Hey it’s been badged incorrectly. It’s an S320 with the straight 6 M104 engine. The S500 would have an M119 V8.

And don't underestimate the 3.2l M104. Very good and smooth, reliable motor. Replace the engine wiring harness and possibly the throttle body if it hasn't already happened.

@@7477238 isn't that a known issue with this generation of Mercedes Benz cars? They used some kind of biodegradable material to coat the wiring in the wiring harnesses, or something to that extent.

@@markb3756 I believe so, I work part time at a second hand car shop in the holydays and most Mercedes from that time period all have electrical problems. and considering it has been sitting outside for so long the wires in there are probably junk

The S500 is on the W140 platform which was made from 1991-1998, many models we're made including one that had a V12 engine in it, what you guys have there is a short wheelbase model, there was a long wheelbase, a 2-door coupe and a 4-door pullman model, the long wheelbase model was also infamous because Princess Diana unfortunately had her fatal accident but that one was a S280 model. I am excited to see the future for this model, I am sure it'll get a lot of love and attention! Also, whatever that skeleton was, was probably some unfortunate animal that got killed by a fox and dragged under the bumper! And I agree on the wheels part, those aftermarket wheels just look so wrong on a W140, the factory wheels would change the car's appearance immediately.

In my opinion, the W140 model was the best car Mercedes has ever built. Very comfortable, lots of space and very pleasant to drive. I had a 1997 S 420 (V8, 280hp) for a few years. A really great car.

Great find! Remove the tail lights and I’ll bet you find rust behind them. Also it’s not an s500 It’s an S320. The S500 started at 98 grand new and was also a 5.0 liter V8 and was only offered in the long wheel base version for the US. You can tell by looking at the rear door windows. They aren’t as long and are more square. But nonetheless it’s a pretty car!

And just a tip. Take off the the 500 emblem and put the 320 on. Cause everyone will just think you’re trying to be a poser. Don’t to forget to measure so you place the new emblem in the proper spot on the trunk lid. Or just leave the emblem off and only keep the trunk star.

This is SWB S320. Using a hose to clean the engine definitely allowed water to flood the wires and spark plugs as th inline 6 has plugs pointing straight up. You have to remove the metal cover and get out as much of the water as you can and dry it out or it'll never run for you.

I know you have your own line of productional, but I will always use and always have used the scrubby bubbles that you spray on bathroom surfaces. That foams up, it cuts the detailing indoor jams completely out with no effort spread on slightly scrub wipe it off and it looks better than. Brand new!

Red/green lamp is for the immobilizer change to a new key by the dealer before you do anything more , if you used the old key you can be locked out with the immobilizer

The green and red lights are your indicator lights for the locking system. They used that before the turn indicators. Red and green flashing alternately is telling you your key battery is nearing its end. If you try starting it and they start blinking it‘s telling you the immobilizer is active.

i have an 1992 MB W140 300SE, and the MAF is faulty, in order for you to get this running (albeit with an error code via MB Star Diag) is to keep the MAF in place but disconnect the wires to it…. it will run like a champ… a little rich but it will run

when the faulty maf was connected, the car would run rough and hesitate during acceleration until it was warmed up; very hard to find new maf for the w140, second hand units always had the same hesitation issues.. cleaning the maf does not work… so disconnecting it will force the computer to use default intake values and get the car running… no hesitation, all power

Yes, as others have pointed out, this is an S320, so please show some dignity and correctly rebadge. I can tell it's a 96' just by looking at the rear view mirror. The lights you show in the video are part of the infrared remote and alarm system. The little round IR sensor on the bottom of the mirror was for one year only. In 97' they went back to sensors in the door handles. As a facelifted 96' (you can tell by the horizontal line in the side view mirror covers) this car does not have the wiring harness issue. I have a 96' S500 & on the M119 engine, the for sure way to know you have the later harness is to check for individual coil packs. If you have the coil packs, you have the later harness. W140's are awesome cars.

In these cars you can’t just wash the engine with water pressure! There are special covers with which you need to cover the top cover of the motor before washing. If this is not done, water can easily flood the spark plugs and ignition coils. in this case, you need to unscrew the bolts, remove the cover, remove the coils, remove the water, and then try to start the car.

It's a 95 or 96 b/c it has the '95 mid-cycle refresh (lower cladding has the beltline in it and the lower rear trunk corners round into the light area, (pre-refresh it had hard angular corners where the trunk meets the lights), wiring harness issue was mid-'92 through '95, so if it's a '96 it's good. '97/'98 brought the last updates of clear rear turn signals (w/amber bulbs) instead of amber lenses, like this '95 or '96....the point of this is if has the wiring harness issue or not, and by the exterior being the '95 mid-cycle refresh, it could if a '95, or not if a '96, as '95/'96 looked the same...'97 brought more exterior changes for '97/'98, to deep sporty looking 6-hole wheels instead of the standard Benz "manhole covers" as well as clear rear turn signal lenses.

Mislabelling the car's nomenclature is very common practice amongst BMW and Mercedes-Benz owners. This car is actually a S 320, not S 500: the straight six engine is a dead giveaway. The S 500 is sold in the United States and Canada as a long-wheelbase version only. Only S 320 and S 300 Turbodiesel were offered in short wheelbase in the US and Canada. In Germany, it's norm for the BMW and Mercedes-Benz owners to delete the nomenclature if they don't want to be conspicuous about their wealth (i.e. ordering bigger engines such as V8 and V12) or if they are too embarrassed to buy the poverty-spec car (i.e. four-cylinder or smaller six-cylinder engines).

That’s definitely an S320 with the great M104.99x 3.2 inline 6 with 228hp. And not an S500 with the M119 5.0 V8 ( comes with 4.2 as well on the S420) there is also a 3.5 diesel S350 and last but not least a top dawg M120 6.0 V12 with 403hp on 1st year models but got detuned to 389 on the later years. This engine powers the clk gtr, pagani Zonda and every paganis made to date basically use the same V12 from merc with added turbo chargers ofcourse.

I would guess that the fuel injectors need replacing. I have a 93 400 SEL that won't stay running and I've changed the fuel pump and filter already. I feel pretty certain that the injectors are bad.

This W140 is in fact S320 (3.2 M104) with S500 badge on trunk :P Flashing lights means low battery :)
