I started CF in january last year because of your videos. Started at 250lbs (male 5'9"), got down to 242, but I packed muscle on at the same time. Got to get my diet in check, but otherwise I'm happy I can do some stuff that I couldn't anymore or never thought I could do. Thank you for showing that CF is fun and not always about competitions and machismo :)

I want to start off by saying that I loved that you guys did this. As someone that is close to 300lbs this video was great. I think you should do it again but this time do it with some people at are over weight and do CrossFit already or are scared to start. You guys touch a lot of people with your videos and I think showing people that it’s ok to start is a big deal.

I'm weighing in right around 408, and go to CrossFit 3 days a week. I'm 5'11" and 41 years old. Last year I went for several months, but twisted my ankle and then just kept aggravating it. So I stopped. I had gotten to 370, but after I fell off I went all the way back up to 430 lbs. I've always modified everything. This time around, I'm keeping everything in line. No split jerks basically. I'm also not jumping. I can box jump on a 12" box, but it tore my knees up. If you're starting out, understand that every single movement can be modified to work for you. I love going. One day, my cardio will catch up to my strength, and I'll be good at this.

You guys are awesome! Thank you for respecting and sharing the truth about Crossfit at 300 lbs. As a 300lb woman who used to do Crossfit ( I miss it a ton) I loved the mobility difference a few months made. TBH I didn't loose much weight but I went from not able to finish this workout my 1st day, to finishing it with similar modifications in 14:23 min. I even completed a quarter murph! If your interested in helping those intimidated joining Crossfit because of size do more videos like this with actual 300lb people starting Crossfit and have been in Crossfit for a while! I'm grateful how well done and respectful this video is. Thank you!

This is a fantastic way to demonstrate the experience. The workout, however, would be overwheming for a large-body athlete. As Athena Perez says, the goal is to have them want to come back tomorrow. Coaching Large Body Athletes requires a new level of scaling. Most large athletes can't see their feet, which makes many CF movements very scary. They can't / won't sit on a rower. (Can the rower support their weight?) Many morbidly obese people have an incredible fear of falling and not being able to get up off the ground. A coach cannot simply "give them a hand" to get them off the ground. But there are awesome techniques that can help large athletes feel safe and not embarrassed. If anyone is working with severely overweight athletes, I highly recommend Athena Perez' "Working With Large Body Athletes" seminar - it literally was mind blowing.

I love that you did this! I weighed 119 and went to the gym 6 days a week. When I got pregnant I gained 110 lbs. I was surprised how difficult it was to go to the gym and not be able to do any of what I used to do. It was so frustrating. I also had trainers who didn’t understand I couldn’t go at the same pace of others half my weight and needed to initially start at my pace. Thank you again for doing this!! Btw I love that scale for pull ups and will definitely be using that.

I started my journey 12 years ago at 315. It was intimidating as hell, but I knew I had to do it. Within 2 years, I was down to 210. Since then, I've gotten way stronger, got my L1, and fitness is part of my daily life. This was an interesting video. I know it gives you guys some perspective. Love this. It is so scary going to the gym being overweight. Thinking everyone is judging you. That thought quickly goes away when you go to a Crossfit gym. There will be things you are better at than someone else and then there are some things you wont be good at and that's ok.

Thank you for putting this out there. I started CrossFit last March at 49 weighing 315 and walking into the box that first time is one of the hardest things I've ever done. I'm now 50 and down to 250. The interesting thing is that I was never chasing a number or goal weight but just wanted to feel better. It's been life-changing.

I loved Dallin's view of it. Don't be intimidated by people like him. That's his job. Imagine him putting in a full workday at the gym and then going to your job (whatever it may be) everyday and doing an extra hour there just to better himself. That's hella impressive. Great outlook!

I love CrossFit even being a big guy ! I started out CrossFit 5 years ago and was about 425lbs . I wasn’t able to do a lot of things burpees for 1 . I’ve lost about 70 lbs and gain here and there then lose it but yeah I like to eat that’s the hardest part , but I can say I hate burpees but if the workout says 50 or a 100 burpees during a workout I’ll do them of course complaining lol . I’ve gotten stronger in all my lifts . I love the assault bike , I bike 30 cals in 25 seconds so CrossFit has done great . I just saw this video and loved it I always tell people it’s hard being a big boy doing CrossFit but I love it and will never quit . Keep up the good work guys !!

Best vid ever. This is exactly why I was intimidated to go to a CrossFit gym. But, when I walked into a CF gym, CrossFit Fort Vancouver, specifically. It was just after you guys did a vid from there, about 2 years ago now. It was on a weekend and I knew they didn’t have any classes going on so I drove through. I was hoping you guys might still be there but you had already left, I thought I saw Justin, he was putting away some gear. I ended up going back and poked my head in to see if it really was him and it was. Joey was the first person I talked to, Justin was there and he was so humble, just like I’ve seen when I’ve watched him online. He didn’t even bring up the fact he was the champ. Long story short he hooked me up with Adam, and Adam got me into a class and they did exactly what you guys said, you can modify whatever you need. I’ve been away from the gym for too long, but I’ll be back as soon as possible. Thanks for making this vid for us over 300lbs, it means a lot. Get into a gym and do what you can.

I only saw this video today. I'm 6'3" started and I started my CrossFit journey at 300 lbs, 5 months ago, and I've lost 40 lbs. I've been in the best shape of my life, I cant wait to hit my goal at 220-225 lbs, then I'll know I can do anythging. I run miles, lift moire then I have ever lifted, getting closer to those gymnastics movements that I have never been able to do. Life is better when you keep on improving your body.

Great Video. Im laughing cuz every WOD I do is over 300lbs body weight. I’m now three years into my CrossFit journey. When I walked into my box back in December of 2020 I was close to 370lbs. It was very intimidating. Needed bands wrapped around a rig to do a sit up, couldn’t get anywhere near parallel on my squats ect. Today I’m down to 315lbs, actually finishing WOD’s before getting time capped and even just PR’ed my front squat hitting 250lbs right below parallel. Gonna try the WOD this week.

Used to crossfit while pretty fat, left and did strongman and powerlifting, got fatter, tried to go back to crossfit and I definitely cannot anymore, felt like I didn't deserve to be there. I look at the workouts and I know I can't do the rep count or the movements. I would recommend being in somewhat good shape before starting.

I'm 6'3" and between 295-300 and have been that size most of my life. I'm not built for CF in part due to so many injuries from my career. It's just different between a smaller person packing on weight and someone who has been large their whole life, especially if their fat ratio is so high with little lean body mass.

I’ve never done CF, I used to be a professional rugby player and ran 100m on grass in 10.8 seconds, weighing 240lbs or 108kg and 12-14% body fat. Retired injured and ballooned to 310lbs or 140kg, at 6ft 4” tall, and stepping back in a gym after 12 years has been hell. Forget what I used to do, it’s irrelevant. My joints hurt and swell and I’m doing normal weight lifting and elliptical, or walking cardio. Felt embarrassed for weeks and didn’t talk to anyone. 4 months I’m down to 260lbs and fat has halved but it doesn’t feel easier. Seeing how the extra weight affects each guy put it in perspective more, as it’s gradual for me. 240lbs, or 108kg is my goal for September and then a very gradual drop to 227lbs or 103kg and then I hope I can run again and be able to train more CF style for my health more than anything. Apologies for the long winded life report, never actually looked at the numbers since starting training again.

Okay now let’s see the trainer do that workout at 300lb with the access weight hanging down in the front. I’ve never seen someone at 300lb with all their weight on their back. But doing sit ups laying down, push ups or rowing with all that fat hanging down in front is a whole other ballgame. Let’s see him do his scaling then. (He could use an Athena seminar)

Okay so he said “obviously this isn’t exactly what it’s like to be 300lbs” Im gonna be the first one to tell you, yes it is. If you have never worked out before and you want to start your fitness journey and you’ve never done a squat, the odds of you falling on your ass because your knees can’t hold the weight are extremely high. These guys can pack on as much weight as they want they will never understand what it’s like to pack on 300lbs of pure fat and workout with it unless they really do so.

@ I am currently in the process of FIT HIIT Training for the DPD, which specializes in all types of calisthenics. I currently stand at 300lbs, I have been doing this for 3 weeks now, when I first started I couldn’t do a single pushup, I couldn’t run more than 20 meters, I wasn’t able to do squats, and my knees couldn’t support sprints. So yea when he said, 'Obviously, this isn't what it feels like to be 300 lbs,' I initially thought he was referring to the physical strain of the workouts being exacerbated by his weight. However, now I realize that he was probably alluding to a deeper, more nuanced experience of being significantly overweight.
