Have you tried the plant kindness activity? You place two plants across the room from each other the children tell the plant something negative and to the other plant something positive and the plants start showing how that affects them.

Haro Well you just don’t take care of the other, i do this with the kids i babysit. It teaches them the affect of negativity and they’ve become more kind to each other.

I’m glad you had a great first week of school with your students, especially as a first year teacher. I’m sure you were extremely nervous meeting the kids, the parents, and of course starting the school year. Your classroom looks awesome. I’ve only seen a few of your videos as I am a fairly new subscriber, but I can tell that you would be a wonderful teacher Kim and I wish I had you as a teacher when I was in school. I’m looking forward to watching the videos you upload as the school year goes on, as well as watching more of the videos you have already uploaded.

I am glad you are aware of the socioeconomic differences your students will see in the future. I went to title 1 schools were two thirds were on free and reduced lunch, but my high school was right next to a neighborhood full of million dollar plus homes. Going from seeing classmates in old mobiles and RVs to classmates who’s parents are in the market for a private plane was a huge culture shock Inwas definitely not prepared for. I ended up not even participating in a group project once because the teacher announced groups and then had as meet in the library in the second week of school, and it was full of students I was afraid would judge me so I just sat at a table alone and read.

Glad that your room was able to be like that of a seasoned teacher. The first year can be rough and classroom environment is important. Don't listen to the critics. It takes a village to build a classroom worth being in. Happy 1st week!

Here in NJ they don't teach cursive at schools anymore. (That's what I've been told by other moms. My son just started kinder so not sure how true this is.)
@ej30165 жыл бұрын
I’m in Ontario, Canada about 2 hrs from Toronto and I’ve heard that as of this September cursive will no longer be taught - what a shame - it’s about more than “joined up writing” - it’s one of the big skills that kids learn early on - without cursive how will there be “signatures” - I was in grade 4 back in the late 1960’s so don’t always understand choices school boards are making 🤔

I want to double major in Secondary Education & Teaching, and Biology.. do you know any colleges I should look into for this?
@Haileyb6135 жыл бұрын
I just happened to see your comment, but I would recommend looking into liberal arts colleges! It's much easier to double major, especially between subject areas that aren't necessarily part of the same "college." At big state schools, sometimes there are restrictions, like both your majors must be within the college of fine arts, or the college of humanities, etc. That's less likely to be true at a liberal arts college, and you're more likely to be surrounded by other people who are double majors as well. I went to Denison University and knew only a handful of people who only had one major!

I just started watching your videos and you seem so nice and positive! I love reading and like giving book recommendations, if you want a good cultural book, check out This is How we Do It by Matt LaMothe. It has great illustrations and descriptions about life in other countries, a kid's daily life. So good! I loved looking through it. I work at a place with books and know some of the popular ones kids like. A lot of them love the Princess Black series by Shannon Hale and Mercy Watson by Kate Dicamillo. Do you have a PO Box? Might be able to get some free ones if they get rid of any! Definitely good to have a variety when there are kids at different reading levels. The Kratt Brothers also have a series called Wild Kratts in books the non-fiction readers. Hope the school year is going well!
