I used mine this past weekend. I had a couple of images that were way out of focus. They were clearly operator error. The jpegs are definitely soft. But the final images are very sharp. Overall, I’m super happy with this camera.

I don't have mine yet, but on the original R5, I changed the picture style. I increased the sharpness strength by 1 and increased fineness also by 1. I reduced the contrast with 2 to have less clipping in the preview.

Can you please maybe check, if your Viewfinder has also not the same output as the lcd display? I see in my viewfinder (most time if i do underexpose) a green tint in de shadows or highlights. Do not effect the picture on lcd or lightroom (raw)

Im also noticing a slight “lowered exposure” in the VF when I’m composing the shot, but when I take the photo and play it back it looks much brighter! I kinda like that because I underexpose capture and makes showing clients a brighter/poppy image but there is def a difference.

On my R6 mark 2 jpeg was soft and I turned off noise reduction and now is perfect , maybe that is the issue with the R5 mark 2 , mine is coming this week

One of the best review in KZbin if not the best and clear to the point. How do you compare the R5MKII with the R6MKII? In other comparison you did between R5 and R6MKII, I downloaded the images and scaled R5's images to 24mpx and the R6 where sharper... How about the skin color rendition between the R5MKII and R6MKII?

hey Carlos! Thanks! 25,000 images in i'm loving the camera. I have been preferring the R5 and colors over the R6 II for a while now. Like you said it has better skin color retention. I'm guessing due to the resolution. So far, The R5 II looks pretty identical to the OG when it comes to colors. The biggest benefits for me have been a smarter AF system and the electronic shutter. I've already listed my OG R5 s for sale and will finish out the year with two R5 MK II.

Excellent review. Thanks! Appreciate the no nonsense approach. Happy with my R5 but I expect I'll switch to the Mark II at some point. Don't know what is causing the humming sound but I do know that you can't really turn IBIS off since the sensor is free floating. Off means that it isn't trying to compensate for camera movement. It still has to hold the sensor steady.

I'd say the biggest features are the AF, on-off switch, and Electronic shutter @ 14 bit. If you don't need those then you're probably gonna be just as happy with the OG R5. I don't hear the noise unless I put my ear to it. I was just curious if it was affecting the battery life. The new battery seems to hold up better. I have a few more of those on the way.

My RF85mm F1.2 is super fast to focus with my F5 - I use it for sport. It focusses very fast and accurate. And, the iq is amazingly good @ f1.2. Thus, i use it @ f1.2 for close sports and have also won a competition with it,

That's awesome. I love that lens. I have rented it a couple of times and loved it. I end up alway using the GFX 100 II with the 80mm so it's hard to add another 85mm in the mix.

Hi. Thanks for your video. I loved your wedding pictures. Your thoughts on the r5ii were informative. I’ve got a gripe which is not your fault and out of your control, which is the American bias on you tube videos in the English language. I expect it is to do with the way the algorithm arranges these things. I watched your video after searching “Canon R5 mark II back orders”. There are no relevant results. Most preorders m my country remain unfulfilled so I am jealous that you have your hands on yours. I am jumping from a 5d mark three so this will be my first mirrorless camera. I’m excited to try it!

I had 5 studios, in and around Chicago, we used to shoot 1000 weddings a year, so I enjoy hearing about how this camera performs in that environment. Retired now. Question, where can I find some batteries for my R5MII, you must have found a source, or probably still on your pre MarkII batteries.

Great video! Looking forward to hearing more about your testing of the R5ii. That narrative issue is strange. Out of interest, I have found Lightroom Classic to be pretty quick for culling when using embedded previews and no longer need to use fast raw viewer or photo mechanic. Do you still find Narrative faster than lightroom?

Narrative has a bunch of added tools. It has a face zoom panel on the right and color codes everything. Works a lot faster and I don't have to make any smart previews. Great video! Did you notice that the VF (before capture) displays a slightly lowered exposure then is displayed on playback? I even set the manual VF brightness and the pre-capture display is significantly darker than image review. Ps- I actually kinda like it, because I slightly under expose my shots, and now for client review it’s a little brighter/poppy. Just something I noticed.

This is nitpicking, but if I take the lenses off and just have the bodies (camera is off), and tilt them back and forth, it feels like one of my sensors is moving around inside more than the other. Can you try that? Is it normal?
