Hi guys! Join me as I explore my first week in the UK, from room tour to socialising at multiple freshers events like boat tours, and club fairs.
I stayed in a triple room with my friends because we're all from the same college and we got into the same uni! My bed is next to the window, and one day I woke up to find it was snowing. It felt like I was in a movie; the view was so beautiful, and I couldn't believe I was actually seeing snow right in front of my eyes. For the rent, the whole room costs us £1560 = RM9360 per month. Yep, London made me broke.
Our uni arranged a lot of events for the freshers. I went to the club fair and decided to join a few societies. I also came across new societies which I hadn't heard of before, like the chocolate society. 😆 There's also a Korean Entertainment Society if you're into K-pop. The society that I definitely joined is the Malaysian society, and the membership cost me £4. Going overseas also means getting to know other cultures. I joined Asian fresher events and got to know some friends from Korea, China, and Indonesia. My friend from China even told me she wants to try Malaysian durian! 🤣 Another society I joined is the Thai society, which cost me £5. We had a free dinner at a Thai restaurant, and I met James, the Thai actor. OMG, I breathed the same air as James. 🤩 I'm so happy that I can make new friends from Thailand because being half Thai, I rarely had Thai friends in school last time.
The food here? It made me miss Malaysia so much in the first week because their food is so plain, tawar. I think they didn't put a lot of spice or seasoning. They served ayam percik but called it lemongrass chicken. Okay, that one is really sedap. 🥰 One thing I'm glad about is the portion size; it's very big for all dinners, brunches, and breakfasts! BUT I'M STILL HUNGRY, GUYS! The weather here is below 10 degrees, which makes me want to eat all the time because all the energy is used up to produce heat and keep my body warm. Wherever I go here, at any social events, there will be alcohol. ALCOHOL IS EVERYWHERE, GUYS! When I went on the boat tour, they gave me a token to get free drinks, but I just got apple juice. 🤣 The boat tour was so cool; I got to see Big Ben, the London Eye, the Shard, Tower Bridge, and London Bridge, which I said looks like Jambatan Tanah Merah only. 😅 I made a lot of friends there; it was so fun!
