getting another new/old customer back.

We have a line in southwestern Ontario that was dormant for a few years and had the power to some of the crossings off and when the line started up again under a new name, they were turned back on. The one crossing I saw, they removed the gates, but once running again, they didn't reinstall them.

All I know is it was built by GMD somewhere in the early 50s. National Railway Equipment from Illinois leased it to the grain elevator for years until they finally bought it. I have pictures of it in a different color from a few years back. I made videos of Norfolk southern removing it also that I might put together into one video. Someone stole the horn off of it.

Wonder what rules this RR uses. Many rules do not require whistling for a road crossing if it is protected by a flagger. Most rules require crossings with out of service protection to be flagged by a flagger on the ground. CSX rules and others do not permit boarding moving equipment.

@@JawTooth I'll keep my fingers crossed more of it comes back. We were in danger of losing the former Lackawanna in PA between Slateford nad Scranton for many years after Contrial but Delaware Lackawanna breathed new life into it but it did get single tracked with no signalling. There was a beautiful Union Switch & Signal system in place, but that's gone. Unfortunately we lost the NJ cut-off. Now a portion of that is supposed to come back but it's taking a long time.

@kyleb062 жыл бұрын
They don't in the US either. From what I saw in other comments, they most likely honked so that people in the towns could get back into the groove of trains coming through.

For a line that's been out of service a while they're moving right along. The tracks are still in good shape. At 5:03 you can see how shiny the rails became once the locomotives went under the bridge. Do the grade crossing gates work now?
