First two weeks of medical school // Orientation, Class, White coat ceremony // UM Med School Vlog

Back with a chatty vlog! At first, it was going to be just orientation.. but then it turned into random bits from the Intro to the Medical Professions class (the first two weeks). Hopefully this video will be useful to future Canes because I was so confused what the first two weeks were going to look like (since it’s kind of like pre-class). I also stuck in our White Coat and Pinning ceremony for the memories.
Background info about me: MS1 at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine! Marvin doesn't like to in videos but here he is.

I'm going to orientation next week but for their mph/mpa which is honestly surreal lol Would you recommend dressing up to go to both orientations? Coming from the midwest, I'm having a hard time adjusting to business casual/profesisonal in hotter climates. Also I'd appreciate any advice you may have for adjusting to umiami as an out of state student and adjusting to grad school in general. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Miami was a lot more casual than the northeast I was used to. Some guys wore sneakers and polos. Miami is definitely a unique city that I feel like more people hate or love. The first couple of days kind of felt like speed dating if you didn’t know anyone. In short, just make the most of it before the real work begins!

Yes, they also have a 7(?) year program where you can apply to the med school early if you’re a UM undergrad student

I’m worried for you, and suspect you will be surprised most days on what you’re required to do and when. Perhaps you should have waited 1-3 years before going to medical school in order to mature some more and develop resiliency. Good luck.

I'm just not quite sure what you saw in here that made you worried. I think tackling the first week of medical school while unexpectedly having to stay in an AirBnb and move into their apartment that week is actually a fair demonstration of resiliency in itself. All she really said was that she didn't expect to have an evaluated SP encounter her first week of school, which IS surprising as both my wife's program and my program (separate programs) dove more heavily into the sciences that first week, as she was expecting. But never was there a mention of "Oh no, I can't do this" - from what we can tell in the video, everything went fine. Thanks for sharing your unsolicited, baseless opinion, but I thought you did great Julia and wish you and Marvin the best with the rest of the term!
