Before they ever sent a man to space, a scientist attached his Pobeda watch to the collar of a dog who was used during test flights. Making the Pobeda the first watch in space.

Thank you SO much for making this video. It is honestly the best Poljot video on youtube! I'm going to try to track down one of these now!

You are a lucky man if you can find one and afford one. Sadly had to give back the watch to my ex because as I said it was her grandfathers but I do miss it badly! Excellent aesthetics and beautiful in every way in person to look at. Glad you enjoyed the video. If you find one in good nick do enjoy it and take good care of it

Juri Gagarin was the first man in space -that correct, but he didnt go at open space . And Mr. Leonov was the first man at open space , above rewiev of his wtch.

The first watch in space was actually a Pobeda strapped on to a Soviet dog

Well Dragos, that is one goodlooking Poljot. Fantastic dial. I love the Poljot mechanical alarm watches, and Strela Chronographs. My father was also given a Poljot Masonic watch from one of his masonic lodge brothers years ago. Very reliable, sturdy watch has lasted to this day.
@dragossion7 жыл бұрын
Now there's a watch with a story to it. Does your father have the one with the simple stick hands or cathedral style hands? Anyways it's a looker. Enjoy it and hold on to it. Sentimental value is the best type of value to a watch. Can you speak to your masonic friends now pretty please to up the views and subscribers to my videos? ;))
@neuromancerXL7 жыл бұрын
Thicker Cathedral style that taper to a fine point (but the hour hand is not overly ornamental or skeletonized) both hands (hour/minute) have lume on them. Oh my father has held onto it to this day, and yes it does have much sentimental value to him. I believe his friend also had the dial/movement encased in a different case, since it's solid 14k gold. I havent seen a solid gold case on another Masonic Poljot when I've looked at them. heh, I don't think any of of his masonic brothers watch youtube, but maybe I'll ask a friend who has quite a subscriber base on twitter to tweet your youtube channel out cheers

Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyayev both wore their Strela underneath the Berkut spacesuit, on Gemini IV both astronauts, Ed White & Jim McDivitt, wore 2 Speedmaster chronographs which were exposed to open space due to the open cockpit layout of the two men capsule... so on Gemini IV 4 Speedmasters were exposed to outer space ! #MoonwatchUniverse

Nice review, dude ;) I have one as well. With a different dial, bet also cal 3017. You said you haven't seen many in this good of a condition. It is actually in a pretty good condition. But the one I have is 5x fresher. I've seen many in terrible condition. One thing though is that for my, I think, the seconds hand has been changed. The new ones are a complete parody though haha

Kevin Shinduke thank you for commening Kevin! It's watches like these rich in history and heritage which deserve more attention in my opinion. The internet is full of submariners, speedmasters and skx's and many models drown in their own anonimity. It's a shame. Stick around hopefully I will bring you guys more content soon and as always not without it's history

Excellent video! Similar to the Seagull 1963 in its chronograph design, 19 jewel, Venus 150 Column wheel based. I believe it was the Poljot 3017 (Strela) which was indeed first in space. Leonov is another Russian childhood hero for me.

6:52 look carefully Edward White was wearing 2 Omega Speedmaster chronographs, one on Houston time, one on mission time to time the spacewalk. On Gemini IV, both Ed White and Jim McDivitt each wore 2 Speedmasters, so on Gemini IV there were 4 Speedmaster chronographs exposed to open outer space ! #MoonwatchUniverse

+Sion Dragos I'm curious about your opinion of the modern Strela watches made by maktime. At the moment I'm interested, but I have yet to personally handle one. I would prefer a vintage one, of course, but it would cool to have a new one as well
@dragossion8 жыл бұрын
+William Edwardovich Sadly I have not handled one myself. My opinion is based on reading and watching videos about the watches they produce. Personally I loved what they were trying to do. When you looked at their manufacuturing methods it's almost like Rolex in the way they built their cases, and even did the casting of the raw material for their cases. As I understand now they are in a big financial problem and I honestly hope they do recover. The watch industry needs these new companies and new players on the market. I mean they did a moonphase and they were even trying to design their own movemets before they ran out of money. I think these guys deserved more credit and better sales
