My midwife told me 5 days in bed, 5 days around the bed and 5 days around the house. It was so hard after an easy home birth but my overall recovery was so much faster. I always tell new expectant mothers that it’s not as relaxing as it sounds but your baby needs you to recover and birth is hard…even if it was an easy delivery.

I was told by my great aunt that her mother always recommended 2 weeks in bed eating only tea and toast. She had 5 home births in the early 1900’s. She lived into her 90’s and all her offspring were healthy and they all lived into their 90’s. There is great wisdom in the old ways, especially regarding childbirth.

There are NO WORDS to describe how happy this post made me! Daniel is precious, the kids WITH HIM is priceless (Jude!!!!), and as always, dearest Lisa, your real front and day-in-the-life recordings is what we in the mutual real world appreciate! I am SO glad you are taking it slow, doing skin to skin a ton, and as someone else who had a bad latch (AND, I gave up too quickly and STILL have guilt!) it's nice to see a POSITIVE outcome via good ole' determination and grit! Sending LOTS of love!!! xoxo

Back when my children were born, we spent a week in the hospital after delivery. Considering the cost of just walking into a hospital these days, we don't do that anymore! We were cautioned to take it easy for a month or so and could not drive for 4-6 weeks. My sister-in-law (mother of four) told me, "Labor is well named. You're tired and need to rest." YES! Daniel is adorable! I love how the older children are with him. The girls truly are your little helpers.

I’m glad to hear that your nursing is less painful. I live near Toronto Canada I am a nurse and have worked in the maturity unit for 45years and have been a lactation consultant for 25 of those years. I love that you are spending so much time doing skin to skin and nursing on demand “baby’s demand of course “ when I have worked with newborns who have trouble latching I get mom to lie on her back ( not necessarily flat, using a small pillow ) when the baby brings his mouth over the breast he opens his mouth wide to latch and his tongue will drop down over the underside of the breast, this could be a little more difficult for Daniel if he has a tongue tie. In regard to the tongue tie something to consider as well is that sometimes if a baby figures out how to nurse in the first weeks/ months often when his milk requirements are increasing as he is growing he may have more difficulty sucking efficiently to get an adequate amount each feeding, often I’ve seen this at around 5 months of age Just a thought, something to be aware of for your consideration. Tongue ties are generally easier to clip as a newborn before the “tie/tissue” thickens and gets more nerve endings institu. I don’t mean to offend, hopefully just sharing from some of my experiences. 😊

My midwife orders are exactly the same. She always reminds my husband “she’s going to feel great like she can do it all and have all this energy, but do not let her do anything but nurse and sleep” haha. I love keeping up with your sister too. That’s the brand of after birth that comes in my birthing kit that we order in case of emergency and the hubby has to start things up for me. I am just now entering my second tri (this pregnancy was a surprise and our fifth. Third homebirth) so enjoying these videos!!

Fay K. It’s just limiting the walking around and being active right away because our bodies are still healing. The more you walk around the more chances of bleeding. It goes by fast 😁 also it can vary for each mama. For me with my last I had to do more bed rest PP because I had a lot of bleeding. Birth was amazing but my uterus was just being stubborn. Lol

Lisa, I’m so glad your experiences with tongue tie have been pretty good. I would guess that breastfeeding multiple children and having a good milk supply probably helped a lot. As a lactation consultant, I would highly recommend that most moms follow up with lactation support sooner rather than later to evaluate and help manage issues like tongue tie. Congratulations again on your sweet baby boy.

Laid back nursing really made a difference for me nursing my son. He also had a small tounge tie, and it was truly painfull when nursing him. After i got into the laid back nursing, it was just so much more natural than all these 'right' positions, different nurses taught me. Its beyond me why its not used more here in Denmark, but maybe it's more normal in other contries? And of course i'm not saying it's the right method for everyone. Blessings in Christ Jesus!

What a beautiful little newborn. Well, I wish I had been told about resting more after birth. I was completely caring for my family on the third day postpartum, three older kids and a newborn. My husband went back to work. I felt fine and didn't think anything about it really but as an older person now I do have problems with bladder leakage which may have been prevented had I known to rest for 10-14 days. Now I will share this information with my grown daughters so they will get the rest they need. Lovely video, congratulations on your new baby :)

I had my fourth baby November 2018 ( so she is almost a year) I had a C-section with her and I have to say my cramping was more painful than my C-section. It was horrible! Breastfeeding was always very- VERY painful and difficult with all of my babies, so I chose just to strictly pump.
