First WILD CAMP of the year - Wild Camping in the Lake District UK

Hello folks and welcome back to the Lake District! This week we're off on our first wild camp of the year. Wild camping in the Lake District offers a great opportunity to wake up on the fells ready for a day of hiking, and that's just what we did. We took a relatively short walk from Grasmere before setting up our wild camp for a night out under the stars. It was a chilly one, but we were up bright and early the next day to head out for a ramble to Sergeant Man.
Join us as we dust off the tent, get out the sleeping bags and go wild camping in the Lake District! A good sleep mat with a good r value then a decent sleeping bag team those up with some thermal base layers have your down jacket if it's really cold I use down pants over my thermals and down booties when it's in the minus temps.also try putting a hot hands hand warmer inside your sleeping bag.

Hi Craig, thank you for these ideas, sounds like you have an excellent system going on here that I can learn from! I've always slept in thermals but I think taking the downs jacket, even if it's just for the night is an excellent shout, as is the hot hands warmers. Will have a hunt for some!

Eggs in the tent. 😝 Otherwise, lovely! I find that bringing a hot water bottle to bed up against your hip/thigh is a great way to stay warm - plus if it's really cold it keeps your water from freezing. Wonderful drone shots!

Good fun Betty. What was the tent like after all that egg your mate ate. I dread to think - ha ha. What a glorious morning though. The light as you headed for the tops was superb although up above it looked threatening - but it remained alright. Result! Fantastic views and stroll down. Good going. Mark

Hello. Not been to Lake District for years now. I did the easy route up Scarfel Pike then. I over-nighted there and when i woke early the sun was up. The views are stunning over the lakes. Yes it was a cold night but i had hand warmers and spread them inside my sleeping bag that kept me warmer.. Regards Mick...

I love the courage and bravery it takes to simply head off into the wilderness to set up camp miles away from civilization! Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to explore the lake district before but those drone shots have convinced be I need to head there as soon as I can! I always love that first moment when you open the tent flap in the morning... you never know quite what you are going to be greeted with. Unfortunately I am can relate all too well to being a cold camper... it seems its a cross some of us just have to bear! I think the best thing for me has been to get a really good roll mat, but even that doesn't always keep the cold at bay. So perhaps a to keep smiling is my best advice (it's the only thing that seems to help me 😂

A fellow cold camper 😊 We could start a club! I sympathise I really do, I think my blood just runs cold! Yes a smile is excellent advice, sometimes I just to submit to the inevitable chilly toes and look forward to that moment in the morning, like you said, when you first open the tent flap, makes it worth it! @@CraigDroneAdventures Ah awesome, I’ve never managed to get up Ben Nevis, every time I’m in Fort William either the weather isn’t playing ball or I’m just passing through. Sure you’ll have a cracking time, is this after the Weather Highland Way or a separate trip? I’m planning on getting out with the bike and tent again over summer but still undecided exactly where to head.
