The amount of some components was decreased, such as sugar (which caramelized the crust too much) and butter (which made the pie heavy to digest). The number of eggs was increased to give more softness to the dough. Other versions were introduced to make this cake more mouth-watering, digestible and suitable for young and old alike. Today we can enjoy countless types of plumcakes, from yogurt cake, to chocolate variegated cake, to coffee variegated cake, to cake filled with various creams, to a savory variant.
